Veera Episode 418 Screenplay

Sc 1 + 1a / nt/ int + ext/ hospital room + hospital backside/ veera, baldev ,

balwant, ratan, ranvi, gurpreet, panch, preetas kids, doctor, nurse +
sahukar, sahukars men
Defreeze.
We show veera, ratan, ranvi baldev and balwant entering the room and looking
frozen. We do a fast 180 degree pan and show preeta lying on the hospital bed,
asleep. (To signify their reactions, can we have Preeta slightly shivering, or
breathing heavily, basically their fear wouldn't make sense is she is lying still, they
haven't seen anyone rushing out of the room) Ratan goes to her and says, preeta...
are you okay? She goes closer. Preeta is not moving Gurpreet comes and says,
doctor said he gave her sleeping injection... she will wake up in the morning... ranvi
comes behind ratan and says, beeji... I think we should wait outside and let her
sleep. Ratan is looking at preeta warily. She isnt looking convinced. As the others
turn to leave Ratan doesnt move. She says, I dont know why I am feeling..and
before she can complete, Ranvi keeps a hand on her shoulder and says, it was just a
dream beeji... everything is fine here... you yourself can see... now lets go out and
let preeta rest... he puts his hand around ratans arms and makes her turn. Ratan is
frowning, takes some steps towards the door and then stops and turns back again
and shakes her head and says, ranvi puttar...can you go and get the doctor ... ek
baar check kar le te hai that everything is alrightGurpreet says, the doctor has
just checked her sometime back... ratan says, no ranvi... mera mann nahi maan
raha... just call the doctor once and let him check preeta... I wont be able to rest
until he says its all fine... ranvi looks unsure at veera. Balwant keeps his hand on
ranvis shoulder and says, ranvi puttar... just do it... if not for anything else then for
your mothers peace. Ranvi nods and leaves. We pan and show preeta and then pan
and show the window which looks unlocked.

Cut to

The sahukar and one of his man are standing below while the second one is
climbing down the pipe. The sahukar whisper, jaldi kar... if they see us here, we are
surely going to prison...... they all get down and leave, careful not to make any
noise.

Cut to

The doctor comes to preeta and looks at her and frowns and checks her pulse and
the ECG. He looks alarmed and says, how is this possible? Ratan asks, what
happened doctor? The doctor looks at the oxygen level and immediately screams
for the nurse.ratan asks, is everything ok doctordoctor doesnt answer her and
by this time the nurse comes in and he asks her whether she had checked the
oxygen level earlier in the night when her mask is removedthe nurse comes and
looks and becomes pale and says yeahit was normal.doctor again says, then
how on earth did this happen? The doctor and the nurse quickly get into
action.oxygen mask is put on.injection is given.the others in the room are
looking tense.veera is trying to ask something, ranvi is holding her hand and
asking her to keep quiet. And then doctor looks defeated and disappointed and
straightens up.here baldev asks the doctor, can you please tell us what has
happened now? Is there some problem with preeta now? The doctor looks at them
and says, well.yes. She has suffered from hypoxia... ratan says, what does that
mean? The doctor says, for a prolonged time, no oxygen entered her body......and
her brain.. veera says, butbut you have put the oxygen cylinder on her na? Abhi
toh woh theek ho jayegi? The doctor says, Im afraid the damage has been done.
Baldev says, what are you trying to say? The doctor says seriously, she has gone in
a coma... everyone is shocked. Gurpreet takes a few steps back in shock. Her back
against the wall, she breaks down into sobs. Ratan rushes to her and holds her and
says in a broken voice, preeta is a fighter... she will come out of it...she has
to..Baldev here says a bit aggressively, but hospital mein rehte how could this
happen? (When the doctor says that her pulse was normal when they last checked,
Baldev has to put two and two together and be cautious, he has to go and check the
windows saying - yahan par zaroor koi Aaya tha, we can't keep her alone any
minute now) The doctor says, we will try to ascertain that.and I must thank you all
for calling me.agar aur late ho jaata then she would have died. Veera is shell
shocked. The nurse tells everyone that they will have to leave now. baldev says, no
way. we cannot leave her alone for a single minute now... bahar baithe thhe phir
bhi aisa ho gaya..The doctor says, I understand what you are sayingbut it wasnt
any negligence on our partshe was stable when we last saw her.anyway from
now a nurse will stay with her in the room all the time. Ratan manages to get a hold
on herself and says, but she will wake up na? The doctor says, we certainly hope
so.but now I have to request you guys to leave the room. We will monitor her for a
while. Balwant nods and one by one, everyone leaves until veera is the only one in
the room. Veera has not spoken a word till now.now she looks at preeta, goes to
her and kneels down so that she is in her level. She says, Im sorry preeta parjai....
we shouldnt have left you alone... but you have to fight back... you tried to kill
yourself because you were alone and cornered... but now the entire pind is with
you... so now you have to fight this coma and come back... for your kids... for us
all... please... veera has tears in her eyes as she is saying this... she wipes them and

says, and as far as the sahukar is concerned, I will make sure he gets what he
deserves. We charge on her. She is getting angrier.

Sc 2/ int/ nt/ ranveera house hall/ veera, baldev, ranvi, ratan, balwant
We cut to veeras close up saying, we have to punish the sahukar... we cannot let
him get way. Veera is looking very hyper and pacing around the couch. Baldev,
balwant, and ranvi are sitting, looking at her. Balwant says, but puttar, no one is
saying that he should get away... were just saying we cannot do anything till preeta
gains consciousness. Veera says, but she is in a coma papaji... she might stay like
that for months... tab tak kya hum haath pe haath dhare baithe rahein? Ranvi says,
but veera, you heard the police... they themselves are waiting for a statement from
preeta... veera says, arrey but main de toh rahi hoon statement... I can swear in
court that he asked preeta parjai to compromise... isnt my word worth anything?
Ratan comes in holding a tray of coffee muhs. Passing it around says, but puttar,
the law needs proof. Otherwise its just your word against his na... veera says, but
Im telling the truth beeji... ratan says, you dont need to tell anyone in this room
that you are telling the truth veera... we know that... but you know the law doesnt
works like that... you need proof... and we dont have that... tu toh padhi likhi hai,
how can you not understand this? Veera looks very agitated and says, I know all
that beeji.but I just cant forget that somewhere it is my fault.... I saw the
sahukar demean preeta parjai... I saw her crying at the road side mandirbut I
didnt go and talk to her... I was feeling guilty that main bas baat karti rehti hun
kuchh kar nahi paati hun... maine socha ab kuch kar ke hi unse baat karoongi... I
didnt even think how shattered she must have been because of the incident... agar
maine unhe akela na chhoda hota... unhe samjhaya hota that this is not the end of
the road... toh this wouldnt have happened... and now I cant make her better but
the least I can do is get her justice. All look uneasy. Baldev is looking the most
guilty.woh veera se theek se aakh bhi nahi mila paa raha hai.Veera suddenly
looks at baldev and says, baldev? Startled, baldev looks at heras she has spoken
to him directly like this after long.veera now says, youre the sarpanch...police
chahe kuchh na bhi kare.. you can do something... your job is to make sure the
villagers get justice... you didnt give Preeta parjayi justice before but do it now.
Baldev looks in dilemma and Ranvi looking at his face understands and then says to
veera, but veera, even he needs more than your word to decide, warna toh sab yahi
kahenge na that he is favoring his wife... baldev looks at veera helplessly and says,
it really cant be done veera.... veera looks upset and says, isska matlab tu abhi
bhi kuchh nahi kar sakta? I am sorryobviously when preeta parjai herself told you
everything tab bhi tuney usska saath nahi diyajust because I was taking her
side.why will you do anything for her now. Baldev looks hurt.ratan says, puttar,
why are you bringing up all this now? Baldev has realized his mistakewe have to
pray now for preetas speedy recovery together. Veera nods her head and says, and
what if it takes months.years..no one will do anything till then? Till may be some

other person becomes a victim of that man?? And baldev, what if there is no proof
even then? Tu tab bhi kuchh nahi karega? Everyone looks uneasy.Balwant is about
to say something but before that baldev takes a deep breath, clenches his fist and
then comes to her and says, fine veera...this is what you want.then Ill do it. Ill
call for the panchayat tomorrow and aur phir waha I will give him
punishment.whatever punishment satisfies you veera.if you want me to break
his bonesI will do it.chahe usske baad main hi kyun na jail chala jayun. He
storms out of the hall.Ratan looks disturbed seeing him like that. (Please keep this
scene crisp)

Sc 3/ ext/ nt/ ranveera house aangan/ ratan, baldev

Ratan comes on the terrace and looks at someone with worry. We show from her
POV, baldev standing in a corner, looking thoughtful. Ratan goes to him. we see
baldev in the foreground and ratan in the background. Ratan says, I know whats
going on in your head puttar. Baldev turns and looks at her. He turns back and says,
really? Then please tell me too... because I am too confused... ratan smiles and
stands next to him. she says, you love veera... and already there is a lot of tension
between you two... you dont want it to increase by going against her... plus, you are
feeling guilty that you didnt help preeta in time and you want to do something for
her now... but you also know what we all were saying back there... and somewhere,
you know its true... its veeras word against the sahukars... and a fair panch will
never be able to take a decision on just that... so now you are conflicted about
whose side to take... the truth or the law... baldev laughs a humourless laugh and
says, truth or law... shouldnt they be together? On the same side? Ratan says,
ideally... but being a sarpanch teaches you that its not always the case... baldev
says, thats what makes it so hard... I know veera is telling the truth... but I am
supposed to forget the truth and look at the facts... baldev looks at ratan and says,
what should I do? Ratan puts her hand on his back and says, I cant tell you what to
do and wat not to. You are the sarpanch and not me on one hand, the fact that
the sahukar will not be punished boils my blood... on the other, if you do punish
him, your decision might be questioned and seen as you favouring your wife... but I
can give you one advice puttar... when you go to the panchayat tomorrow, forget
that veera is your wife... when in panchayat, you are the sarpanch... not anyones
husband or son... your only relationship is to the pind... your only duty is towards
the pind... nothing else matters... baldev says, but veera doesnt sees it that way...
if I let her down tomorrow, I dont think she will ever forgive me... ratan says, when
you were angry at veera, did you believe that you will never forgive her? You and
veera love each other... chahe kitne bhi jhagde hon, you two always come back to
each other... jab veera ka gussa shaant hoga, even she will come to you herself...
main samjhaungi usse... baldev says, I really do love veera... and thats why I have
another fear for tomorrow... ratan says, what? Baldev says, you know how the
sahukar is... I dont trust that man... he seems to be a very dicey man... if tomorrow

he says anything derogatory towards veera... toh mujhse bardasht nahi hoga... if
you all hadnt stopped me today, toh I would have beaten him unconscious for
calling veera a liar. Aur agar kal bhi usne aisa kuch kiya... ratan says, you will have
to control yourself puttar... as I said, tomorrow, you will be the sarpanch.... not
veeras husband... you must concentrate on taking the right decision and not
fighting for your wifes honour... and if you want to beat the sahukar, beat him with
law... question him, instead of breaking his bones try to break his story... find
loopholes... that is the only way preeta can get justice... and thats what tomorrow
is about... not veera and sahukar... but preeta... baldev nods.
Sc 4/ int/ nt/ sahukars godown/ sahukar, sahukars men
We show a few drinks being lifted from the table. The sahukar is with his two men
who at his adda. She drink the alcohol all at once. The sahukar keeps the glass back
on the table and says, aah... just what I needed after this shitty day... yeh saali
preeta ne naak mein dum kar diya hai... laakh koshish karo, marti hi nahi... what the
hell did I do to her? Paise diye the... wasool toh karunga hi na... and I just suggested
her another way of paying me... but she had to do this drama of suicide na! Khud
toh mari nahi... mujhe phasa diya... his man says, but boss, what do we do now?
She is in a coma... and we cant even go back now to the hospital or people will
suspect... the other man says, ab toh sala roz issi darr mein jeena padega ki woh
kahin theek na ho jaaye...... mujhe toh lagta hai time rehte yahan se bhaag jana
chahiye! The sahukar throws his glass in frustration. There is a loud noise of the
glass shattering. His men look at him in shock. He says, ab aisi do kaudi hi phatichar
auraton se darr ke rehna padega kya? I had it all set here..paise udhar main deta
hun..aur fasal bhi main hi bechta hun.i was inching towards controlling the lives
of these people completely..and now because of one woman I am trapped in this
mess! No way his man says, but what will you do? The sahukar looks determined
and says, ab bahut ho chukka... now, this whole drama will come to an end
tomorrow itself (Before Sahukaar says that this drama will end today itself, let's
please show that some sidekick comes with the news that he has been summoned
to the panchayat tomorrow morning, then the frustrated Sahukaar says that it's not
going to work like this, I will end all this crap tomorrow, so that audiences know
something major is happening in tomorrow's panchayat).. we charge on his sly
face... as to what is he planning

Time lapse

Sc 5/ int/ nt/ hospital corridor + hospital room/ baldev, gurpreet, preetas

kids, nurse

Show exterior shot of hospital. Cut to we show someones feet walking. Pull back
and see its baldev walking through the hospital corridor. We show him walking from
someones POV. Baldev is walking, looking disturbed when he suddenly stops and
frowns as though he suspects something. He turns suddenly and from his POV we
show there is no one there. He looks suspisciously and then, frowning, turns back
and goes towards preetas room. Gurpreet is asleep with preetas kids outside the
room. He enters the room and sees preeta lying on the bed, unconscious. He looks
at her and looks guilty and pained. He walks closer to her and says, sounding
emotional, I couldnt help when you came to me. Because of sheer selfish reasons.
Tomorrow, will I be able to give you justice? Please wake up.please tell me what
would you like? We cut to serene face of preeta. Baldev wipes his tears and says,
and even if I give the sahukar punishment, what about me? Even I need to be
punished na? Who will do that if you dont wake up? He wipes his tears again, and
then as if conscious for the first time..looks around and frowns and thinks, why is
there no nurse with her? He gets out and sees a nurse coming towards the room. He
says, where were you sister? Why was preeta parjai left unattended? The nurse
says, I had just gone to drink some water... baldev says, please... do not leave her
alone... inko kuch nahi hona chahiye..... we cannot risk that... the nurse nods and
says, I will keep that in mind... we again show the POV of someone watching
baldev... baldev tells the nurse, if anything happens... give me a call first he takes
out a paper and writes his number on it and gives it to the nurse. The nurse nods
and goes inside. He is about to leave when he sees preetas kids sleeping. Their
heads resting on gurpreets lap. The look very innocent and there are tear stains on
their face. Fresh tears comes his eyes seeing themhis face almost contorts and he
rushes out of there.

Transition to Day
Sc 6/ int/ day/ baldev house guest room/ geet, deepu, taiji
Geet enters her room and stops, looking surprised. We see deepu dancing on her
bed, singing the same song geet sang with ranvi on stage. Geet stands at the door
watching deepu with a smile. Deepu sees geet and runs and hugs her. Geet says,
are waah deepu... even you want to be a singer kya? Deepu says, yes... just like
you... geet says, accha? Deepu says, yes... you sang so well...... and sabu... I toh am
his fan... I can listen to him all day! Geet says, yes... he is a great singer... deepu
says, did my father sing too? Was he a good singer? Im sure you used to sing with
him all the time! Geet becomes speechless. Deepu asks, tell me naa... was papaji a
singer too? Or is sabu better than papaji? Just then, a voice comes, what are you
telling deepu? Geet looks and sees taiji entering... she says, kuch nahi beeji... deepu
toh aise hi... taiji says, tu toh aaj kal sab chupati hai mujhse... but kids dont lie...
tell me deepu... do you like ranvi? Deepu says, yes... sabu is the best... Manjeet
asks, really? Deepu says, yes. Taiji says, good enough to be your father? Geet looks

shocked and says, beeji... what are you saying? Bacchii ko aisi baatein sikhate hain
kya? Manjeet says, main nahi sikha rahi... Im just trying to find out what you are
teaching her... geet says, why will I ever say anything like that to deepu? Ranvijayji
is like my guru .Taiji says, rehne de...(mimics) guru??? One young man and a
young woman are spending so much time togetherdont I know what is going on?
And you have started defying me..deepu is comparing him with my son..what
the hell is going on... geet says looking disgusted and pained, no manjeet beeji...
theres nothing like that... you are misunderstanding... manjeet says, I will decide
that... tell me deepu... does your beeji asks you to call ranvi papaji? Deepu is
shocked. Manjeet says, bata mujhe... bol... geet starts crying and says, please
manjeet beeji... Im begging you... dont put such ideas in her head... manjeet says,
sikha main nahi tu rahi hai... I know everything... tell me deepu... your beeji tells
you that ranvi is better than my son? She tells you to call him papa? Deepu looks
confusedshe sees geet crying and shakes her head in a no and saying, nahi dadi...
she runs away from the room. Manjeet watches her go with a hard look And tells

She says apne baldev se shadi karne ke liye nahi kaha tha uski hansti kheilti
zindage barbad karne ke liye kaha tha ek shadi shuda admin ki zindagee barbad
karke uske sath shadi rachane ke liye kaha tha
Parjayee tali bajati hai .. vah .. bazar ,mein ja karr ddo gane kaya gane lagi .. you
have the gutts to back answer me???

Sc 7/ ext/ day/ village chaupal/ baldev, veera, ratan, balwant, ranvi,
sahukar, sahukars men, villagers
We see the panchayat is set and the villagers are sitting around the chaupal and the
panch are sitting in front. The sahukar is there and so is veera with ratan and ranvi.
Baldev comes there with balwant. The moment baldev comes, he sees the tree from
where preeta was hanging and sees a flash of her hanging... he looks very
disturbed. He joins the panch while balwant joins veera and her family. baldev says,
what happened yesterday, was a shameful thing... such things do not happen in our

pind... and the alleged reason for it is even more shameful... baldev looks at ratan
who nods encouragingly. He says, but we are here to make sure that justice is
done... to preeta... so now, I will call veera to testify what she saw and then the
sahukar to defend himself... I will be cross questioning both of them myself... baldev
looks at the sahukar and says, and any detection of a lie in your story, will go badly
against you... what happened to preeta was very bad, but the culprit will be
punished in a much worse way... veera is looking confident and determined. Baldev
says, so veera... you may tell us what you saw... veera nods, comes in front and
starts talking and we have quick flashes of the scene between preeta and the
sahukar. In the end, veera says, today, womens safety is being compromised all
over... I used to take pride in the fact that at least in our pind, the women were
respected and safe... but men like him show that a bad apple can grow on any
tree... and if such people are not punished, their courage will only grow further. She
gives the sahukar one loathsome look and backs away. Baldev looks at the sahukar
and says calmly, so, what do you have to say in your defence? The sahukar comes
in front, looking very sober and says, nothing. Everyone is shocked. Baldev says,
what? The sahukar says, looking very sorry... nothing... I am not here to defend
myself but to apologise... veera looks shocked and says, apology? After what you
did... baldev interrupts her and says, let him talk veera... veera goes silent and the
sahukar says, when I heard that preeta had gone into coma... and I saw her kids so
sad, I realised what I had done... yes. Everything veera said is true... I was drunk
that day and lost control of what I was saying..preeta came thereaur maine bina
soche samjhe keh diya.i was not thinking straight. Veera is looking at him in
disbelief. Sahukaar continues, last night, in front of the police, I panicked... but I
have lied enough... I do not wish to be pardoned, but punished... maine jo harkat ki
hai, woh itni ghatiya hai ki whatever punishment you give me, I will take it... I will
never forgive myself for what I did... I cannot take it back... but I can pay for what I
did... so please... punish me... if preeta was awake, I would have touched her feet
and apologised... but she isnt... so only you can do justice to me... Everyone is
shocked to hear this. But the sahukar says it so convincingly and emotionally that
the villagers, panch and baldev believe him... veera is still not convinced. She says,
no baldev... he is lying... this is all an act so you will go soft on him... do not believe
him...I never thought he was inebriated when I met him. Baldev says patiently,
veera... you wanted him to be found guilty, he himself accepted his crime... now its
upto me to decide his punishment... veera says, but his punishment... baldev says,
will be something that benefits preeta parjai... he looks at the sahukar and says,
because of you preeta parjai is in a coma and her family has no money. So it is your
job to look after them now... you will give her her land back and take care of her
family financially. The kids education and expenses will be paid for by you... along
with her treatment. The sahukar nods and says, I will... I will make sure that all her
familys troubles are over... veera is shocked and says, bas? He will just throw
money at the preetas family and his troubles would be over? Just because he has
the money to throw? Baldevhe has confessed his crime.hand him over to the
police.let him rot in jail. Everyone looks at baldev.he comes to veera and says

softly, veera, I can do that.but it is only because he is confessing, and that too to
us. What if he retracts his confession in front of the police? What if he doesnt
confess in court? What do we do then? May be he wont get punished onlymay be
the case will drag for years on courtand he will be out on bail, and we will be just
waiting for preeta parjai to wake up. Will that be justice? Here Im giving the person
who wronged her family a chance to right things..I know I can also take care of
their family and the medical expensesbut preeta never wanted charitybut may
be she would have agreed to this mans effort at redemption instead? Veera says
angrily, when I think of what preeta parjayis condition is now.and then I look at
that man.noI dont think this is enough. Ratan here comes to veera and holds
her arm and says, veera... no... baldevs decision is fair and helps preeta more than
anything else... and we need to think of her right now... veera looks at ratan and
baldev with frustration and walks off from there. Baldev sees her go and then looks
at ratan helplessly. She gives him a you did good look.

Sc 8/ int/ day/ sahukars den/ sahukar, sahukars men, taiji

Saukaar enters his adda followed by his men. The moment they enter, the men say,
boss, what happened to you? just a few hours back, we were trying to kill preeta
and now you accepted everything in front of the panch? When did this change of
heart happen? Why? Pehle ka paisa nikla nahi ki you have committed on spending
much more on that woman and her family? Another man says, yeah. we could
have taken care of preeta soon... so why did you do this? sahuhar sighs and nods
his head and says, waqt aane pe batuyunga.now leave.im waiting for someone.
The men look at each other, confused.... they leave. Sahukar takes another sip from
a bottle of whiskey. Just then, we hear clapping sounds. He becomes alert and sees
in the direction of the sound. Its coming from the main door. We see a womans
backlit silhouette walking towards him. he squints his eyes to see who it is. from his
POV we see the woman coming closer and reveal its taiji, looking at him with a
smile. Sahukar says, you... good... I thought kahin veera toh nahi aa gayi.agar
woh yahan bhi aa jaati na toh ma kasam main aaj usse... taiji says, relax... forget
about her..so, I heard everything went well at the panchayat? The sahukar
smiles and says, yes... and all thanks to you... I had other ideas to get out of this
mess.but what you suggested, was ever better.. Taiji smiles with an intrigue on
her face. We charge on her.
