COURSE OVERVIEW:

This is an introductory course on computer networking, specifically the Internet. It focuses on explaining how
the Internet works, ranging from how bits are modulated on wires and in wireless to application-level protocols
like Bit-Torrent and HTTP. It also explains the principles of how to design networks and network protocols.
Students gain experience reading and understanding RFCs (Internet protocol specifications) as statements of
what a system should do. The course grounds many of the concepts in current practice and recent developments,
such as net neutrality and DNS security.

COURSE ASSESSMENT METHODS:

a) Marks Distribution
Session Marks

There shall be 2 midterm examinations. Each midterm examination consists

of subjective type and Objective type tests.
The subjective test is for 10 marks, with duration of 1 hour.
Subjective test of each semester shall contain 4 questions; the student
has to answer 2 questions, each carrying 5 marks.
The objective type test is for 10 marks with duration of 20 minutes. It
consists of 10 Multiple choice and 10 objective type questions, the student
has to answer all the questions and each carries half mark. First midterm
examination shall be conducted for the first four units of syllabus and
second midterm examination shall be conducted for the remaining four
units. Five marks are given for assignments. There shall be two assignments
in every theory course. Marks shall be awarded considering the average of
two assignments in each course
