Set Up Instructions
Initial Setup of Classroom
Each workstation should be loaded with the Windows XP.
Installing PC Software
Install each of the following software packages on each classroom PC or create an install
image and replicate that image across all PCs. Please review the manufacturers
documentation for detailed installation instructions.
__ 1. Install Windows XP.
Be sure that you configure TCP/IP as necessary in your location. If you are using an
image, it will be necessary to assign a unique computer name and TCP/IP address
to each PC; as detailed in the next step.
__ 2. Set up each PC in the classroom with a computer name of AS2401 - AS24xx (where
xx is the number of PC's in the classroom); in the workgroup of System i.
The instructor PC will be AS2400 in workgroup System i.
__ 3. On each PC in the class, create the Windows user profiles AS2401 - AS24xx (where
xx is the number of PC's in the room) and a password of AS24PWD. All of these IDs
are defined as administrators. Students sign on with their individual ID at their
respective PC.
Set up the Instructor PC as userid of AS2400 and password AS24PWD. This user
ID is set up as an administrator as well.
__ 4. Install IBM System i Access for Windows.
Specify that you want Navigator (Full install) as well as 5250 Emulation when
prompted.
Download and install the latest service pack on each PC in the classroom. Get this
from the Web site:
http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/eserver/iseries/access/casp.html
__ 5. Add a System i connection in Navigator to provide connection to the class system:
Set Up Instructions
a.Right-click My Connections.
b.Select Connection to Servers => Add Connection.
c.On the Add connection panel, enter:
Server-host name (must be in the HOSTS table as the DNS) or the IP
address of the class System i system.
Description - Key in some descriptive information (that is, course code and
class number).
Environment - Leave the default of My Connections.
Then click Next.
d.On the Add connection - signon information panel, choose the option:
i.Use default userid AS24xx (where xx is the team number to be assigned for
this particular PC).
Then click Next.
e.In the next window, click Verify Connection. If this works fine, you are connected.
If not, expand the plus sign in front of the red "X" message listed and review the
information displayed. Usually the error lies in either your HOST name is not in
the HOSTS table or the IP address entered is not valid.
f.When the connection is successful, click Finish.
__ 6. Verify that Adobe Acrobat Reader is installed.
__ 7. Install the latest supported version of Internet Explorer.
__ 8. Install the Information Center.
When prompted, specify Client: Single Workstation and, on the following panel
that you want the files to Remain in the current location.
__ 9. On the Instructor PC only:
Instructor: Install Freelance for Windows.

again.
The following file is supplied in the course package:
System i Download:
Lab Version
The labs were created on IBM i 6.1 and have been tested on 6.1 systems only.
AS24V6 Save file on the WW Repository contains an System i Save File (*SAVF). This file
must be copied to any System i library (for example, QGPL). For detailed instructions to
upload this file on the System i, please see as246 labfiles.txt. Then restore AS24 library
from the AS24V6 Save File on the System i. Once the AS24 library has been restored, then
you will restore the AS24B library that stored in a save file in the AS24 library. The AS24
library contains everything needed for all lab exercises.
__ 1. Restore library AS24 to the lab exercise system:
RSTLIB SAVLIB(AS24) DEV(*SAVF) SAVF(QGPL/AS24V6)

__ 4. CHGCURLIB AS24
__ 5. ADDLIBLE AS24B
__ 6. Verify the correct version level of the course by running command VER.
You should see the following information: AS24 Edition 5, V6R1
__ 7. GO COURSE
__ 8. Select the option to set up the class.
__ 9. Note that there is an option on this menu to be run just prior to the problem
determination lab exercise. Use the Help key for that menu option to get detailed
instructions on preparation steps to be run by the instructor for Lab 12.
__ 10. The student profiles are named AS24xx, where xx is the team number.
The passwords will be the same for all students AS24PWD. Student passwords are
set to expired, so the students have to change their passwords after their initial sign
on.
__ 11. Profile AS2400 (password AS4INST) is reserved for the instructor. This profile has a
user classification of QSECOFR.
__ 12. Profile AS24GR is a group profile for the student profiles.
__ 13. Profile AS24ERIK and AS24MARIA are for use in the Problem Determination lab
exercise and are used by all student teams.
__ 14. Run the lab steps in Exercise Guide Appendix B to set up a WAS 6.1 Web server.
This server will be used as a class server. Use the number 99 as the team number.
This server will be used by the instructor during lecture; in case you want to demo
any of the materials being taught.
This server can also be used by the students when it is time to perform the lab
exercises that include instructions for Access for Web. Optionally, students can
V5.1
Lab Setup Guide
LSG
perform the steps in Appendix B if they want to set up their own individual WAS 6.1
Web server; in which case, then xx will be the team number that has been assigned
to that student team.
Note: The appendix also includes instructions on how to cleanup this server off of
the system at the end of the class. Perform the clean up steps before running the
class cleanup program. Be aware that the cleanup program will not remove or delete
these Web related projects off of the system. For those students who may choose to
optionally run this lab, ask them to clean up their student created servers at the end
of the week. It will help with the class, plus teach them the steps required to perform
the function.
__ 15. Be prepared with the information called for in Appendix A so that you can provide
this to the students on the first day of class, before they perform Exercise 1.
