Play video of NSA protest/Snowden switching between interview of Sebastiens father and
protest to set scene; we show Sebastiens father saying, Edward Snowden signed the same nondisclosure agreement that I did. So was he a traitor? I think yes. ISABEL and LEO standing
frozen out of the way in conversation. Handcuffs in back pocket. Video fades out and SEB comes
through door walks SLOWLY across stage, which will be in front of Promethean. ISABEL nudges
LEO, looks at SEB, look back at each other, runs to arrest SEB.
LEO: Edward Snowden, you're under arrest for treason.
ISABEL: You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be held against you
in a court of law.

PRISM: (clapping) Well done folks, let's hope if Edward Snowden ever gets arrested it will go as
smoothly as you portrayed here. Now let's stay focused with the task at hand.
SEB: Yes, senator, I'm glad you found our arrest scenario reenactment so realistic. Everyday, our
country is . .Are you done pretending to arrest me yet?...Back to what I was saying, our
country is being threatened by terrorism. With countless communication networks linking people
around the world, it only takes a click of a button to access the lives of others. A click of a button
and terrorists reign supreme. Stopping the terrorism: (everybody looks at audience) this is the
task at hand.
(All sit down)
JORDAN: We have all the major media companies - Google, Yahoo, Facebook, Youtube, Skype
- ready to reveal data about their users whenever we please. Technically, we need a permit, but
this is national security (smile and shrug,)
(Nervous laugh)
ISABEL: Through PRISM, we have stolen - (JORDAN glances over with criticizing glare) I
mean collected...yes, collected - information from innocent, unsuspecting American citizens.
Well until Edward Snowden ruined it for us.

PRISM: I will make it my duty to see that Snowden gets a timely and orderly arrest if he ever
sets foot on American soil.
SEB: Senator Prism, is this arrest scenario realistic? Will Snowden ever come back?
PRISM: Snowden will never come back. His arrest would certainly occur; not to mention he
might face the death penalty for treason!
LEO: It would wreak havoc throughout the country. If I were Edward Snowden I would wish I
didn't even exist.
ISABEL: I actually have been wondering. What wouldve happened if Edward Snowden never
existed, if the documents were never exposed, if Americans never knew the truth.
PRISM: Well, what truth is there to know? I dont understand what youre saying.
ISABEL: Try putting yourself in the shoes of American citizens! How do you think they feel
about being watched?
(LEO, SEB, and JORDAN mumble putting yourself in the Americans shoes? How can this be?
This is too radical! Americans can't have opinions! This is bad politics...etc)
PRISM: (Bangs fist against table to draw attention) Order? (Turning to ISABEL) I guess
Americans are not happy to be spied on but I don't get what the big deal is.
ISABEL: Well I'll show you the big deal! Do you mind being filmed?
PRISM: No, not at all, just tell me what I need to do.
(Switch to Live Filming ISABEL shines light and camera on MS.PRISMs face. PRISM plays on
phone. Camera follows PRISM, relays video to Promethean Board.)
SEB: Think to yourself; this very minute, are you being watched? There are security cameras all
around us; so ask yourself, what are those cameras there for? Ask yourself; are you sacrificing
your freedom for proclaimed security? Think to yourself; all of your classmates have cell phones,
and it only takes one push of a button to relay information to the WHOLE world. Nothing is a
secret anymore, the NSA knows more about you than even you do.
PRISM (pulls out giant cardboard phone): My phones being hacked! Help!
Senators look DRAMATICALLY at PRISM
Front Lights go out
Switch back to powerpoint 2nd slide (eye rolling clip)
(Everyone walks slowly in unison to front of stage a picks up flashlight. Eye rolling clip begins
on Promethean. Students step forward from line when speaking, flashlight aimed at face. If not
speaking, characters should have hands together with flashlight pointing down.)

LEO (flashlight on face): If youre not careful, theyll soon be knocking on your door.
ALL: (whispering) Knocking on your door...
ISABEL: (Flashlight on face) If you want to keep a secret, you must also hide it from yourself.
ALL: (whispering) to keep a secret you must hide it from yourself.
JORDAN: You think you're safe. You think you are an exception. Nobody is an exception.
ALL: (whispering) Nobody is an exception
SEB: (flashlight on face) Remember, big brother is watching.
ALL: (Whispering) Big brother is watching.
ALL: (Bangs table with fists, chants slowly at first but gets louder, Jordan head spinning ) Big
brother, big brother, big brother, big brother, big brother, big brother, big brother...
PRISM: STOP!!! (Lights go on. All heads turn to look at her) Who is big brother? What are you
talking about? Is he real?
(Everyone besides Prism walks over to table and puts flashlights down in center. Long pause
before ISABEL speaks, SLOWLY!!!)
ISABEL: (stays in spot and looks out at audience) Big brother is not real. He is pure fiction,
created by the NSA.
SEB : (pushes JORDAN back to original spot) The real rulers of America, are unknown, faceless
manipulators who, because they are not known, are able to wield power without let or hindrance
(sits)
LEO: (looks at JORDAN threateningly) People of America, you are being lied to. The NSA
doesn't serve the people, it serves itself. (sits)
PRISM: What do you mean America is being lied to? Is the National Security Administration
stealing America's phone calls and emails?
SEB: (takes a step to JORDAN) We are not at war with foreign nations. We are at war with
ourselves.
PRISM: I dont understand. How can the nation be at war with itself?
ISABEL: (Pushes JORDAN out the door) We are being made into obedient stupid slaves of the
NSA. Open your eyes. See the evil that is happening to you. The government spies on its own
citizens. Rise up. Take a stand. You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.

SEB: If you do nothing, drones will come next. Drones that go unnoticed while circling over
every city in America. After that, it'll be microchips implanted in people. This is reality; it may
not be 1984 anymore, but big brother sure is watching.
During seb monologue, everybody takes a seat on the floor stage left, except person who is going
to drum. When JORDAN enters, she gets everyones undivided attention.
Lights Turn Back on
JORDAN: (walks in, holding basket with baby) I adopted him from the shelter when he was only
1 year old. He's such a good boy. I love him and give him treats whenever he is obedient. When I
adopted him, the doctor gave him vaccines and put a tracker in him. The tracker was smaller than
a grain of sand and took less than a second to insert via hypodermic needle. Now the government
will never loose my son ( pulls out basket to reveal baby)
(JORDAN stands smiling at audience with baby. slowly, she comes out of her crazy state, places
the baby down, and gets her phone out)
3rd powerpoint slide (Phone beep)
MS. PRISM: Oh look. My phone is back under my control.
4th powerpoint slide (news clip of snowden returning).
Senators rush to view news clip and comment.
SENATORS: That's awful. He's so brave. There sure to be riots. This is bad politics. Will he be
convicted. Good for Snowden. Took him long enough.
Silence
ISABEL: Two years ago, we were watching the people, and now, the people are watching us.
SEB: Such a distrust between the politicians and the citizens! Doesnt this seem like science
fiction?
EVERYONE but JORDAN: Babies implanted with trackers! It sure seemed like science fiction
to us at first.
However, our research has shown us that this high degree of surveillance is true! Mass
surveillance is prevalent in every aspect of our daily lives. The government knows your Google
searches and who you text with.
PRISM: (Stands and looks out to the audience.) But what is it leading up to? Is all of this worth
it?
