Prayer for the Week

Lord we thank you for the strength you give us to get through tough, challenging and intense times;
please continue to fill us with your power
so that we can make what seems like a mess a message,
and what seems impossible possible.
Amen.

Headteachers Comments
Exams
Exams and revision continue to go well. I would like to congratulate all students for the way they have
conducted themselves so far. Please ensure that you maintain the highest standards in the time which
remains.

New school
I had a meeting this week which was the beginning of the process whereby we design our new school. It is
very early in the process but I am confident that we will emerge with a much improved building. I will keep
all students updated as much as I can.

Trips
Good luck to all students who are going off on trips this week. I know that you will represent English
Martyrs well and I expect, as usual, to receive many comments about your good conduct and participation.

Spelling of the week

Remember that conscience has science in it.

Puns of the week

I tried to catch some fog.
I mist.
When Chemists die, they Barium.
Jokes about German Sausage are the Wurst.
I know somebody who is addicted to brake fluid.
He says he can stop at any time.
How does Moses make his tea?
Hebrews it.

After a break for GCSE Exam revision, Chess Club returns to the library on Wednesdays from 3.15 to

after!
The tournament is open to all student chess players and will take place all day in St Anne's Hall on
Wednesday, June 24th. All competitors will play a series of games in the morning up to lunchtime - after
which the finalists will stay on to play their remaining matches - all leading to the knock-out stage and
culminating in the grand final! No chess clocks this time - you play until you win, lose or draw that
particular match. Don't worry if you lose your first match - you can try again in the next matches!
Medals will be presented to all the finalists - with trophies and prizes up for grabs for Best of Year as well
as the overall School Champion and Runner-up.
Entries are free of charge and open to all chess players, whatever your experience or ability. The school has
a lot of chess sets, but don't delay - places may be limited if demand is high. Contact Mr Edwards (Science
Lab 5) with your name and tutor group and book your place now!. Full details will follow once your place
has been confirmed. Good luck! Mr Edwards
