Design and development of Voriconazole Topical Nanoemulsion drug delivery systems.

Voriconazole is widely used in fungal infections. Owing to its poor solubility, the present research
work was aimed to develop Voriconazole topical nanoemulsion formulation. Surfactant and cosurfactant mixture (Smix) were taken at different volume ratios ranging from 1:9 to 9:1. S mix for each
oil viz., 1:1, 1:2, 2:1 were selected from the results obtained by aqueous titration method. From the
plots, two points were selected for each ratio and nanoemulsions were prepared by sonication
method. The prepared nanoemulsions were evaluated for droplet size measurement, pH, viscosity,
drug content, in-vitro diffusion and skin irritation test. Skin irritation test was also performed and it
has shown positive results. The optimized formulation (I3) was characterized for Transmission
Electron Microscopy (TEM). It can be concluded from the research that voriconazole can be
formulated into nanoemulsions with enhanced solubility and bioavailability.
