Growing up, what did people tell you will potentially become? (Ex: potential artist, singer, scientist) Were
you able to achieve said potential?

Ephesians 2:10
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that
we would walk in them.

Gods Plan for our Lives

We are Gods masterpieces. He set an amazing
plan for us even before we were born.

God saved us for a purpose. This purpose is not

just the assurance that we are going to heaven. We
bring honor to God when we do good works for
Him. We were saved to be the salt and light of the
earth. Not doing so is living below our full

Sadly, some of us fail to live out our full potential.

We can live our lives without knowing Gods
amazing plan for ourselves. How can we
experience the fruitful life we have in Christ?

1. Make sure you have the Holy Spirit

He who steals must steal no longer; but rather he

must labor, performing work with his own hands
what is good, so that he will have something to
share with one who has need. Ephesians 4:28

The only way for us to unleash our full potential is

to walk by the Spirit. A reformed thief will not just
stop stealing but get a decent job and help other
people after he starts walking by the Spirit. Only
Jesus power can transform lives. When God tells
us to do something, the Holy Spirit empowers us
to obey (John 14:16).
2. Practice the Obey Now Principle

Walking in the Spirit means that when God

prompts us to do something, we obey at once.
Delay keeps us from obeying. We miss out on
being used by God when we delay obedience.

Learning from David

David anointed as king
God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the
outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the
heart. -1 Samuel 16:7

God told Samuel to go to Jesses house to look for a

king. Jesse presented his seven sons to the prophet
but did not include his youngest son, David, who
was at that time tending the sheep. He probably
did not consider David a potential king. But God
anointed David to be the next king of Israel.

The Spirit of the Lord came upon David (1 Samuel

16:13). The Holy Spirit began to work mightily in
his life. David, knowing he was going to be king,
might have been tempted to be proud. But David
remained humble even after his anointing. He
continued being a shepherd and worked as one of
King Sauls musicians in the palace.
Facing Goliath

David was running an errand for his father when

Goliath, the Philistines champion (1 Samuel 17:17,
23) taunted Israels armies (1 Samuel 17:26).
David knew that it was his duty to honor and
glorify God so he volunteered to face Goliath.
David wholeheartedly obeyed God. Because of his
obedience, God used him to defeat Goliath and the
Philistines. David gained recognition among the
people even before he was king.

God can use the Goliaths in our lives to fulfill His

plans for us if we obey now. Like David, we must
make it our utmost priority to honor God. All our
choices and decisions must ultimately glorify Him.

WORD (contd)
How do you know what God is telling you?
The Holy Spirit gives us discernment for the things
that go against the Bible. If we have Gods word
kept in our hearts then we will know the things
that are not from Him.

This is applicable to the decisions we make daily.

(Examples: breaking an illicit affair, sharing the
gospel, making disciples, etc.) Do not delay
obedience. Obey now! We may hear voices that

will distract us from obeying God. But if we know

Gods voice, we will not be confused.

We need to start including small steps of

obedience in our daily walk with God. In Gods
time, Gods purpose will be revealed to us. Obey
God in the small things so we will be ready for the
bigger plans He has for us.

Discussion Questions:

(Leaders: Please choose questions that are appropriate to the level of spiritual maturity of your members)
1. A Masterpiece. According to Ephesians 2:10, who are we in Christ Jesus? What does it mean to be a
workmanship in Christ Jesus based on Ephesians 2:8-9?

2. The Best of You. Search your hearts now. What is God telling us to do in order to live out our full
potential? What is hindering us from doing that? Cite reasons.

3. Now or Never. What were some promptings from the Holy Spirit that we failed to obey in the past?
Look back. What were the excuses we gave for delaying obedience? What is God telling us to do now?
How will we begin to apply the Obey Now principle?
