CHARLES LLOBET BUSQUETS, was born in Lrida in 1857 and died in Barcelona in 1927.
This unpublished work of his which we ar presenting today has, in addition to that
singular beauty which its author knew how to create, that of a scrupulous exactness; as a matter of fact this work was produced after several journeys round Spain which were mostly
made at the end of the last century. On these journeys, the author collected the most characteristic data from each part of the country at a time when modern tastes had not yet begun
to mix themselves up with traditional customs; only in this way could it have been possible
to obtain the strong typical character which each composition bears.
The dance, the principal theme, danced to the sound of the proper instruments and by
people dressed in the typical costume of the region, is developed in the atmosphere of the
home, whether it be in the village, close to the tilled fields or to their produce, and has always a background of the most notable monument or place in the district. The action and
the pose of the people, sometimes graceful, sometimes melancholy, etc., reveal the sentiment;
the light completes the character of each matter. These details which are the most appropriate frame to the dance, enter the composition in such a way as, while being sufficiently
visible to serve as documents for reference, not to destroy the symmetry of the whole, but
rather contribute to the building up of the composition. This is, perhaps, the most difficult
aesthetic value to' be attained and which this work possesses. In each illustration there is besides the dance, a brief description and the coat of arms of the region, all of which is the
work of the same author.
1927 in Barcelona.
Gegend, was alles Werk desselben Verfassers ist.

The dance of the "huertanos" (market gardeners) is a variant of the JOTA and has
with it besides the name, great similarity; not so energetic as that of Aragon and
not so ceremonious as that of Navarra, it is gentler and merrier, the characteristic
condition of the children of the region of Valencia. (In the background: Torre
