Between the door and the driver's seat, no mechanical components may be installed other than side
bars of the rollcage.
However, the impact absorbing structure, the knee pad and the water-supply bottles are not
considered as mechanical components.

car's weight must be 1,500kg. The car shall collide head-on (full overlap) by at a velocity of
12metre/sec.
3) Dynamic crash test
A unit of crushable structure on a trolley is subjected to a dynamic crash test. A certification with a
signature of the person in charge of the testing laboratory must be issued and its copy must be
submitted to JAF.
It is not necessary to present a copy of the verification every year unless the vehicle type and its
design remain the same.
12.8) Lateral protection structure
1) In order to absorb impact, inside the door of driver's side should be either filled with
non-flammable shock absorbing material and/or made up of crushable structure except when a
rollcage structure admitted by Art.258.15.15.1 of the Appendix J(Drawing 258-4) is constructed. In
that exceptional case it is recommended to perform certain measures such as increasing the
thickness of the door outer panel.
2) If the door of the driver's side remains the same as that of the original vehicle, original energy
absorbing structure located inside of the door may not be removed and the additional bar of which
material and dimensions are the same as those of the rollbar specified by the prescriptions of
Art.253.8.2.2.5.2 of the Appendix J must be mounted.
3) Furthermore, if the material of the door was changed, the door bar specified in Art.253.8.2.2.5.2 of
the Appendix J must be added.
However, if the door bar is not comprised of JAF/FIA rollcage, it is not obligatory to comply with
above 2) and the relevant prescriptions.
4) It is permitted to install an impact absorbing device between the door of driver's side and the
rollcage.
