Final Thesis Statement:

Biochemical warfare is too dangerous to be a method used to fight wars so any member state of
the United Nations who is caught with chemical weapons shall be extracted from the UN permanently
to prevent this type of warfare.
Introduction:
[Short clip of the chemical attack on Halabja in 1988]
Do you hear that? Those are the screams of the thousands that died in the chemical attack on

Halabja in 1988. On that day, known as Bloody Friday, Iraqi troops dropped bombs that contained
mustard gas and the nerve agent sarin. These chemicals killed more than 5,000 people immediately
and more died later because of injuries. And most of the victims were women and children. Hi, my
name is Christien Ayers, and today I want to talk about the problem of biochemical warfare.
Biochemical warfare is a big problem I want to address because it is cruel, and very harmful. I am
talking about this, specifically, because I feel that when lives are lost that affects the whole
atmosphere around me and changes who I will be. Plus death is a horrible thing to be given to
someone too soon. So I think that biochemical warfare is too dangerous to be a method used to fight
wars so any member state of the United Nations who is caught with chemical weapons shall be
extracted from the UN permanently to prevent this type of warfare. Now to explain why this must be
so, I will talk about why biochemical warfare is very dangerous, how countries can use it for bad, and
the outcomes of biochemical warfare.
Outline:
I.

We All Agree That Biochemical Is Dangerous

A. One-Hundred Percent Agree

1. 8 out of 8 people (or 100% people) agreed that biochemical warfare is
extremely dangerous and it should be avoided anyway it can be.
B. Non-Peer Interview
1. My interviewee agreed that biochemical warfare is very dangerous and also
said that a country that has chemical weapons do not have positive intent.
C. Peer Interview
1. My peer interviewee also agreed that biochemical warfare is very dangerous
and said that countries that have chemical weapons should be removed from
the UN and forced to destroy their chemical weapons.
II.

There Are 5 Countries That (Have Been In Wars Since 2000) That Didnt Sign the CWC Treaty
A. The CWC Treaty
1. The CWC Treaty is the Chemical Warfare Convention Treaty that prevents
countries from developing chemical weapons and also forces countries to
destroy their chemical weapons to prevent chemical warfare.
2. This treaty was signed by all but five member states of the UN
B. The Five Defectors
1. Syria
2. North Korea
3. South Sudan
4. Angola
5. Egypt
6. These are all very dangerous countries now.
C. The Japan Times - News

III.

If You Decide To Not Sign It What Is Your Purpose?

A. These Things Are Weapons of Destruction
1. Can spread deadly diseases like smallpox and infect the masses in a small
amount of time.
2. Unlikely to kill a certain target: biochemical warfare is pretty much like nuclear
warfare as in it is used to kill large groups of beings.
B. Always Have Been Used To Kill
1. In September and October of 1984, 751 people were intentionally infected
with Salmonella, an agent that causes food poisoning, when followers of the
Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh contaminated restaurant salad bars in Oregon.

2. In 2001, anthrax was delivered by mail to U.S. media and government offices.
There were four deaths.

IV.

Effects of Biochemical Warfare

A. Scariest Biological/Biochemical Agents
1. Botulinum toxin
2. Pneumonic plague
3. Anthrax
4. Smallpox
a) A virus that is very contagious. It spreads very fast, and it kills people
fast. If you catch it you die in approximately two weeks.
B. Can Catch The Agents Easily
1. You can catch them through the air, through public water, and through food.
2. The scariest way to catch it is through the air. (It is the easiest way to catch
agents.)

Conclusion:
So in conclusion, biochemical warfare is too dangerous to be a method used to fight wars so

any country of the United Nations who is caught with chemical weapons must be removed from the
UN permanently to prevent biochemical warfare from ever occurring again. Biochemical warfare has
no good outcomes whatsoever, and even if a certain side won, the deaths would be so overwhelming
large then it wouldnt even matter. The effects of biochemical weapons are just horrible. No one
deserves to even have know that there is something out there such as diseases that can kill them in
less than three weeks. That is such a horrid thought. And if countries, even ones who dont sign the
treaties, like North Korea, possess chemical weapons, there is this thought in all of our minds. And
those countries need to be removed from a governing body than help make decisions. They should
have no authority and no place in the United Nation especially. This can save lives. You. Me.
Everyone. Please join in the fight to end biochemical warfare. We are defectors.
[Pause]
Thank you.
