How the new Real Time Information

System benefits the operator
A new real time information system has
been installed to enhance the
management of bus operations. The real
time information system allows the
operator to monitor the location of buses
on the routes they are covering and
predict when the buses will arrive at
their next stop. The system allows realtime departure times to be shown on the
display screens at Liberation Station and
through the text messaging system, so
passengers will know exactly when to
expect the next bus at their stop, as well
as providing valuable operational
information.
ACIS Tandata has developed similar
systems for bus services in the UK and
is currently providing the flight arrivals
and departures information for Jersey
Airport.
How it works:

The real-time information system works

by tracking the position of buses using
GPS (Global Positioning System). This
information is used to predict the time of
departure from the stops on the bus
route, giving a real-time departure time.

The GPS works through a system of

satellites. The satellites signal the
location of the bus to the on-board
computer. This information is then
communicated via the radio
