Dear Secretary Myers,

The Baldwin County Alabama Sheriffs Office would like to request pruticipation and
tTainmg in the 287(g) Delegation of Authority Program offered by the rmmigration and
Customs Enforcement Agency.

Baldwin County is a border aJ'ea in that we are boarded by the Gulf of Mexico. and the
State of Florida. Our County is a large land mass with about 1600 square miles reaching
just less than 100 miles inland. The population of our county is about \65.000 full time
residents. During the vacation season our population will exceed 200.000. Baldwin
County is ill a growth economy. Many commercial and residential construction projects
are undef\vay.

We have seen a dramatic increase in our immigrant population. So far we have identified
immigrants from Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, Korea, Cbezckosvokia, and other
countries. Many c.ome here seeking the constmction. service industry and agricultural
jobs ofTered by our continued growth. Witb this increase we have seen an increase in
inunigrant related crime. My agency has worked cases of Rape. Robbery. Drug
Trafficking and various misdemeanor crimes associated \\1tb them. Not to mention the
fact Interstate 10 and Interstate 65 both transect out county with large volumes of
interstate traffic.

I am requesting the 287(g) [mining so my oflke can take a large step toward addressing
these issues. r fee l it wou.ld benefit all those a ffec ted by the issue and streamlLne what
can be a cumbersome process. Our jail currently ho lds 600 inmates 80 of which arc
fe deral detainees. Should we be able to partne r with ICE. I feel we would be better able
to address this multi faceted challenge.

If approved, I would be willing to send Deputies, Investigators and Correction Officers to

the training. I want to thank in advance for your assistance in this matter. Please contact
