Overview
1. About IEnMP
The U.S. Council for Energy-Efficient Manufacturing (U.S. CEEM) is positioning the U.S. industry as a
global leader in energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions reduction, and guides the
development of Superior Energy Performance (SEP). As part of this effort, the Institute for Energy
Management Professionals (IEnMP) was created. IEnMP is a non-profit organization, funded by the
Department of Energy, existing to provide certifications to individuals in support of the SEP initiative.
The certifications offered by IEnMP encompass the following areas:

Certified Practitioner in Energy Management Systems (CP EnMS) offered in both the industrial
and commercial sectors.
SEP Performance Verifier
SEP Lead Auditor

2. Purpose
The purpose of the Certified Practitioner in Energy Management Systems credential is to assure that
specialists have the skills, knowledge and performance capability to assist and evaluate companies in
meeting the requirements of ISO 50001 applied to energy management. Specifically, an individual
certified as CP EnMS:

Works with an organization to establish and/or maintain an energy management system that
meets the requirements of ISO 50001.
Works with an organization to establish an energy management system that meets ANSI MSE
50021.
Works with the organization to integrate ISO 50001 with their existing management systems.

Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of energy
management systems. As such, IEnMP considered various inputs to define
the industrial sector until ISO 50003 is published. These documents
include: ANSI/MSE 50028, SEP Certification Protocol, the draft ISO/DIS
50003, and the requirements for ISO 50001 Auditor certification.
Currently, the IEnMP definition for the industrial sector encompass the
