--1.a) What is the difference between the X -chart and the R-chart? Why would
someone want to use both?
b) International Pickle Company (IPC) makes 16 liters jars of pickles for sale. As
company policy, a jar is considered unacceptable if the weight is more than 0.1
liters greater or less than this amount. IPC took 20 samples of five jars from the
production line when the process was known to be in control. The average weight
for the 100 jars was 16.003 liters and average range for the 20 samples was 0.093
liters
i) Compute the upper and lower limits for a three sigma X & R charts
ii) Suppose IPC now samples five jars from the production line. The net weights
of these jars are 16.018, 15.870, 16.115 and 16.005 liters. Determine whether or
not the process is under control. If not, specify what the problem is and how you
determined this.

Explain Double sampling plans and compare it with single sampling plan with
respect to inspection cost, producer risk and consumer risk.
A company supplies toys to customer in lots of 10000. The company and
customer have agreed on AQL of 0.01 and LTPD of 0.03. The customer has
suggested that the following procedure be used to determine whether or not it will
accept a shipment 20 toys will be sampled. If 1 or fewer toys are defective, it will
accept the shipment. If 2 or more are defective, it will reject the shipment.
Compute the producers and customers risks by constructing the OC curve. [6+6]
