Super Commando Dhruv

Origin
Dhruva was born to trapeze artists Shyam (father) and Radha (mother) in Jupiter
circus. He was brought up in the circus amongst circus artists and animals. He l
earnt various skills from circus artists and developed skills to talk to animals
and birds there.
Super Commando Dhruva comics series has all the ingredients of modern day pot bo
iler involving suspense, science fiction and Dhruva's agility and wisdom.
Plot Summery
The series started with the comics Pratishodh ki Jwala (fire of revenge), in whi
ch Dhruva's parents were killed by members of Globe (competing) circus. Dhruva v
owed to take revenge and used his wisdom and Martial Art skills to fight with ki
llers.
After the murder of his parents he was adopted by I.G. Rajan Mehra, an honest po

lice officer. Mrs. Rajni Mehra loves Dhruv as much as her own son while their da
ughter Shweta puts her life at risk to help Dhruv bhaiya.
Later in the series (in Khooni Khaandaan, Ateet and Jigsaw), it was revealed tha
t Dhurva has a family in France with Grandfather, Uncle, Aunt Marcell and a cous
in brother Luka. His father Shyam lost his memory thanks to Dhurva's Aunt. She a
long with her son tried to kill Dhruva. Her aunt's son Luka had told Dhruva that
his father was a murderer, accused of the murder of a police officer named, Lub
ek in France. Dhruva went to France and met Lubek's daughter Vera. She helped hi
m in his investigations which proved that his father was innocent.
His original family is in Paris. After this story he visited them later in the s
eries(in Spider).
Attributes
'Dhruva' in Sanskrit means 'axis', which indicates one who remains in his positi
on no matter what happens. The character has handsome looks and a muscular body,
but does not have extraordinary superpowers like other comic heros. He does, ho
wever, understand the language of animals and birds, a result of his upbringing
in a circus, and they help him from time to time by reporting crimes happening i
n Rajnagar, the fictional city where he lives with his parents.
Powers And Abilities
His only seemingly supernatural power is the ability to understand and talk to a
nimals and birds (even sea creatures). Although this can, to some extent, be att
ributed to his childhood spent in Circus with all sorts of animals. Other than t
his, he is an excellent hand to hand combatant, with experienced in all major ma
rtial arts. He is a perfect marksman too. He is also a first class detective and
a brilliant strategist who is able to follow minute clues to locate and counter
villains, much more powerful than him. He is observed frequently to face super
human villains and is able to win over them by his sheer intelligence. Apart fro
m this he also has the ability to breathe under water, thanks to his friend Dhan
anjay's gift.
One great strength of Dhruva, as shown in each of his stories, is his ability to
utilize objects around him as weapons to disarm or capture his enemies (he has
vowed not to kill). He shows the practical application of scientific knowledge a
nd inventive use of common items. In the multi-hero stories, it is always Dhruva
who plans a way to defeat the powerful villains by strategically using the powe
rs of other heroes.
Every night Dhruva patrols his city Rajnagar on his special motorbike to prevent
crime. Unlike many super heroes he does not use a disguise.
Dhruva is also the founder and head of "Commando Force" a three member team (Pet
er Massy, Renu & Karim Shah) which helps him fight crime in Rajnagar.
Recently, his sister Shweta, who is a good science student, has given Dhruva a p
atch-up. So Dhruva now has, apart from his 'Star Transmitter' (to contact his co
mmando headquarters), Boots which become roller skates with a little movement of
his toe. And above all 'Star Line' a metallic rope with which he can use to swi
ng from wall to wall much like 'Batman'. This rope is contained in the metallic
bracelets given by Shweta along with metallic star-shaped blades called 'Star Bl
ades'.
Family, friends and allies

Dhruva has been adopted by I.G. (Inspector General) Rajan and continues to live
with his foster parents. His foster sister, Shweta, although appearing to be a n
ormal girl, is in fact a heroine in her own right. She has saved Dhruva numerous
times under the guise of 'Chandika' (name of a Hindu goddess). He believes that
his sister is a very sweet and innocent girl with a weak heart and stomach and
has no idea about her identity as Chandika. Dhruva loves his sister very much an
d can go any ways to protect her. He has a long list of friends including Dhanan
jay, Samri, Vanputra, Barf Manav, Black Cat, Kirigi, Lori and his love Commander
Natasha, who is shown to have married and filed and won a decree of separation
from him in the latest Nagayan series. Dhruva and Natasha also have a son named
Rishi. It has been revealed in later Nagayan issues that separation was a ploy,
to allow the Commander to penetrate her father's home. According to the latest i
ssue, the ploy has been busted and she is in captivity of her father.
He has his own syndicate called Commando Force which helps him to fight crime.
He has had many adventures with Nagraj. These pairings lead to events similar to
the Batman - Superman pairings in the DC Universe.
Controversy
Many Dhruva fans feel that new comics are not up to the standard of his older co
mics by Anupam Sinha. They whole heartedly point out that there is too much use
of fairy tale in his recent comics written by Jolly Sinha, others argue that sto
ries them selves are not as powerful and deep as they use to be. Although the ad
ditions to his costume are welcome, as Dhruv himself points out, "In this age of
increasing crime and smarter criminals, you have to move on too." Still, many a
re correct in criticizing the recent magic-myth effusion into Raj Comics for its
decline and also that of Dhruv, who has always been a normal person who fought
normal criminals. Too many magical creatures has spoilt the legacy of Dhruva com
ics.
The quality of drawing is also degraded, specially with the inking of Vinod. It
is far from what it used to be in "Udantashtari ke Bandhak" or "Grand Master Rob
o", where Anupam Sinha did great job with not just the story but drawing also. M
ost readers recommend to bring Manu, Lalit or Digwal for the inking in Dhruva co
mics to make it a world class comics.
Another common suggestion is to release Dhruva comics in English also. That woul
d popularize these comics among international readers also.
Enemies
His arch rivals are
Grand Master Robo - Grand Master Robo is a villain of Super Commando Dhruva comi
cs. He is the supreme boss of a terrorist syndicate network operating world-wide
. He confronted Dhruva many times but he lost every time. However, Dhruva always
failed to catch him as he always succeeded in escaping. Originally he was a gan
gster called Robert Sheen. Another gangster called L Salvano tried to kill him b
y bombs but he survived as Doctor Schilder saved him. Another doctor Marian Cole
was taking care of Sheen because he liked her. Doctor Schilder loved Marian but
decided to ask her to marry Sheen so that she could prevent him from becoming a
criminal. However, the first thing Sheen did after marriage was the brutal murd
er of Salvano. He entered the world of Crime but took great care not to let Mari
an know about this. When Marian came to know about this she decided to leave him
. She left his house when she was pregnant. She began living with her mother. Th
ere she gave birth to a baby girl called Natasha. Sheen wanted to punish Marian
for jilting him but he loved her very much and could not kill her. Thus, he secr
etly kidnapped baby Natasha. Many years later, he became the boss of a big terro
rist syndicate and named himself as Grand Master Robo. He got Natasha trained in

various fighting skills and made her the commander of his army. When Natasha me
t Dhruva, she fell in love with him and abandoned the world of crime. Few years
later, Dhruva succeeded in arresting Robo but could not get him punished as ther
e was no evidence or witness against him. Thus, Robo was acquitted. A terrorist
group gave Robo, a contract to kill a British diplomat who was visiting India. R
obo bombed the car of that diplomat, only to find an injured Marian, riding with
that diplomat inside. Marian had taken a lift in the car. First time, he became
a victim of terrorism. He then decided to surrender to police. By co-incidence,
Doctor Schilder was in Raj Nagar. Robo brought Marian to Schilder. Meanwhile, h
is daughter was facing harassment from corrupt police officers for being a terro
rist's daughter and she had decided to return to his father. She did not let him
surrender and went to the world of crime along with her father.

s. Chandkaal is a real monster of a criminal. Has close resemblance to devil. He
is determined to promote the forces of darkness with his demonic powers and sch
eming brain which is fit to be called Devil's workshop. He carries a stick as if
to drive away light. Looks evil through and through. He claims to be the last s
urvivor of demon race on earth and intends to make earth, a world which would be
ruled by demons.

Mahamanav- Mahamanav represents the next race of humans. His origin is not very
clear but it is known that he grew in southern hemisphere and because of longer
days and nights and some other factors, his evolution was faster. He quickly gre
w past homo sapiens and developed many superhuman abilities in course of his evo
lution. In an unfortunate accident, he got buried deep under ice in Antarctica,
where he remained buried in hibernation until some scientists drilling the area
around supposedly woke him up. After resurrection, his efforts are solely in the
direction of recreating the conditions that would help all humans evolve to his
level; even at the cost of life of each and everyone on the planet.
Bauna Vaman - In Hindi, Bauna means dwarf and Vaaman was an incarnation of Vishn
u which he had taken as a dwarf. However, this Vaaman is a villain. He is a litt
le dynamite. Short and stocky with cocky hair style which make him conspicuous.
He is mechanical buff. Remote Controlled gadgetry is his kind of thing. He is re
gular visitor to jail-courtesy Dhruva. Bauna Vaaman specialists in creating mech
anical bugs and toy gadgets that are remote controlled and are used by him to ha
rass , menace and terrorize his enemies.

Suprema - A bald woman who is the boss of a powerful terrorist organisation. A c

ompetitor to Grand Master Robo.
Dhwaniraj - He Appered In Awaz Ki Tabahi. He Use Sound Energy For All his Crimes
Doctor Virus - He is sickening news for all. Degenerated virus expert who puts h
is knowledge to evils purposes. Plagning society with crimes is his idea of grea
t deed. He uses various viruses as his weapons of terror and naked blackmail. Dr
.Virus is capable of cooking up genetic horrors. Micro-biology and genetic scien
ce is his forte.

Super Nova - His weapon is light. He uses ultra-violet rays as laser beams and m
akes his enemies blind by destroying their eyes. He had blinded Dhruva also. It
was later revealed that Dhruva was not blind. But Dhruva acted well like a blind
man.

Nagraj's Birth
In ancient times when Gods still visited earth without any restrictions,there ex
isted a Kingdom known as Takshaknagar ruled by King Takshakraj & his Queen Lalit
a.The ruling couple had no worries except for one;They had no child.The absence
of a prince or princess made Nagpasha the only potential heir to the throne.Nagp
asha was the younger identical brother of the King,knowing that he was the only
potential heir to the throne Nagpasha started living a lavish worryfree life.
As time passed the Queen started getting depressed over the absence of her own c
hild.The King realizing the cause of Queen's depression got upset too.The couple
used to pray to their family deity Deva Kaljayi for his blessings.Deva Kaljayi

too knew of their grievences,so one day he blessed them to have a good great chi
ld.His blessings came true as the Queen became pregnant soon & the whole Kingdom
rejoiced except for Nagpasha.The birth of this child meant loss of the throne t
o him,so he decided to kill the child before he was born.
One day when the Queen was going to pray Deva Kaljayi, Nagpasha replaced the cur
tained plate of her offerings for the god, with one containing a dead mongoose.
The Snake God got angry & knocked her unconscious by his venomous breath.The Kin
g sought forgiveness from the Devta & pleaded with him to cure his wife which th
e devta refused, following which the desperate King tried to kill himself. Reali
zing the King's love for his Queen, Deva Kaljayi showed him a way to save the Qu
een's life. He gave a crystal to the King & told him to treat it with the Queen'
s medicine. The crystal would divert all the poison from the Queen's body to the
child's body, however due to the ill effects of the poison the Queen would lose
her capability to conceive.
The Kingdom was highly grieved & so was the King. Nagpasha was happy that now he
alone was left as the heir. When the child was born everyone believed him dead
cause his whole body was blue & showed no signs of life.As per Hindu rituals the
new born baby was thrown into the river.
Nagpasha rejoiced & straight away went to Deva Kaljayi (the deity also protected
the royal treasures in form of a giant two headed snake) in drunk state & asked
him to hand over the royal treasures to him,telling him that now he was the sol
e successor to the throne so the treasure belonged to him.The God refused & told
him that the "real successor" to the throne was alive & when the time comes the
treasure will be handed over to him.Enraged Nagpasha raised his sword against t
he deity only to be thrown away by the tail attack of the giant snake.Nagpasha f
ell upon two bowls,one contained the highly toxic venom of the deity which destr
oyed his face & got mixed with his blood,other contained the Amrita which made h
im immortal.Simultaneous effect of both made Nagpasha an immortal venomous man.A
t that time Nagpasha couldnt tolerate the changes in his body & fainted.
When the King was informed of the happenings by Deva Kaljayi he realized that hi
s son was not dead,he also realized the potential dangers to his life.So he orde
red his faithful astrologer Vedacharya who had great knowledge of Tilism (Talism
an) to ensafe the treasure in a Tilism which could be only broken by his son.Ved
acharya made the tilism with the cooperation of Deva Kaljayi to ensure that none
but the King's son is able to break the tilism not even immortal Nagpasha.When
Nagpasha came to his senses he realized that he had lost the treasure.Enraged,he
murdered the King & the Queen.
The child flowing away on the river in his state of suspended animation got stru
ck some where in bushes.There he lied for a long time.
Meanwhile the snake deity Deva Kaljayi appeared in the dreams of King Maniraj &
his wife Queen Manika,rulers of ageless Ichchhadhaari naags living secretly on a
n invisible to human eye island in Indian Ocean,called Nagdweep.He told them the
location of the baby & asked them to cure him.They did so & found out the baby,
they also discovered that he was far more venomious than even the greatest snake
on the island which was Mahatma Kaaldoot indicating that he had divine venom of
the God. Initially the rajvaid was unsure that whether he will be able to cure
the child, but since Deva Kaaljayi himself asked the king for his treatment he w
as assured that treatment will work.According to the rules no one was permitted
to bring an outsider on the island so the King decided to keep his presence secr
et.
Many years passed & the treatment started showing results,though still in the sa
me state of suspended animation,the colour of the baby had gradually changed to
green. The King gave the news to the Queen & they decided to adopt the child cau

se till then they had no child.Their decision was heard by Naagaandhar an evil T
antrik who wanted to become the ruler of the Island but was afraid of Mahatma Ka
aldoot.He attacked the secret area where the baby was kept & escaped with him,fe
aring the wrath of the God he decided not to kill the baby & so he kept him back
into the same bushes in the river from where the baby was discovered.His plan f
lopped cause the Queen soon became pregnant gave birth to a daughter who was nam
ed Visarpi.
Naagaandhar never knew that the baby whom he left astray was cured enough to reg
ain his senses,first his face then whole body became normal humanlike & he start
ed crying. A priest of the nearby temple located him & gifted him to Proffessor
Nagmani who was wandering in nearby forest searching for snakes. For unknown rea
sons the priest narrated a fake story that the child belonged to a raped woman w
ho was a devotee of the snake god & the child was blessed by an ichchhadhari naa
g, he asked Nagmani to bring up the child in such a way that he becomes capable
of avenging his mother.
Nagmani realized that the priest was lying but he took the child with him. The b
lood tests of the child showed that the child had minute microscopic snakes in h
is blood filling in for White blood cells. The child had extraordinary healing p
owers & was extremely venomous. He raised the baby who went on to become Nagraj.
Plot Summary
Nagraj was presented to the world as a creation of Proffessor Nagmani. He was me
ant to be the Ultimate Killing Machine, and his original plan was to hire out Na
graj, to the highest bidder amongst villains and terrorist groups worldwide.
Professor Nagmani used him for his other experimental projects and leasing him f
or international terrorism. Nagmani always claimed that Nagraj's powers were evo
lved by feeding him bits of snake poison till his blood became poison itself. He
claimed that his venom was a result of snake bitings of 1000 different species
of snakes (This echoes the Indian legends of Poison-Men or Women, specifically r
aised to kill by their kiss.) & his other powers evolved when he was treated wit
h ashes of a dead ichchhadhaari snake. In reality the fact was that Nagraj was m
uch more poisonous than any speices of snakes cause his venom was celestial.
Based largely on the Hindu myth of the shape shifting snake, Nagraj derives most

white blood cells) and has a number of powers like superhuman strength, poisonou
s breath vish-foonkaar and bite, instant healing powers and of course, snakes wh
o come out of his wrists separately or make interesting shapes like ropes, parac
hutes and many other depending on his imagination. His venom is believed to be f
ar more stronger than Potassium Cyanide resulting in melting of any living being
's body if he happens to bite them or vice-versa.
For his first mission, he was sold for a sum of $1 million, and the object was t
o recover an ancient statue. Nagraj succeeds but then is foiled by the Sage "Bab
a Gorakhnath", who frees him from the Mind Control of "Professor Nagamani". Waki
ng up to a newer world amid the calmness of Gorakhnath, Nagraj takes a vow to qu
ell terrorism from the world and moves towards achieving this goal.
In his initial issues Nagraj's powers were too limited, at times he was even kno
cked out by powerful human opponents falling unconcious temporarily,his strength
too looked quite humanly as he used to marvel at his opponent's strength like w
hen someone picked up a car.Over the years Nagraj became powerful enough not onl
y to pick up falling cars singlehandedly but also achieved feats like throwing t
hings in outer space quite effortlessly.
It is notable, and perhaps ironic, that Nagraj has now been transformed into a m

ythical-magical creature facing fantastical creatures as his enemies, with eleme

nts of sorcery/magic and even time and space travel. Many cite this as a reason
for the continuous , meteoritic rise in popularity of Nagraj Comics. However, pu
rists still claim that they prefer the more realistic, more practical stories th
at Nagraj began with.
Powers & abilities
Nagraj has the power to vaporize himself into minute particles and become invisi
ble but he can remain in an invisible state only for three seconds. Nagraj is ab
le to transform into snake form at will. He can also take the shape of many othe
r creatures using his Ichhadhari powers but this ability of his has been severel
y curtailed after he willingly used up this power to save the Gods from annihila
tion in Kalyug.
His body is a container of millions of "micro-snakes"(sukshma-sarpa) which he ca
n release at will from his wrists to grow and carry out a variety of tasks. Late
r on he was given a special category of snakes as a boon from Deva Kaljayi - the
Nagfani or Cactus Snakes. It can cut through anything; spew explosive snakes; e

His bizarre ability to contain snakes means he is home to a number of allies, wh
om he can release to carry out independent actions using their own abilities.
His only vulnerability is the situation when someone is successful in cutting of
f his body part completely, after which he cannot regain that part and also loos
es blood which in turn means the loss of snakes and his powers. His snakes prote
ct his entire body from mortal wounds while from his neck upwards he is protecte
d by his Ichchhadhaari - Shakti .
Alter Ego
His alter ego is Raj, who is the fumbling - bumbling Public relations officer of
Bharti Communications, a fictional company in the storyline. In his secret iden
tity of Raj, he pretends to be terrified of snakes. He wears spectacles, a typic
al business suit and is very timid and simple. This is very similar to the chara
cter of Superman/Clark Kent alter ego, even his outfit, straightening of hair an
d use of glasses to conceal himself. Originally, he didn't have any alter ego. H
e travelled around the world to destroy international terrorist. While this was
the original idea, the introduction of alter ego is believed to have harmed the
originality.
