COURSE REQUIREMENTS
Primarily, this is a reading and discussion course. You are expected to attend all classes,
maintain the reading schedule, read thoroughly, and contribute significantly to the class by thoughtful
discussion. You are also expected to contribute by occasionally finding some outside material to add
to informal discussions, submit occasional reflection and response papers, and lead and participate in
group discussions. Group activities, individual research, film viewing and possibly book launches, will
also be utilized as alternative classes. Texts will be made available by email and at the assigned
photocopying station. Please read and study them. Bring your copies of the texts to class as
scheduled. There will be a quiz almost every meeting to check on whether you have read the assigned
text. Obviously, you cannot discuss the text that you have not read. Please note that there is No
Make-Up for missed quizzes, presentations, and other term projects. There will also be major
examinations, not all of which will be with paper and pen. Undocumented absences beyond the
allowable number of absences will lower your grade (excused only if documentation from a dean or
medical doctor is provided). You will be warned at the third absence and automatically receive a
grade of AF after the fourth absence. Any student caught in the act of cheating will be dropped from
the course. Plagiarists will automatically be given a grade of 0 or Fail on an activity or examination
and may be dropped from the course. Rules for attendance and tardiness in the Student Handbook
should be observed.
