WELCOME TO OUR FIRST EDITION
The Highcroft HOA Board formed a communications
committee in response to your requests for more
information. Janine Lamb is the chairperson. The
committee has set two goals for this year – to create a
website for Highcroft residents and to develop a
community newsletter. The Highcroft website went live
earlier this year at highcroftcarync.blogspot.com.
We look forward to your feedback about the website to
ensure you are getting the right kind of information. The
second goal is in your hands, literally! The Highcroft
HIGHCROFT HURRICANE’S 5K FUN RUN SATURDAY, MAY 3
On Saturday, May 3, the Highcroft Hurricanes will be
sponsoring the 3rd Annual 5K Walk and Run. This event is
not only a fun race, but is the primary fund-raising event
for our neighborhood swim team. This year’s run is being
organized by Andy and Amy Hugo. New to this year’s race
is the Stroller and Clydesdale/Athena Divisions. The race
starts at 8:30 AM at the Highcroft Drive Elementary
School. The entry fee is $27 for the 5K or $17 for the 1-
mile Fun Run. Its not too late to sign up — check out
Active.com and enter “Highcroft” in the search to sign up.
There will also be race day registration available from 7-8
There will be police support and volunteer support for traffic control. For safety we ask that you please
park your car in your driveway or garage on Saturday morning during race time. Thank you!

Spring 2008 Volume 1, Issue 1
Breeze will be a newsletter for and about the residents. As
this is the first edition, we have done our best to present
interesting and timely information. Please email your
feedback to Janine at Janine.lamb@gmail.com.
In order to reduce printing costs, future newsletters will
be made available on the Highcroft website. If you would
like to receive a printed copy, please email Janine and be
sure to include your mailing address.
Contributions are welcome!
AM at the school. Trophies will be awarded for the overall
male and female winners. Awards will also be given for age
groups and the Stroller and Clydesdale/ Athena divisions.
Fun Run participants will receive ribbons. The event is
being presented by Bovenizer Orthodontics, a sponsor or
our swim team. We are still looking for people to help out
on race day. If you would like to volunteer, contact Andy
Hugo (andyhugo@yahoo.com). If you can’t volunteer, you
can still support the swim team and your neighbors by
coming outside during the race to cheer on the runners as
they pass by your house!
POOL OPENS MAY 17: NOTES FROM THE POOL COMMITTEE
The Highcroft Community Pool is set to open on
Saturday, May 17. The Pool Committee, chaired by Wilson
Farrell, has been hard at work to ensure we have a safe
2008 pool season. Wilson provided this update:
You will see quite a few changes at the pool this summer.
Hopefully each resident will have the opportunity to
review the new pool guidelines for the 2008 season. In it,
we outlined many of those changes, such as a new bulletin
board, a new front gate, and Ph controller pump. We are
also installing video cameras and motion sensing security
lights. The pool committee has also developed a set of
guidelines for using the pool. We tried very hard to
balance safety and hygiene concerns with the laid back
atmosphere that we have come to value. The important
thing is to have fun, and to do it in a safe respectful
manner. As before, we are a “self-monitored” pool,
meaning that everyone is responsible to make sure we

Coach Jennifer will be back to lead our Highcroft
Hurricane swim team to victory! Registration has already
started. If you have not yet registered, please visit
www.highcrofthurricanes.com or contact Jamie Dixon at
fatbgr@yahoo.com. All Highcroft residents between the
ages of 4 and 18 are eligible to join. Younger members will
need to be able to swim half the length of the pool (15
yards) on their own in order to compete. The swim team
will begin practice May 19. Practices will be scheduled for
Monday, Wednesday and Friday 4-7 PM and Saturdays
follow these guidelines.
We have placed a great deal of emphasis on hygiene at the
pool. We ask you to help ensure that 1) no one be
permitted to swim with a communicable disease and 2)
that children not potty trained use a swim diaper AND
plastic swim pants. Also, responding to incidents promptly
and properly can also help minimize downtime. Our rules
give instructions and will be posted at the pool.
We currently have a vacancy on our committee. If you are

If looking for swim lessons at our pool this summer, here
are two options to get you started:

from 8-10:30 AM. There will also be practices on
Tuesdays from 4-7 PM, but only until June 10. After that,
Tuesday will be Swim Meet nights. Home meets for the
Hurricanes are scheduled for June 17, July 1 and July 22. If
you have not been to a swim meet, take some time one of
these evenings and join in the excitement of watching our
kids compete. The kids do a great job and more
importantly, they have a lot of fun! And don’t worry about
dinner, there are concessions for sale. Profits benefit the
Hurricane Swim Team.
HIGHCROFT SOCIAL COMMITTEE
The Social Committee bids a fond farewell to Hilary
Palonsky, departing chairperson, and a big Highcroft
welcome to Michele Sallean our 2008 chairperson.
Michele tells us the Committee is planning for another
exciting year of neighborhood events. Remember that a
small portion of your HOA dues provides some of the
funding for the activities planned by the Social Committee.
The Spring Fling on April 19 was a great example of what
the committee does for our community.
Fun was had by all who attended Spring Fling 2008!
ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW BOARD
Brian Hassink is chairing the Architectural Review Board
(ARB) of the HOA. The ARB has been meeting the second
Monday of every month. One change to the ARB
guidelines is that Zoysia and Bermuda are now permitted
in addition to Fescue, but steps should be taken to contain
the spread of one grass type into a neighboring property
with a different grass type. This can be done through a
physical barrier, such as a mulch bed, and/or regular
maintenance. We’d like to remind residents that any
