Native Employment Officer (Reposting) Sipeknekatik Band
Purpose of the Position
The Native Employment Officer (NEO) is responsible for providing career and
employment counseling to facilitate and promote employment opportunities for
Aboriginal clients.
Scope
The Native Employment Officer reports to the Director of Operations and is responsible
for facilitating employment initiatives, providing needs assessment and career
counseling. The NEO identifies employment opportunities, secures funding for
employment activities and programs and ensures compliance with employment programs
of the sub-agreement with Mikmaq Employment and Training Secretariat (METS).
The Native Employment Officer provides services that will increase the employability
skills of clients and reduce their dependence on social assistance programs. The NEO
also provides access to employment opportunities that improves the overall well being of
Aboriginal clients.
Responsibilities
Assists Aboriginal clients with job preparation and job search activities.
Identifies employment opportunities for clients.
Facilitates local employment opportunities with major industries.
Complete administrative functions to ensure the employment program is in
compliance with the METS sub-agreement.
Possess a valid drivers license.
Perform other related duties as required.

Knowledge of METS employment programs, policies and forms
Regional employment opportunities

Case Management System used by METS

assistance for clients in areas of training and development

Basic accounting and budgeting skills
Computer skills in standard office suite software (i.e. Microsoft Office, email) and
other computer-related equipment

Prepare reports and documents
Create and maintain case management files

The Native Employment Officer must maintain strict confidentiality in performing the
duties of the position.
The NEO must also demonstrate the following attributes:
