AIMS OF THE LESSON - To develop Ss' ability to use language in real life situations - To develop Ss' speaking and writing skills - To revise and improve vocabulary concerning the cycle of life - To revise and practice grammar: Past and Present Tenses -to introduce new vocabulary -familiarize the students with the structure of an article and a report -enrich vocabulary 3. OBJECTIVES OF THE LESSON: by the end of the lesson students will be able to: - Write correctly a report or an article according to the revised techniques - use correctly the revised linking words and phrases -create their own situations and deal with new circumstances - employ correctly the grammar topic - develop speaking and communicative skills in order to incorporate the revised types of writing 4. LESSON TYPE: speaking, vocabulary and writing 5. SKILLS: reading, speaking, writing 6. CLASSROOM INTERACTIONS: frontal interaction, individual work, group work 7. AIMS: - to introduce the topic: Articles and reports - to familiarize the students with the topic of the lesson PROCEDURE: -the teacher greets the students and checks their homework. The possible mistakes are corrected. -the students read the homework, correct the mistakes and answer the teachers questions -the teacher gives the handouts to the students with models of a report and an article INTERACTION: teacher-students ACTIVITY 2:reading and speaking practice(10 min) AIM:-to revise the structure of a composition PROCEDURE:-the teacher passes the handouts to the students -students start reading exercise 7/188 and according to the statement, they answer the questions, state their agreement and disagreement and explain their choice. -teacher listens and corrects their answers -students continue with exercise 8/188 reading the model of a composition and discussing the accuracy of the composition -the teacher asks questions and corrects their answers INTERACTION: individual work, teacher-students, students-teacher ACTIVITY 3: writing a report (10 min) AIM:- to develop students reading skills -to revise the structure of a report -to use the learnt vocabulary in context PROCEDURE:- the teacher shows students a model of a reportand asks questions about the way we should write a report: how many paragraphs
should we have?, what should we write in each paragraph? what should
we write in the introduction/conclusion? -students answer the questions -teacher writes the answers on the blackboard -students take notes -teacher reads the rubric from exercise 9/189 to the students -in groups of 2 students answer the questions according to the rubric -students read the model of the report and answer the questions according to it -the teacher corrects their answers INTERACTION: group work, T-Ss, Ss-T ACTIVITY 4: writing a short story (10 min) AIM: -develop writing and reading skills -revise the structure of a short story writing PROCEDURE: -the teacher reads the rubric from exercise 10/189 -in groups of 2 the students answer the question according to the short story rubric -the teacher corrects their answers -the students read model A and model B of the short story - the teacher asks them about their opinions regarding the accuracy of the 2 models - students give arguments to their answers INTERACTION:T-Ss, Ss-T, group work ACTIVITY 5: writing an article (10 min) AIM: revise the structure of an article PROCEDURE: -teacher writes the structure of an article on the blackboard -students read the rubric from exercise 11/190 -teacher asks questions about the way the article given should be written -students take notes INTERACTION:T-Ss, Ss-T, individual work
