COSTRUCTION PROCEDURES

LAYOUT
1. Layout is the intial & essential stage of construction in which plot boundries are marked on
the ground with the help of layout drawing.
2. Firstly, the site boundries are marked with the help of white powder & the site area is tallyed
by the diagonal cross-check(by using Pythagoras theorem)
3. After the site is tallyed the Bamboo are tied along the boundries of the plot.with the help of
layout foundation map,the nails are hammer in opposite side of the bamboos.such that the nails
indicates the centre of coinciding coloumns.
4. The strings are tied to the coinciding nails in both the directions & the centers of thee of pite
coloumns are marked on the ground when the two strings intersects with each other.
5. With the help P.C.C. size the size of pit is marked on the ground for excavation. And pits are
excavated at require depth.

EXCAVATION
1. For the foundation the excavation was doen in the black cotton soil with the help of JCB
& mannualy.
2. Due to less shear strength of black cotton soil, the soil was unable to withstand over a stip
slope. so excavation was done anxiously.
3. The excavation of obout 6 deep was done with the help of JCB & then the excavation for
souling was done manually to save the time and cost.
4. Charges:JCB-700 Rs/hour.

SOULING
As hard strata was not found at considerable depth during primary examination of site so souling
was done.
SOULINGFirstly upto 1 ft black stone is filled then add coarse aggt & gritte & pour sufficient water
on it and compaction is done.
This forms a layer.Similar such layers are provided as per requirement and put a bed of concrete
on it.
Footing is erected on such a bed concrete.

FOUNDATION
As the hard strata was not available so the P.C.C bed was formed and the Box footing was used.
The footing consist of:
1.Lean Bed Concrete:
In order to get a hard foundation stata & same level the bed concreting is done.
The thickness of the bed concrete is about 100 mm and the length and breadth of bed depends on
the load coming on it.
2.Box footing:
The depth of the footing depends upon the load coming on it.
3.Stirrups:The rectangular stirrups of 6 mm dia steel rods were used in the foundation column.
At the bottom the first 6 nos stirrups are at 4 inch from each other & the above it at are at 5
from each other.

PLINTH

The plinth is the rise given to the building above the ground level. The height of the plinth
is decided on the basis of road height & the surrounding condititions. The site is situated
in the area where there is a problem of water logging and prevent contact of the building
with the logged water. The plinth ht of 2.4mt is provided.above the ground level..

PLINTH BEAM

The plinth beams are provided slightly above the ground level. The stirrups are placed at a
distance of 4 from each other at the supports and are widely spaced upto 6 at the middle
portion.
As the concreting of the beam is carried out at the ground level there are chances of water
absorption by the black cotton soil due to its property of absorption so in order to prevent
the direct contact of the concrete with the soil the plastic cover is provided during the
casting of the beam.
This plastic serves two main purposes.

1. Avoids direct contact of concrete with soil.

2. Prevents evaporation of the water from the concrete..

PLINTH WALL

The plinth wall were constructed about 2.4mt above the ground level. The brick wall was
constructed by using the 4*4*9 brick.
The Flemish bond was used for construction of plinth wall.

PLINTH FILLING

The plith filling was carried out with the help of Murrom & also with the excavated soil
itself.

DRAINAGE SYSTEM

Under ground drainage pattern is provided

Inspection chamber are provided
Cement pipes are provided for carring waste water
Slope of pipe is 1:30
Slope is maintained by providing bricks under it

ERECTION OF COLUMN

Column is erected by gridding its bars in footing column

The columns bars are bent out in order to erect it in same position in same dimensions

STARTER
Starter are the small depth form work used in columns so as to erect column accurately.
The starter is filled with concrete one day before filling the column
The starter is removed and then the form work is erected for casting columns.
Depth of starter =10cm

BRICK WALL MASONARY

A) Interior walls

width of the interior wall is

Brick used = 4 x 4 x 9

strcher bond is used

total height of wall is 3m,inorder to carry a load a R.C.C beam is provided at a distance
1.2m from floor level

150mm

Exterior walls
width of the Exterior wall is

230mm

Brick used = 4 x 6 x 9

strcher bond is used

total height of wall is 3m,as the flats are provided at each flight, the beam of pre flat comes
at center of post flat.

Elevators (Lift)

Dimensions of lift = 2m x 1.5m.

Reinforcing is done with 8mm & 12mm bars.

TEMPORARY WALL

The temporary wall is constructed at the extreme parts of the wall where there are
chances of failure of person.
The temporary walll are removed after all construction.

Stair Case Shuttering

12mm bars were used.

Griding Of Beams

Curtailment Bar

Curtailment Bar is the steel bar provided at the bottom of the beam at its centre .
When a load is applied on a beam the upper portion is in compression while lower one is
in tension.
Also the deflection is maximum at centre of the beam.
For this above reasons the Curtailment Bar is provided.

Shuttering Of Slab

One way slab

The bar starting from the beam are bent down at an angle of 45 degree at a length of
1/3rd of the length of the slab.
The bent bars runs in same direction and ends opposite beam.
If the Length to breadth ratio is more than 2 then,Two way slab is used.
In two way slab a single bar is bend on two ends.

Various Other materials Used

DR.fix it was used for making slab leakproof.

Ask-o-mix was used fast setting of concrete.

Vibrator was used for propercompaction of concrete

A half bag mixer was used for concrete mixing.

Faults Noticed

During the casting of foundation the concrete was being placed from very considerable
height ,which cause the segration of concrete and reduce its quality.

Inorder to avoid this thing we can place the concrete by constructing a temporary
pathway for carrying the concrete to its destination .The temporary pathway may be
constucted of formwork or of roofing sheets or manually carrying the concrete.

IMPROPER CONCRETING

There was no proper proportining of concreteing which hampers the strength and

stability of concrete.
Water should be added according to mix design .
Wherever possible machine mixing should be used rather than hand mixing.

Conclusion
1)On the site we study Time Management and its benefits in completion of the
work skillfully with maintaining its quality .
2)We seen proper reinforcement arrangement and concreting which increased our
interest in designing.
3)Market survey increased our practical knowledge in construction materials and
estimating and costing.
4)We observe how to maintain the speed of project by using manpower in proper
way.
