Rob Alverson has contacted the manufacturer of the

LED Snowflakes regarding cost of purchasing additional
lights for the eastern entrance of the Village. He has purchased smaller snowflakes for the Fleischmanns sign and
will research whether any of the LED Snowflakes purchased last year need replacement. Rob will purchase
new holiday decorations shortly. Please join Rob for holiday decorating on November 30th at 10am.
The following resolution was passed by consensus and is
to be presented to the Village of Fleischmanns leadership.
Fleischmanns First requests that the Village explore with
an attorney conversant with legal options that would allow the Village to retain consent over the transfer of historic assets in the Village of which the Theater is one,
such as a net net net lease.

The next FF meeting is December 6th, 9:30am at La Cabana.

Fleischmanns Then and Now

Tennis has always been a popular
pastime
here
in
Fleischmanns. Courts have graced the Village Park for many years. During the
tenure of mayor Murray Mayes, the
number of courts grew from 2 to 4.
The Fleischmanns Tennis Tournament began in 1974; when the additional courts were added, the tournament was expanded to include doubles as well as singles competition.
The registration fee for the first
year's tournament was $1. Sadly the
courts were heavily damaged due to
the Hurricane Irene flooding. Their
restoration has recently been completed, and folks are playing
again. The 'then' image shows the
courts just after the flood in 2011.

Fleischmanns to get new

Barber Shop
I stopped by the storefront at
1033 Main Street to see the
renovations that Marino Delacruz was doing in advance of opening his new venture
in Fleischmanns. The ceiling is painted a
charcoal grey and three barber chairs are
ready to be placed. Vivae Colores will
open later this month; the telltale sign of
the barber pole is already installed outside.
Marino will be opened Monday-Thursday
from 9am to 7pm and 9am to 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Watch for the official
opening towards the middle of the month!

Fleischmanns First HOWLWEEN Event!!

Museum Volunteers Luncheon

On Saturday, November 1st, the Greater Fleischmanns Museum of Memories hosted
its annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, again held at Mi Lupita. The yearly
event is held to thank the volunteers who help in so many ways during the year. As
always, Martin served up a feast that was enjoyed by all. Pictured are Don Kearney,
Mary Chesire, John Duda, Peggy Kearney, Marilyn Ringel, Mabel West, Dan Chesire,
and Ron Morse. It ended up being a working lunch, as plans for next year's season
were discussed, and some recent donations to the Museum were reviewed. A huge
thank you goes out to our volunteers.

Native Daughter Put to Rest

It is with sadness that we note the death of Hilda Finkel, 96, who died in Florida on October 14 th and was
buried in Congregation Bnai Israel Cemetary, Fleischmanns on Monday, October 21st . Her father was Max
Silverman, the owner and builder of the Fleischmanns Theater, Maxbuilt. Hilda last visited Fleischmanns in
September 2008. Below is the Fleischmanns Flyer story about her last visit to the Village where she was
raised.
A Native Daughter returns Home to Fleischmanns!
A few months ago, I received a call from Idalynn Finkel who explained that her mother, Hilda Silverman Finkel, now 90 years old
wanted to visit Fleischmanns where she had been raised. It had been over 50 years since Hilda had moved away from Fleischmanns
and it had been over 10 years since her last visit. Idalynn booked a suite at Breezy Hill Inn for her mother, herself and Edele, her
adopted sister. They would stay for five days. A couple of days later Hilda called with excitement about the visit. She had been in
touch with Adele Siegel and was eager to meet up with members of Congregation Bnai Israel. Her father was one of the founding
members. She graduated from Fleischmanns High School in the 1930s and was eager to find out about her classmates and Fleischmanns childhood friends.
The Finkels arrived in Fleischmanns on August 14 th. The first day was spent walking up and down Main Street and Wagner Avenue. The Silverman family had lived for a while in the house next to the synagogue when Hilda was a child and then moved further
up Wagner Avenue to a larger house, still standing across from the park. Hilda and her daughters visited both houses. Hilda was reluctant to tour her second childhood home for fear that her memories might be compromised. But fearful of meeting up with Fleischmanns natives she was not. She talked with several longtime Fleischmanns family members and exchanged memories from long ago.
Saturday the family attended services at Congregation Bnai Israel and were surrounded by Hildas nieces, nephews and grandnieces
and grandnephews all of whom had traveled from Long Island back to the ancestral home village. The members of the congregation
welcomed the family and especially Hilda home!
Hilda told us of dances at the Halcott Grange, wagon trips through the back roads of Fleischmanns, Red Kill and Halcott Center. Her
stories of the heyday of Fleischmanns were colorful and evocative! We hope Hilda will come back to visit with us all soon again!

Letter from Mayor Pascarella..

Fleischmanns Flyer
Editors

Dear Fleischmanns Community,

This year the fall colors were as spectacular as anyone could remember. What a beautiful natural gift. It was all over too soon though. People are busy around the Village
getting those last few projects done before winter, with the memory of last winter's severity as motivation. Two projects that will however have to wait until spring will be
the playground and the concession stand at the park. I already have them on my Christmas list, along with many others, and I have not been naughty, rather I have been quite
nice so I have full confidence they will happen.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
