1. Axial Design Capacity was determined by prototype testing in accordance with AS 1170.0:2002 and AS/NZS 4600:1996. The values have a capacity
factor of typical 0.9 and as such, are suitable for sizing the BraceLok system in seismic and non-seismic regions of Australia and New Zealand.
2. Connecting plates must be at least 10mm thick. Bolts can be fitted with threads in the shear planes.
3. 500PLUS REIDBAR is manufactured to AS/NZS 4671:2001 and has a yield stress (fy) of 500MPa and a tensile strength (fu) of 540MPa.

1. The above substitution table has been prepared by ensuring that the Design capacity of the BraceLok system is greater than or equal to, the
Design Capacity of the Bracing Rods with cut threads. The Design Capacity of Bracing Rods with cut threads has been determined in accordance with
AS 4100:1998 as follows: NT = min(0.9Agfy, 0.9x0.85Anfu, 0.8Asfu)
Where
Ag = An = nominal sectional area of unthreaded bracing rod
As = tensile stress area of a bolt as defined in AS 1275
fy = yield stress being 240 MPa for grade 4.6S and 300 MPa for grade 300
fu = tensile strength being 400 MPa for grade 4.6S and 440 MPa for grade 300
2. The above substitution table applies to application where the strength limit state governs. The advice of a structural engineer should be sort on the
use of this table.
3. All dimensions are nominal & subject to change without prior notice by the manufacturer.

Bracing System
Application Details
With BraceLok Bracing Rods the only fabrication
required to produce a completed bracing
member is to cut the bar to length. The product
is then simply assembled on site, using the
BraceLok end components, as part of the normal
steel erection process.

Bracing System
Installation Details
Step 1 Select a clear area to suit the full length of the bracing being
assembled. Screw on the BracekLok Fitting (with thread) at one end
of the bar.
Step 1
Position the end of the bar in the middle of the fittings adjustment
window to allow adjustment of overall bracing length in both
directions.
Threaded End BraceLok Fitting (with thread)
Step 2 Slide the BraceLok Fitting without thread onto the other end
of the bar. Position the end of the bar in the middle of the window of
the fitting.
Step 2
Step 3 Place the BraceLok Holding Collar inside the window of the
BraceLok Fitting, align the two flat surfaces inside the collar with the
flat sides on the bar, and slide the collar onto the bar.
Step 4 Place the BraceLok Locking Nut inside the window of the
BraceLok Fitting without thread and screw it onto the bar.
Step 3
Step 5 Align the tabs on the BraceLok Holding Collar with the slots
in the BraceLok Locking Nut and engage the two components.
Step 6 Lift the assembled bracing unit, and bolt into place.
Step 1
Step 4
A
A/100
Notes
1. Ensure any burrs are removed when the bar is cut to allow the bar
to run freely through the threaded components.
Step 5
2. If a coupler is used to join the bar, ensure the bar is always turned
clockwise into the coupler during both assembly and adjustment of
the bracing unit to length.
3. The overall length of the bracing unit can be adjusted by altering
the position of the holding collar and locking nut on the bar. Always
ensure however that the bar protrudes beyond the locking nut and
threaded end of the BraceLok Fitting.

2. If a coupler is used to join the bar, ensure the bar
is always turned clockwise into the coupler during
both assembly and adjustment of the bracing unit

Combined Actions
1) Design Load Capacities are applicable for pinned type base plates only where any induced bending moments are neglected
2) Ends of columns are assumed to be cold sawn so that axial compression is transmitted by bearing.
3) Base plate holes are 4 mm oversize as this has been shown to be most practical for typical installation and erection requirements.
2 washers may be used under anchoring nuts to satisfy the requirements of AS 4100 CI. 14.3.5.2.
4) Shear forces resisted by holding-down bolts have been limited to half the design load capacity of the bolts and linear interaction has
been assumed for combined tension and shear loads. This conservative approach reflects the lack of a clear consensus in current
research on shear in holding-down bolts.
5) Larger shear forces may be resisted by suitable shear keys, or recessing the base plate into the footing.
6) The design model is based on the model detailed in A.I.S.C. Design of Stuctural Connections Section 4.II - Column Base Plate Pinned Type Connection.
7) Design load capacities on column sections are based on the capacity of the web section only as the base plates are not detailed to
extend to the outer extremities of the flanges in both directions. This conservative approach is used throughout the design model
and yields design load capacities which exceed normal design requirements.
8) The yield line method of analysis given in the design model has been used exclusively for calculation of base plate tension capacities.

Equivalent Bracing Rods or Sections
As a design aid, tables have been included in this
brochure for the SpeediBolt BraceLok and DBracket
BraceLok products, to help designers substitute
SpeediBolt bracing systems for commonly used
bracing rod materials. The sizes of the equivalent
bracing rods shown in the substitution tables have
been determined from the requirements of the
AS 4100 Steel; Structures Standard, for threaded rods
with cut threads of either Grade 4.6 steel [with 240 MPa
yield strength, 400 MPa tensile strength] or Grade 300
steel [with 300 Mpa yield strength, 440 MPa tensile
strength].
It may be appropriate to substitute BraceLok or
DBracket BraceLok bracing systems for other
structural sections used for bracing. The following
chart provides additional information that can be
used by designers to compare the capacities of the
SpeediBolt bracing products with other commonly
used bracing sections.

Hyper ArmourMate
Hyper ArmourMate is the premium choice in slab armouring and is used in applications
where the concrete must withstand hard-wheeled, high-load traffic on a daily basis. It
is manufactured from high-quality, cold-rolled steel to provide superior protection. Use
the Hyper ArmourMate system when your concrete slab application requires the best
performance over the longest possible lifetime. Ideal for high performance FF and FL
level floors.
Gamma ArmourMate
Econo ArmourMate
Beta ArmourMate
Beta ArmourMate is a light system suitable for applications where the traffic is
expected to impose relatively light loads and impacts on the concrete slab joints. The
system is manufactured from galvanised sheet steel to provide a cost-effective solution.
