Faculty Development Programs (Course Based)

All HOS / COS are requested to plan for Faculty Development Programs (Course Based) for
the forthcoming non teaching period i.e. June 1, 2015 to July 15, 2015.
1.

Objective: Faculty Development Programs shall be aimed at enhancing the quality of

teaching. Specifically, enabling the faculty to master state of the art developments in course
content and pedagogy.
2.

Criteria: FDP shall be based on one or more courses appearing in the curriculum of

the forthcoming academic term i.e. Autumn 2015-16, in which some sort of faculty
development is definitely required. FDP will be based on the syllabus of a particular course
and will cover the course holistically. FDPs will be planned for one or more of the following
types of courses:
I
II
III
IV
V

Courses critical for student placement

Courses which require a special pedagogy
Courses having atypical/unconventional syllabus
Courses in which student result is very poor
Any other course specific requirement

Courses critical for student placement: This category includes courses which are

the foundation of the program that the student is pursuing. Profound knowledge of these
courses is essential for performing well in the selection process stages viz. written test, group
discussion, personal interview. The Faculty Development Program will aim at how to teach
these courses with placement focus. E.g. C++ for Engineering programs, PEP courses etc.
II
Courses which require a special pedagogy : FDP will be required if a course
requires a special pedagogy e.g case based teaching of law courses , case based teaching of
Management courses, use of demonstration, animation, audiovisual and props for relating
concepts with their application in real life scenarios. During the FDP, the course will be
taught using the recommended pedagogy, rather than a discourse about the pedagogy
and its merits.
III
Courses having atypical/unconventional syllabus : FDP is required if the syllabus
of a course is such that its content is not easily available in the prescribed books, it has to be
searched from various sources or the content is novel, new developments in technology and
requires refreshment of knowledge.
IV
Courses in which student result is very poor: FDP is required in those courses in
which student result has been observed to be generally poor. The result data can be analyzed
across the sections and over a period of time. If it is felt that an alteration in teaching style
can lead to better result, then FDP will be aimed at modifying teaching style to attune with
students learning requirements.

3.

Duration of FDP: Minimum duration of FDP shall be 18 hrs. Session duration can

be either 1.5 hr per session or 2 hrs per session. Hence, a particular FDP will be completed in
a minimum of 12 sessions of 1.5 hrs each OR 9 sessions of 2 hrs each. Pl. DO NOT plan a
combination of 1.5 hr and 2 hr sessions.
4.
Appointment of Resource Persons : The Resource Persons for training programs
shall be topic experts from within the University or other Universities or professional fields.
Wherever internal expertise is available as Resource Person, the same shall be given
preference over external experts to provide opportunities for knowledge sharing and internal
growth. The external resource persons should be experts from reputed university
departments/autonomous establishments/industry designated at key positions. In the process
of searching for trainers, the government bodies offering similar training programs shall be
given the topmost priority ensuring that the topic of training is of relevance. External
resource person(s) can be invited for a particular FDP for a minimum of 1 day (6 hrs)
and a maximum of 3 days (18 hrs). However, if there is a requirement for longer
