1. Send the MATERIALS MANAGER to the front to pick up ONE bag of M&Ms, ONE paper
plate, and ONE spoon.

2. At your table, pour ALL your M&Ms from the bag onto the paper plate.

3. Before you do anything else, just LOOK at the M&Ms. DO NOT EAT ANY OF THEM
YET!!!!

Data: is just information.

There are two types of information that we can collect about anything.

Qualitative (Qualitative  Qualtities) – Information that deals with

descriptions that can be observed, but not measured. This type of information is focused on the
senses: looks, smells, tastes, textures, etc.

Answer this: Use the space below to generate a list of qualitative data you could record about
M&Ms. Be ready to share your group’s answers with the class.

Quantitative (Quantitative  Quantities) – Information that deals with

numbers and things that can be measured.

Answer this: Use the space below to generate a list of quantitative data that you could measure
about M&Ms. Be ready to share your group’s answers with the class.

Answer this: Based on your list of quantitative data and your reading of the task, which of the
quantitative things you could measure are you actually going to measure?
