Pre-Commissioning

GENERAL GUIDELINES
Purpose/Scope
This work package encompasses all

requirements for commissioning, both


mechanically and electrically, the
Ventilation/Combustion Air System. The
combustion air starts at the air intake and
ends at the exhaust. The ventilation system
starts at the air intake and ends at the
package exhaust.
Precautions
Personnel working with, on, or around the ventilation
and combustion air system should review all applicable
safety guidelines and wear appropriate personal
protective equipment.
When working in elevated spaces, a harness and safety
strap is required.
When entering filter house, do not wear loose articles
such as pens, chains, tools, etc.

Special Tooling - Equipment


Grease gun with proper lubricant
Cleaning equipment (i.e., rags, flashlight, vacuum)
Digital multimeter and signal generator
Hand held pressure pump (up to 1500 psi or above,
vacuum to 30 in-Hg required, standard oil-filled
pump OK)

MECHANICAL CHECKS
1.

Verify dampers are installed in accordance with drawings and operational.

2.

Verify correct rotation of ventilation fans.

3.

Verify flexible connections are installed correctly and all fasteners are tight.

4.

Verify all silencers are installed correctly at both inlet and exhaust ducts.

5.

Verify all ductwork is secure and all fasteners are installed and secure.

6.

Ensure all equipment is properly lubricated prior to operation.

7.

Verify filter house installation is complete according to manufacturers


recommendations.

8.

Inspect inlet ductwork construction and installation.

9.

Inspect air inlet ductwork for debris and/or contamination (refer to Inlet Cleaning
and Inspection).

10.

Verify air inlet bell mouth, bullet nose, FOD screen and filter screens are installed
correctly and all fasteners are secure.

11.

Verify inlet filter elements are installed correctly per manufacturers guidelines and
correct filters are in use.

12.

Inspect filter compartments for debris, contamination and preservation (refer to Inlet
Cleaning and Inspection).

13.

Ensure drain trap is filled with water.

14.

Ensure filter modules are properly sealed by closing doors and turn off lighting.

15.

Lock filter house access doors.

ELECTRICAL CHECKS
16.

Complete electrical checklist for motors prior to operating fans.

17.

Verify operation of analog and discrete readouts.

18.

Inspect for visible damage to any cable or termination.

19.

Check for adequate distance between power, control, and instrument cables.

20.

Check conductor connections at both ends; identification labels should be attached


to each conductor.

21.

Verify size and current capacity of conductors is suitable for application.

22.

Check means of cable protection against mechanical damage at points where cables
leave cable trays or enter package.

23.

Check grounding connections.


INSTRUMENTATION CHECKS

24.

Perform point-to-point checks using packaged supplied interconnect drawings.


Highlight drawing accordingly and insert signed copy in this section.

25.

Check and verify operation of analog and discrete readouts.

26.

Verify ranges and set points for all instrumentation as listed in Cause and Effect
Matrix Ventilation and Combustion Air Sheet. Mark each instrument as calibrated
or verified in the appropriate column.

27.

Check functioning of control switches.

28.

Verify the following records have been updated;
