Feature ID: RAN1912

This feature enables MIMO operation with 64QAM modulation scheme resulting to a peak
rate of 42Mbps.
Benefits for the operator:
Using 64QAM on top of MIMO further increases the peak rates up to 42Mbps.
Functional description:
2x2 MIMO uses two transmit antennas at the BTS and two receive antennas at the UE.
MIMO has two operational modes. In dual stream mode two parallel data streams carry
different data. This allows two times higher peak bit rate compared to same case but
without MIMO. In single stream mode MIMO does not increase the peak rate. However it
improves the radio conditions for MIMO UEs, as UE can choose from four different
beams from the NodeB. The beams are created with a phase shift in the signal between
the two transmitting antennas.
HSDPA Rel8 terminal categories 19 and 20 support MIMO with 64QAM. For supporting
UEs, NodeB will use MIMO single stream mode in bad and average radio conditions.
With good radio conditions, NodeB will switch to dual stream mode. In extremely good
conditions dual stream mode is used together with 64QAM modulation, enabling the best
possible bit rates.
A Virtual Antenna Mapping (VAM) concept is utilised together with MIMO. This is done to
fully use the available Tx power from both power amplifiers in a sector where MIMO is
used, also for non-MIMO UE:s. VAM does not require support from the UEs. In a cell
where VAM is used the terminal will simply see a different kind of propagation channel
compared to the case where VAM is not used.

Feature ID: RAN1702

Frequency domain equalizer (FDE) is the most advanced receiver technology for high
data rates, offering better performance than traditional Rake receiver or derived X-Rake
receivers.
Benefits for the operator:

FDE is an enabler for high uplink data rates up to 11 Mbps with 16QAM. FDE reduces the
interference from multipath components of own signal. This is especially beneficial with
HSUPA with short spreading codes.
Functional description:
FDE is the same solution as in 3GPP LTE utilizing frequency domain equalization. FDE is simpler
compared to traditional time domain equalizer. It captures the energy from all multi paths and offers
robust performance in all channel conditions with up to 2x higher 16QAM data rate compared to
Rake receiver.
FDE efficiently removes inter-symbol interference arising from user's own signal due to multipath
propagation. Rake receiver is unable to receive high data rates even in total absence of other cell
interference, since the short spreading codes with high HSUPA data rates are vulnerable to intersymbol interference. FDE can remove the inter-symbol interference, leaving other users of the
same cell and surrounding cells to be the limiting factors for UL data rates.
Interference from own cell other users can be alleviated with RAN1308 HSUPA interference
cancellation. FDE and IC can be operated in the same cell at the same time.
Interdependencies between features:
In RU30, FDE is not supported with RAN1269 4-Way Diversity.
Hardware requirements:
This feature requires RAN1016/RAN1848: Flexi BTS Multimode System Module or RAN1671:
Enhanced UltraSite Base Band (EUBB)

HSUPA Interference Cancellation Receiver feature reduces the UL own cell interference with user
subgroup interference cancellation.
Benefits for the operator:
HSUPA Interference Cancellation enables higher HSUPA throughput especially in typical mixed
data and voice scenario. It allows high Ec/No for a high data rate 2ms HSUPA user while keeping
the noise rise within the planned limits. Cell coverage is therefore not compromised due to the EDCH 2ms TTI users.
Without IC even a single 2ms user either could not reach a high bit rate or would shrink the cell
easily by 6 dB beyond the planned minimum coverage. Note that IC reduces own cell other user
interference, while RAN1702 Frequency Domain Equalizer (FDE) reduces interference caused by
own signal in multipath channel.
Functional description:
HSUPA Interference Cancellation removes interference from 2ms TTI UEs from the other UEs. The
2ms TTI UEs are first received with a normal rake receiver or with FDE. Turbo decoding is
performed. The decoded data is then used to reconstruct the original signal, which is seen as
interference by other users. Reconstruction includes turbo encoding, spreading and modulation.
The reconstructed signal, i.e. interference for the other UEs, is subtracted from the original antenna
signal. As a result, the UEs received from the residual signal benefit from lower interference level.
As a result, coverage and capacity gains for the cell can be achieved.
The feature will be enhanced in RU30 On Top with RAN2250 Enhanced HSUPA IC such that the
IC is also able to cancel interference from 2ms TTI users from other 2ms TTI users.
Interdependencies between features:
RAN1269 4-Way Diversity is not supported.
Operational aspects:
Amount of cancelled power may be estimated to show the power of the algorithm.
Hardware requirements:
This feature requires RAN1016/RAN1848: Flexi BTS Multimode System Module or RAN1671:
Enhanced UltraSite Base Band (EUBB).

The figure above shows fully equipped Flexi Power Module (FPMA) with AC/DC converters (FPAA)
and Batteries (FPBA).
FPMA is the casing, AC and DC cable connector box and support frame for actual power submodules FPAA, FPBA and FPDA.
Flexi Power AC-DC Sub-Module (FPAA)
The main function of FPAA is to provide 48 V DC power from AC to be used by the BTS modules.
FPMA can house from one to three AC/DC rectifiers. Output power of each AC-DC rectifier is 1 kW.
Flexi Power Battery Sub-Module (FPBA)
FPBA is a separate optional sub-module to be used together with AC-DC Module (FPAA). FPMA
can house up to three Battery sub-modules.
Battery sub-module provides up to 10 minutes battery back-up time when the Flexi BTS site AC
power mains is down. FPBA is maintenance free Lithium Ion battery bringing significant savings in
operaover 10 years of Li-Ion battery life time.
