Chinas banana market showed steady growth, rising from 8.3 million tonnes in 2007 to
12.9 million tonnes in 2013. From 2007 to 2013, it expanded with a CAGR of 7.5%. In
value terms, it reached 12.5 billion USD in 2013, with a CAGR of 23.2%.
In 2013, the Philippines, with 278.1 million USD, were the main banana supplier into
China. It was distantly followed by Thailand (22.2 million USD), Ecuador (21.3 million
USD), and Myanmar (7.2 million USD), together making up 98% of total imports.
While Ecuador significantly strengthened its position in the global import structure, the
Philippines saw its share reduced from 94% in 2007 to 83% in 2013. Shares of the other
countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
