MLC Summer Academy 2015

July 6- July 31, 2015

8:30 a.m. -12:00 p.m.
Registration is due by June 5, 2015
Space is limited and priority will be given to those students who are required
to attend due to credit recovery.
The MLC Summer Academy will focus on:
1. Summer Academy- New Students
Introduction and work on Summer Reading, Improving/Enhancing academic skills, and
previewing upcoming curriculum. Target group: Incoming students in grade 6, new and
current MLC 7th and 8th grade students.

2. Summer Academy Credit Recovery

Recovering credit for a course not passed in a middle school class. Target group: Any child
entering grade 7, grade 8 or grade 9 who failed one (1) or more classes in middle school
will be required to attend Summer Academy.

*** Attendance is required every day during Summer Academy

to be awarded course credit.***
3. Summer Academy Enrichment Opportunities
There will be enrichment classes offered for students entering the sixth, seventh, and eighth
grades. The curriculum will revolve around our theme of international and global studies. This
unique opportunity will showcase students participation in the theme and how situations
impact their daily life. Target focus: Getting to know our IB Learner Profiles

4. Transition to High School Program - Incoming 9th graders ONLY

The purpose of this day is to introduce the incoming 9th graders to the expectations of High
School. We will focus on topics such as: Formative Assessment vs. Summative AssessmentWhat is the difference?, Transcript and Credit Requirements, Schoology/PowerSchool How
do I use them in HS?, Project Planning How do I manage my time effectively?, MYP
Personal Project, and I am absent What do I do?
