I. HEALTH OFFICE DISCUSSION:
Heiden opened the discussion with current State statute is at least one full time
nurse for districts with over 1000 enrollment. There is a possible change to a
one nurse to 750 students currently
being discussed at the capital. MN Dept
of Education also recommends the one
to 750 ratio. Heiden also was wondering about the 20% of time that the health
aide needs to be supervised. With the
new building, she was wondering how
this would be addressed. Fall brought
up that we actually exceed the time
needed according to State statute. Champa
had also researched the item. The superintendent said she talked with the
State, and the 20% is actually a guideline and not a statute. Bailey questioned
how field trips would work if a nurse
needed to go along.
Principals said that as long as someone were trained that could go along,
that would work. It wouldnt have to be
the nurse. The elementary principal reported that they are working on ways to
cover lunch time in the health offices.
