OUTLOOK
Gas hydratesice-like compounds containing methane
may become a significant energy resource if ways can be
found to exploit them.
Although many countries and organizations are finding gas
hydrates plentiful and widespread, the problem remains as to
how to produce methane from them safely, efficiently and
economically.

DEPRESSURIZATION OF GAS
HYDRATES
EXPERIMENTAL
PRODUCTION
Production time: 6 days
Average production rate: 20 000
cm/day
Cause of production closedown:
High Sand Cut
Time of industrial production:
2018-2019 (???)

OFFICIAL RESULTS
As the result, it was proven that the depressurization method is
able to dissociate methane hydrate more efficiently.
Therefore, it is planned to apply the depressurization method to
this offshore production test as well.
NEWS RELEASE Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National
Corporation (www.jogmec.go.jp)
The Mallik tests successfully demonstrated a field-scale proofof-concept for gas production from hydrates by
depressurization using conventional oilfield technologies
adapted for arctic conditions.

CONCLUSION
There are several possible methods of gas production
from gas hydrates
All of them are energy-intensive methods
