I Will Fight For You: By Pastor Joe

The Next Church: By Pastor Joe

While planning out our New Year Service, my prayer was for change. I
wanted to experience a move of God, something out of the ordinary to
move our ministry into a divine direction and purpose. I was impressed
to ask my Granddaughter Alisha, to be in charge of the service. I gave
her permission to format the service in a way appealing to the younger
generation.
The service was awesome, several young people were in attendance.
They took part in the service sharing their talents and gifts. In addition
they shared their struggles and testimonies proclaiming victory in
Christ Jesus.
Afterward, I was content with the outcome of the service, however
God wanted me to see that this service represented a way to reach
the Millennia Generation, through relevant expressions of Gods Love.
For they represent THE NEXT CHURCH.

The spirit of compromise has

unleashed an attack against
our young people. 1.2 million
youth drop out of school yearly in our nation. This disconnection leads to a cycle o f
drugs, poverty, unemployment
and violence. The Millennias
(18 29) only attend church for
weddings and funerals. The
current shifting of the economic landscape forces this group
to face a competitive job market offering an abundance of
part-time jobs which produces
underemployment. There is a
spiritual battle at hand.

How Do We Reach Them?

Has God Lost His Power? By Urban Faith

OPINION: If the behavior of todays church is any indication, God is no

longer relevant to our real-life circumstancesat least thats the message being communicated to the younger generation. As a rule, people do not gravitate toward that which appears not to work. And this,
I believe, is how the younger generations of Christians interpret Christianity today: anemic, irrelevant, powerless.
Too many Christians today carry their Bibles to church and profess
their faith in the power of Jesus, but then go back to decrepit communities and overcrowded houses, where they are suffocating in bills,
poor health, and an overall dissatisfaction with their lives. Inwardly
they struggle with having a better life on earth and being a poor person who suffers long because they are Christians. Any suggestion of
ones life being a physical manifestation of the quality of ones faith is
immediately dismissed as prosperity gospel and even anti-Christian.
Their (misguided) logic goes like this: heaven is their reward; and
though evil appears to be winning today, in the very end good will
make a comeback.
Is this a surprise? Either the Living God is losing His power, or Christians are doing something wrong. I say Christians are doing something
wrong. Our faith must be more than hope in eternal life with God. It
must be a bulletin board for all to see consistency in our lives to show
the power that God holds for helping us live holy, purposeful, and relevant lives TODAY.
Young people are not interested in being a part of something that is
not working. Young people are uninterested in carrying on traditions
for traditions sake. We want evidence. We dont want to be defeated.
We want power. We want to feel excited about God and Gods people
again. Lets have a conversation. Do you think God is losing His power
in todays church? What can we do to make our faith more real to the
younger generation?

The Relevant Fight

The Winning Formula
By Pastor Joe
If we are to win young people to the
Church we must communicate the Gospel through means that address the
questions and fears of the younger
generation.
To plainly put it, we must be willing to
engage in what I refer to as the
Relevant Fight. The weapons of this
warfare is the Church ability to speak
the language of young people and the
willingness to allow young people the
freedom of expression.
The Church must interact with young
people using the language they understand and create opportunities for
young people to express themselves in
music, dance and various forms of art.
David, the king of Israel was often
found demonstrating his love for God
through expressions of songs, dance
and language (poetry).
We should never compromise our message, however we must be willing to
change our methods.
The Church must become skillful in the
Relevant Fight, communicating in the
language that young people understand and allowing young people to
express themselves, I believe this is
truly the winning formula.

We must recognize we are in a fight. Ephesian

6: 12, confirms that we are in a fight. All battles
originate from a spiritual attack.

The church must be willing to fight for young

people. We must not become complacent and
content to allow one young person to be held
captive by forces that seduce them to loose
their dreams, goals and purpose.

The church must be willing to pay the cost to

win young people, not conceding to loosing
them to secular culture.

The Bible states that God is not willing that any

be lost, but that all come to repentance. God
was willing to fight for us, it obvious. He gave
His all, He gave the ultimate, He gave JESUS.
Luke 15, gives a great example of how important it is to go after that which is seemingly
lost. The chapter mention the lost of a sheep,
a coin and the lost of a son. In all examples
great effort, expenses and faith was exhausted
to find that which was lost.
Lets pray to the Lord of the Harvest for strategies that will empower us to win our young
people. Lets us be willing to pay whatever the
cost, to win this generation. Let us be able to
say to this generation, We Will Fight For
You!
