E201: WORK, ENERGY AND POWER

EVANGELISTA, Renz Lexter C.

OBJECTIVE
The purpose of this experiment for the work,
energy and power is to understand what makes
the objects moves and how many energy was
consumed in one work and also to prove that the
formula of the work is a realistic when doing the
experiment and also when it apply to the
experiment.
The experiment was performed to have
knowledge on what will be the outcome in terms
of application of the lesson. And it will give some
information on what will occurs in real life. After
the experiment, the application of the work will
discover that its only the dot product of the force
and the displacement, or simply the

( Fcos )s

. Also it will understand what the power, work

and energy is. The experiment is composed of
two objects to determine the power of the fan in
kart and the other is to determine the work in the
motion along a curved path.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Every experiment is need the materials to apply
in its method. First, the Pasco dynamics track.
Its used in the part one of the experiment and
this is where the displacement of the cart
measures. The second one is the Pasco fan cart

(with 2 duracell
battery)

it shown the process of the experiment
the object
who doing work, Pasco timer and Photogates will
serve as the timer in the part 1, Orions Highclass Protractor is for the angle of the part 2 it
also determine if the dynamic track is horizontally
straight, a generic meter stick is to measure the
displacement accurately, Pasco mass and hanger
set is for the part 1 to add weight and to
determine how much mass will not move the fan
cart, a generic iron stand is for the part 2 and
lastly is the generic spring balance to determine
the force released in the experiment. The method
used in the part 1 is placing the

Fan cart in to the dynamics track then attached

the string with the mass hanger. And in the part
2, the using the string with the weight, simply
twine the string in the iron stand then make a
hole for the hook of the spring balance.
OBSERVATIONS AND RESULTS
After conducting the experiment part 1, the
group observe that when the displacement of the
object becomes larger, the time, work and the
power also become larger. In short, the force is
directly proportional to the displacement as well
as
the
work and
time. As

is

displacement

or

simply

W =FS

or

W =( Fcos ) S . It also observe that when

using the actual computation, there is the
difference of the actual computation and the
manual. They have some percent errors. t

Table 1. It is the computation for part 1 using the MS

excel 2013

As seen in the table 1, the trials becomes larger

when the displacement becomes longer. So the
formula

W =FS

is used correctly. In part 2, the

path was observed.
It used the free body diagram to evaluate the
work. The angles was measured every trials and
also
the
height.

Table 2 it is the computation for part 2 using the MS

excel 2013

As seen in the table 2, when the angle increase,

the height also increase and as the same thing to
the force, and work.
DISCUSSION & CONCLUSION
So therefore conclude that the work is equal to
the force times the displacement of an object. As
the result of the experiment 201, it achieve the
lesson
to
gain
knowledge
about the
lessons.

human
errors. First is the accuracy of the measure of the
photo gates, it needs a program that they can
arrange in an accurate measure of the
displacement to have a better answer. Second is
the power of the battery of the fan cart, in future
days it will become powerless so it can mistake
the accurate answer and having some human
errors. Another ideas that the protractor in the
part 2 will be easier to measure and not like a
guessing the accurate angle.
So the experiment achieved the objective. First is
that the work is will be directly proportional in
the force and displacement. As seen in the table
1, in the trial 1 to 2 when the displacement
increase, it also increase all of the rows. Also in
the part 2, in the trial 1-5 all of the force was

increased, it is also in the final height, angles,

displacement, and in the work also increases. In
short the when the forces increase, the work will
increase.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT & REFERENCE

I would like to thanks my mom and dad because
they gave me food around 4 am when im doing
this lab report, also in my dog, keeper who

waiting me to finish before he go to sleep. Also in

the jeepney driver who drove so fast and because
of that Im not late in my class. Especially to my
friend who always laughing in my grammar. And
lastly in god who gave me faith to get a high
grades in this lab report.
