Abstract:
This lecture will provide a comprehensive overview of the network
architecture evolution towards 5G and will elaborate on the application
of Cloud Technology and on the leveraging into operator networks of
Network Functions Virtualisation (NFV) and Software Defined Networks
(SDN) concepts for supporting the diversity of 5G use cases and
meeting their set forth effectiveness- and efficiency-gains. An overview
of the main standardization activities (3GPP, ETSI NFV, IETF, ONF,
etc.) and their roadmaps will be given. The lecture concludes with the
presentation of the Open5GCore, OpenSDNCore software toolkits and
of the 5G Berlin 5G Berlin Testbed experimentation platforms of
Fraunhofer FOKUS / TU Berlin, as enablers for 5G R&D and academic
teaching activities.
