Indian villages account for about 70% of Indias population and they play a significant role in the development that
India wishes to achieve.
Indian Villages as our Weakness:
In rural areas, the illiteracy rate is very high due to which the majority of people are unable to have basic opportunities
in their life to grow. Rate of unemployment and under- employment is very high in rural areas as compared to urban
areas. This means that we are wasting lot of manpower which can otherwise prove an asset to our country.
The health infrastructure in villages is very low despite of the high vulnerability of village folks to diseases and health
disorders. The rural India is still pre- occupied with social prejudices and women discrimination, making the way of
social backwardness and hindering the growth and development of nation. Their reluctance to eradicate such social
evils like dowry makes them a liability for the nation.
Over dependency on agriculture for livelihood is one of the reasons for poverty in rural areas. Since, in most of the
parts of India, agriculture is solely dependent on hefty monsoons, and any deviation in it creates havoc and thus
people dont get their due returns and fall below poverty line. Thus these show that Indian villages are our weakness.
Indian Villages as our Strength:
Agriculture which is mostly practiced in villages is one of the largest sectors contributing in Indian GDP. Since in
villages, people mostly practice agriculture, there is lot green cover out there, which is a bright prospect from
environmental point of view. Most of the villages are located on the outskirts of the city, so they are kept untouched by
the lethal gifts of the urban life, like pollution etc.
Some villages depict our cultural and historical heritage. They have various tourist spots which can generate foreign
exchange for the nation. In rural India, people are extremely down to earth. They supply laborious, skilled, cheap
labour to various industries. The true Indian culture, customs and moral values are exhibited in villages or rural areas
only. So they are the safeguards or preservers of the Indian culture and traditions.
Further, the lifeline of all urban areas, i.e. food we eat, all comes from villages. Without them it would have been
impossible to feed such a large population that India has. We count on them for survival.
In the end we conclude that Indian villages are a big strength for the nation as they are the one that does not depend
on any other cities, but the entire India is dependent on villages. They contribute to our modern India in every field
form agriculture, economy, and prettiness of our country. Hence, The villages are big strength to India.
