Principles of the AIESEC Experience

These are the five principles which should guide people through their individual AIESEC
Experience. Everyone who joins AIESEC & embarks on an AIESEC Experience should have them
in mind before joining AIESEC and also during the actual experience. Living these principles
would make sure that people are making the most out of their experience in AIESEC.
1. Take an active role in your learning and the learning of others
No one can teach you anything that you do not want to learn. You are in charge of creating
the learning opportunities for yourself. Help others learn more by playing an active role in
their learning.
Why is it important to the outcome of the Learning Process?
Our education system teaches us to be passive towards learning (take what is given)
The world is dynamic & changing very fast and one must always be proactively
learning
It is the only way people will be really committed to the process
2. Challenge your worldview
All new information is interpreted by you through your current worldview, which is shaped by
your past experiences, emotions, attitudes, values. It affects what & how you learn; what
you direct your attention and action to in different situations. Challenge yourself to look at
things from a different perspective & observe the connection between these elements, your
actions and results.
Why is it important to the outcome of the Learning Process?
It is not sufficient to be aware of the problems of the world to achieve change, you must also
understand the causes and possible solutions and this requires thinking about and
understanding many different points of view. It requires skills, confidence and shaking
experiences to build a worldview oriented towards positive changes.
3. Meta-cognition and regular personal reflection
Build your capacity to recognize and evaluate your own thoughts, values, emotions, motives,
goals and actions. Your goals are a manifestation of your vision & help in making sure that
your day to day actions are driving you in the desired direction. Regular goal setting, review
& reflection would help you in understanding your personal leadership path.
Why is it important to the process?
These skills allow someone to really take advantage of the AIESEC experience, since
it allows them to analyze their actions and those of others.
Facilitates the creation and completion of goals
Facilitates the creation of values and the will to follow them

4. Increase Practical and Theoretical Knowledge

Take opportunities to learn more about your area of interest and create opportunities to
actually put your learning into practical application, for personal and professional skill
development.
Why is it important to the outcome of the learning process?
With more skills, one increases the capacity to have an impact in the world
Fills a flaw in our education system in which most students do not have the
opportunity to gain real practical experience
Learning increases when there is an opportunity to apply and put into practice what
you have learned in theory
5. Create a Network of Contacts
Constantly work at finding & connecting with a group of like-minded people, who you can
share your ideas & perspectives with and who are interested in seeing you make the change
you want to see in the world.
Why is it important to the outcome of the AIESEC Learning Process?
Because your contacts & networks from all over the world, increases your ability to bring
about the desired change that you want to see in the world
