Statewide Survey Shows Majority Support Trade Promotion Authority as Path to Economic Growth and Job Creation Columbus, OH Main Street Growth & Opportunity Coalition-Ohio, a state chapter of the national civic advocacy organization dedicated to raising awareness about pro-growth policies, today released results of a statewide voter survey indicating bi-partisan support for renewing the president's authority to negotiate trade agreements and for reforming the business tax code this year. Key Trade Results One and a half-million Ohio jobs depend on foreign trade. With that in mind, 65.7% of respondents agree that ensuring the president's ability to negotiate trade agreements that expand the global marketplace for U.S. companies' goods and services would spur economic growth and job creation in Ohio and the entire country. Of those polled, only 22.9% disagree that there is a correlation between the president's ability to negotiate trade agreements with foreign markets and economic growth and job creation (11.3% of respondents were unsure or did not answer). The survey found that a 54.5% of Ohio residents agree that Congress should renew the president's authority to negotiate trade agreements with foreign markets to expand trade opportunities for U.S goods and services. An overwhelming majority of respondents, 83.7% believe it is important for leaders from both political parties to work together to renew the president's authority to negotiate trade agreements; 52% of those respondents stated a bipartisan effort is very important. Just 12.2% of respondents indicated that such an effort is not at all important (4.1% of respondents were unsure or did not respond to this question). Key Tax Reform Results The survey found that a commanding 91.7% of respondents think it is very or somewhat important to set American business tax rates to a level that enables businesses to be competitive with other nations selling the same goods and services. Nearly 55% of respondents support simplifying the tax rate by setting a standard 25% tax rate for all businesses. Only 25% of respondents do not support a simplified 25% tax rate, though 8.6% of those respondents do not strongly oppose such a plan (20% of respondents were unsure or did not answer the question). About the Survey The survey was conducted from May 13 to May 16 by Fallon Research & Communications, Inc., and included a total of 805 respondents with a margin of error of +/-3.45%. Interviews were conducted with voters on both landline and cell phones and were offered in both English and Spanish.
