FCWC First Impressions/Assimilation Group

April 28, 2008

Jack started the meeting with prayer. The meeting began at 5:40pm and Jack said
he would be addressing three issues: Process Issue, Content and deadlines.

PROCESS ISSUE: Jack said that we have to target for a open sharing, trust and
encouragement. If we don’t do that we will not build the church; we will stop right
here. The team is concerned that the issues that have come from our meetings and
surveys that our team feels uncomfortable sharing our opinions at this point. Jack
has said that this is vital to the process to be effective. Pastor Dave agrees that the
minutes need to be shared. The team needs to have full disclosure in its minutes.
That being said, Jack is okay with the team addressing our minutes as a team
instead of announcing the names of the person’s individual opinions. The two areas
of the most heated discussion by all churches are the children’s church/nursery and
the worship arts group.

The survey will be held during a church service and will be asked of all attendees.
The responses will address like a bulls eye. The focus group (25-35 age male) will
be the center of the bulls eye and the other responses will be the other rings of the
bulls eyes. In other words, while the focus group is important to the opinions and
decisions made we need to still consider those opinions on the outer rings. We
can’t forget those church attendees on these outer rings are who pay the church
bills.

The team members addressed the issue of our work being implemented and the
staff being held accountable. Jack said that he addressed this issue with the board
and said that the accountability structure must be designed and implemented to
include a goal structure that is addressed at least quarterly with all staff members.

CONTENT: The church needs to consider the hand off of first impressions to
assimilation. Our team needs to talk to the discipleship team so that we are not
overlapping efforts and work together on that hand off process.

Southeast Christian has studied first impressions and found that new attendees will
make a decision about what they think in the first 7 minutes of their visit with the
top two areas are the children’s area and the restrooms.

Jack said that we need to trust and value the intuitions of the team and feel free to
include this in our presentation to go along with the data collected by the team. He
says we need to get the viewpoint of mystery guests.

DEADLINES: The team is to submit their initial recommendations after our next
meeting. The strategic planning team (SPT) will then give feedback to the team on
our ideas. The team is to submit their survey questions by May 5. The questions
need to have objective answer options. The questions will be compiled and then
send out to the SPT by May 8. The SPT will give feedback on the survey by May 10.
Then Jack will revise the survey once more and return the second generation to the
SPT on May 12. Feedback is due to Jack on May 14 and final draft will come from
Jack on May 16. The survey will be passed out May 17 and 18 during the church
services. The team should expect to receive the feedback from survey by the first
week of June.

Our team will send Jack our second generation of recommendations for our
charrette on June 15 which will include the feedback from the SPT and the survey.
On June 22 from 6-8pm the charrette will be conducted where the entire church is
invited to dot vote their favorite ideas. A team will be created to develop the plans
for the charrette. Our team will then take the theme of the charrette and
implement it into the team’s presentation for the night. Following the charrette,
date TBA, the team will present their final recommendations to the SPT and then the
SPT will prepare their final recommendations of all the focus teams. The SPT and all
the focus teams will be invited to give the final presentation to the board; date TBA.

Jack would like for the team to consider in its recommendations the impact of the
following: budget, staff descriptions, LBA and committee structure, programming,
volunteer job descriptions.

Jack ended the meeting at 7:10 with prayer.

Respectfully Submitted,

Carma Parrish
