Prologue

Chapter One
It is the year 2016 and NASA had received news that an alien spacecraft is approaching the solar
system they will arrive at Earth within a fortnight. The story opens as the renowned astrobiologist and
theoretical physicist Dr. David Abner addressing Congress. He believes that the aliens mean no harm
If aliens have the technology to travel lightyears at a time, why would they not have the technology to
colonize other planets? Also, their tech is so much beter, we will just make them angry... - and that they
should be greeted peacefully. The speaker pro tempore (Mr. Speaker). Those in favor say aye, no. The
vote was close but Congress did not vote for war. David is very relieved that war was not declared. He
meets his wife, a Republican politician, who is incredibly upset with him however maintained good
couple ness she was entirely in favor of war with the aliens. Interrupted by general. Talk general
supports David, however is creepy. However, as they leave, he is assaulted by angry publ
ic members, thinking that the aliens should be nuked before it is too late. Policemen arrive and herd
him towards his car. How does he feel as he finishes speaking.
Chapter Two
The scene shifts to his house outside Washington; he lives close to Washington as DARPA
headquarters is in Arlington, VA, right near DC. He is surprised by how normal and civilized life
seems. Talks to a neighbor. He almost expect it to be like the movie Independence Day. He does notice
a decent amount of people leaving the suburbs, but also a decent amount staying. His wife stalks away
when he gets home, and he greets his children, where we see them for the first time. The girl is about 5,
but the boy is 13, and is somewhat excited about the aliens. Father gets excited too. He turns on the
television to find out that the entire army was called to service and the national guard was being
gathered, for the safety of the public. The news reports that the ship will arrive at Earth within four
days. Hwoever, Dave is stil
l upset about his wife he doesn't like people to be mad at him. He speculates a bit about the aliens,
what they will be like, what they could teach and gets very excoted. However, his thoughts keep
drifting back to his wife, and it appears that he is only thinking about the aliens to forget his wife's fury.
He cannot take it any longer and confronts his wife. He goes into the bedroom where he finds her
crying into a pillow. He is very surprised, he has never seen his wife break down, not even once. He
tries to comfort her, but she is furious with him she thinks he has doomed them all. The only option was
to nuke the aliens. He finally manages to comfort her a bit, kisses her on the forehead, and leaves.
Interaction with kids. Finds out wife stocked up on supplies.
Chapter 3 and.
Gets called at home as he is playing piano. New weird clearance. The next few days pass normally. He
returns to work, and his children return to school. However, he finds out that his new immediate job is
to study the spacecraf,find out how it works, try to determine what life lives omit, ect. He goes into
DARPA and finds out he will work with a small task force to meets with a small group of individuals to
determine how to communicate with and ect the alien spacecraft. They meet with the president in DC.
Meets with president before others enter. President commends hi on speech before congress. President
asks if he ever has his doubts that aliens will come in peace". There is a psycholinguist, environmental
biologist, two astrophysicist, and odd others including ecologist . They debate how they should greet
the aliens, with what method, and what message. Two get tvery upset that David testified before
congress to keep aliens. Tensions had risen. First day they don't get much done, however talks to one
female scientist afterward and they brainstorm ideas. They create a series of signals (TBd) to
communicate with the aliens. However, he finds out that the operation has been moved over to the
army and that he was no longer required aas he is not allowed to enter the White House . Later invites

woman to his house. Son has crush on her which later shows.
Chapter 4
On the fourth day, a Thursday, Dave and his family and woman cluster around the tv. The news is going
ballistic as the alien ship sits just outside earths atmosphere. Comforts his wife. News says will be new
step for humanity. The news station suddenly reports that communication was attempted with the aliens
after a few tense minutes, and news reports something exited spacecraft and all a distant thud is heard
and all the power goes off. Seconds later, a huge explosion occurs, as a shock wave shakes the house.
David is shell shocked, utterly surprised at what was happening. He cannot move. His wife yells at.
Them to all get into the basement. He runs with his son down and doesn't see. His wife. He hears
explosions, closer and closer. His wife runs down the stairs with the baby clutched in her arms as the
house explodes. The wife falls but manages to protect the baby. They stay huddled in the basement for
hours until the explosions die off. They hear fighter jets scream across the sky.
Chapter 5
The wife gets a hidden pistol and the husband is surprised she has one- Zhenjiang doesn't approve of
guns. He and his wife argue what to do. He believes that they should stay in the basement until the
fighting wears off. His wife thinks that it won't and they should ru to somewhere rural, into the forests.
David finally admits knowledge of a secret military base, where they decide to head to. They gather
supplies in several backpacks. Checks kids. The cars are all destroyed. David wonders if his kids will
be okay. Makes wife hand him gun. They think that it will be hardest to get out of the city, once they
do that then there will be many foresty place to hide. It turns out a decent amount of people have
survived. The family was about to hike out of town, when they saw others doing the same, when they
see others all around them begin inning to crumple, screaming. There was no sound of anything fired.
You see several aliens for the first and one of the last times. They
are humanoid and are armored. And armed with weird weapons that are large and awkward. Only two
aliens. Gun doesn't work, trick aliens into near car and fires flares into a car. . They eventually manage
to get away from the aliens, there is a small fight and run towards the outskirts of town.
Chapter 6
they head on the highway, and walk parallel to it in the foliage. All along the highway they see
death.Some people escaped from their cars and ran some cars were blown up and ect. Debated when to
travel and how. Car?They travel,by day,along the highway for two days and reach the forest in which
the base I the early third. They see aliens once or twice but avoid them easily. Son ismscRed, and
comforts him. They had lots of granola bars in the backpacks and were able to eat fine. Made survival
stuff. Kept watch. Water,, on the other hand was a problem. Kept going for two days surprised to we no
aliens. Heard some screaming and gunshots one day but didn't go after. They waited for it to rain, and
David was able to grab some water for it into his bottle and several others. as they walk down the road,
David observes the dead, and noticed that one is still moving. It turns out that the woman had a disease,
which came from the water. David soon real,Ives that the aliens are using a bioplogical weapon.
Checking he finds out that only he had drank the rain water. They ru
sh to the base and arrive the next morning. When got I forest felt safe for first time in forever. David
was scared about himself. He only knew general direction, flew to the base by helicopter. Woman still
with them but very sick.
Chapter 7think they find it but nobody will let them in.
He is rushed to the hospital and waits there for several days, but is considered fine he has a natural
immunity. However held because he could still be contagious. Finds out woman is on her deathbed.
Wonders what will happen to world feels guilty. He meets with joe, a high ranking military man who

details to him what has happened as far as they know. There are many isolated military groups still in
existence. Joe shows Dave where he will live with his family. Joe will be working with some of the
other top scientists in the world still alive to find out how to defeat the aliens, mostly pierce armor. He
finds out the the overall mission though is to save other humans, not defeat the enemy just. Yet. David
thinks that is stupid, doesn't argue, however meets with commander later and argus it with him. .he
admits some wanted to execute David. Look at realizations. Begins to wander around base, discuss the
rules on the base.
Chapter 8
The next part details his life on the base. Explain job for a bit, meets new people, gets a sense of a life.
Still very depressed though, and not doing good work. Depressed that so many people killed, he caused
it, ect. Joe calls on him and gives him a pep talk. Soon, Ht has come to find anpattern in life,and
actually enjoy it with his family. Gets to know friends and starts having theoretical discussions about
how to beat enemy, start arguing about how weird it is that they are not chasing the enemy. One guy
who is a brainiac quotes the art of war. Kids work I'm factory. Restrictions loosen so,wwhat and is
allowed out of base with at least one other person for thirty minutes. Knows he can't be happy though
until relationship with wife is better. Surprises her by taking her outside - she was claustrophobic.

begins to looktowards the future for the first time in weeks and thinks ot that humanity has a chance.
His son hS become more reserved and otquiet, the stress is ndamaging to him. His wife is finally
starting to open back up to hi though.
Chapter 8
Howeverthe, their son has now turned fifteen and is required to serve I the military. He runs off into the
forest and David and his wife spend all night searching for him. They finally find him and comfort him,
dad promises to get hi outmost mikitary. He talks with the commander and commander says that it is a
necessary draft., that there are already few enough people on the base so far but general promises that
the son will have a completely safe military job. Promises maybe son could work on. Locating others.
They talk to son and for once in forever the family feels whole. They actually go, sit down, and watch a
movie together.
Chapter 9
Spent 2 years on the base. They consider having another baby and in a couple weeks they go out into
the forest for the first time to have sex. When they finish,they are about to head back. They were only.
Supposed to be out to a certain time,but his wife wanted himto stay. Longer, which he reluctantly did.
Three soldiers come looking for them and hurriedly escort them back to base. However, they see that
there is a helicopter that is heading over the treetops, and lands somewhat far. Away from the base,
makes David wonder about it. However, he forgets about it as mostly I wife tells him she is pregnant.
He remembers though as his friends were telling conspiracy theories on the army. One friend actually
had one that was almost dead on, that the army was used by the aliens to track down other humans and
kill the,. Much easier. Make David suspicious and runs to his wife. They decide to runaway, but guards
won't let them leave, back on a yellow or something alet.
Chapter. 10
They are ushered back to their rooms. They decide that it is best to interrogate joe, see if he knows
what is happening, see if he can help or is on aliens side. They need to get a firearm but are not allowed
access, theirs was taken away when they first entered the base. The get their son to steal a firearm for
them. They meet joe and interrogate him at gunpoint and discover he is on their side. He is doubtful at
first, and goes to visit commander hesitantly. He and commander had actually been good friends and he

did not expect it. However, he brings a firearm. Commander hidingly admits that he was tempted by
the Aliens with wealth and a better earth. Joe tries to arrest him, and called in guards. Before guards
arrive. Commander points to a button and says that if he presses it a self destruct is activated. Guards
rush into the room but command turns the on joe. Joe is able to fight them off, gets cut on the face
though and when he turns an alarm went off and the commander was running down the hallway. An
alarm goes off signaling immediate return to underground bunker,,air raid. Joe tries shouting not to go
down there, but it was chaos. He has to avoid soldiers because General told them to capture him. He
escapes and runs to David's quarters, cares about David. Manages to get David wife and daughter. Want
to rescue bro but can't. David tries getting other to follow hi but can't. They run outside into the woods,
nobody stop them, and fireball erupts past them. Their son died.
Chapter 11
Joe can't believe how commander turned on them. Joe led them to a small guard area about a mile
outside of the base. He restock weaponry, food, and grabs a hummer. His plan is to drive to a small
outpost 30 miles away. It stopped responding a while ago, but may be intact and aliens may think
nobody will return. Then contact other people using the radio comm. immediately after they start
driving (quiet w electric engine) they come across a fallen ship. It was damaged in the battle and flew
in for a crash landing.. Joe wants to drive away, but David asserts that the information inside is too
important and forces joe to stop. The alien appears dead, but wakes up and is killed. They drag ship
behind hummer, but eventually hide it because ship becomes stuck. Explain why important, aliens
bomb own craft.msomehow after talking with family in bunker place, comes up with idea of time
travel. Original thought weaponIt appears that the bunker died of disease.
Chapter 12
They manage to clean the place with bleach. Describe place, smell. David mopes around, depressed for
the first time in forever again. Weight of sons death hits him, but he actually supports wife, doesn't let
weight show. Family friend talks to him, says that there is hope. There is an alien ship. The science that
David can do is amazing. No art is possible without a dance with death. While you can't travel back in
time, think what you can do with an alien ship. Has a dream where he hears that. Dream is: he sees
family again, they keep running and running I a city but they keep falling behind no matter what.
....Talks to family about his idea.
Chapter 13
Joe takes him seriously, although everybody else thought he has gone crazy. However David is very
determined for the first time in what feels like forever. He tells her to have faith.
Once saw thesis of faster than light engines. Think nukes can work because aliens don't have that tech.
They have a chance. Explains theory of how it would work. Also has theory that ship could support
life. Joe makes first base safe
base to make it safe. Water,weapons, food ect. Dave beginsnteaching daughter. They make a risky
mission to gather the ship. H explains how time work work. Finally convinces family. No art is
possible without a dance with death. Sees glimmer of hope, not for him, but daughter, and humanity.
Chapter 14 steal car, get alien spaceship.
They plan on how to get the alien ship back. Friend says that the most logical way would be somehow
to get a motorized vehicle. Joe says that's impossible, emp. David argues that emps dont destroy all
cars, only 60% or so of them. The ones along the highway were mostly crashed or blown up. Joe says
he knows several secret roads into the forest and towards the base. Most likely detect heat signatures.
Cover themselves with stuff to mask heat. Don't realize car generates heat. Only option is to steal a car
far away, otherwise may alert aliens to position. Alien chases after them, however blown up wit rocket

launcher. David forgot to mention he can create stuff like that. They realize heat error and cover the
engine and are able to drive back to base without a hitch.
Chapter 15 get stuff off base

Chapter 17 parting
time travel- (the alien technology somehow will aid him with this, I.e. New element the n, unique idea,
impossible tech). The time travel,is achieved with faster than light speed; relatively speaking, explain in
detail later. He later scavenged the ship that he hid; he only replaces the engine with something that
enables it to travel faster than light(the ship is a high-tech chassis-the aliens were quite similar to
humans and had similar life support systems). However, this takes 7 years of traveling to find parts and

4. what are chances that aliens with such extreme tech would trabel so far to colonize earth than use
tech to colonize other planets 1. would be destoyed far from earth, and would still damage earth
2. assuming it can be destroyed could turn harmless race into harmful intruders
