Area of Research: Employee Behavior

Title of the Thesis:
Employee Behavior and its impact on the
Organization’s Culture and objectives- An empirical
analysis based on employee perception.

Research Objective:
The objective of the research is to study the change in employee behavior and approach
and how this change has an impact on the organization culture & environment. Dealing
with employees is an important management function and a key responsibility of both
management and human resources staff. Successful managers and HR staff can diagnose,
evaluate and solve employee problems.

Most organizations have some difficult employees - including problem managers. A good
manager can help a problem employee develop adequate skills, transfer to another
location, find professional help, or get appropriate coaching. Difficult managers may
require mentorship or relocation.

Most employee problems involve attitude or performance. The motivation behind many
employee problems includes the systemic relationship structure of employees,
management and culture. Few employees choose or want to be perceived as difficult or
aggressive by their colleagues, human resources or management staff.

Introduction to the Area of Research:

Leading organizations understand that their workforces are increasingly becoming their
most powerful, and unique, source of competitive advantage. They recognize that their
people choose each day, through virtually every action or decision, to invest or withhold
their time, knowledge, creativity and energy.
And they know that the only way to ensure their workforce makes these critical
investments is to put people at the center of their business model.

 Leading organizations build a workforce strategy from their business strategy.

 They implement that workforce strategy with the same rigor they apply to
financial or operating strategies — using sophisticated research about their
workforces to develop pivotal insights that drive better business investments and
decisions.
 They align their business processes with their people processes across the
employment life cycle, from the way they recruit and deploy employees to the
way they develop, engage and reward them. Through it all, they tap consistently
into the minds, emotions and behaviors of their people to guide their actions.
 The outcome? An environment that informs and sustains the behavior, skill,
engagement and focus they need from every individual at every level in the
organization, from top leadership to frontline managers, from customer-facing
staff to everyone who contributes to delivering superior value to markets day in
and day out.

Scope of the Study:

The scope of the study is to develop and estimate a dynamic model of employee behavior
in within the organization:

o Organizational values
o Strategy alignment
o Diversity and inclusion
o Reward/benefit effectiveness
o Communication effectiveness
o HR constituent satisfaction
o IT/internal customer satisfaction

o Expatriate adjustment
o Safety culture/process safety
o Innovation culture
o Ethical culture
o High-potential engagement
o Health care consumerism

Research Methodology:
Though the primary objective of the study will be, to understand the attitude of employee
towards concept of interpersonal relationship and organization’s culture and objectives
and its impact on corporate brand image and sales so descriptive research design is most
suitable.

Descriptive research design will be applied to the study to portray the characteristics of a
group or individual as a situation. It would include surveys and fact finding enquiries of
different kinds. The purpose of descriptive research is description of the state of affairs as
it exists at present.

Justification for choosing the Topic:

The previous studies have largely focused on literature that used data to study employee
behavior. But for the most part, the literature has relied on static models of employee
behavior, in the sense that employees make decisions to maximize current period utility.
Whereas this study would have elements related to the futuristic behavior model
constructed for the organization because the study has element of employee perception
which is a forward looking concept.

This research would help to develop a linkage analysis, which quantifies the impact that
employee attitudes and behaviors have on a range of corporate goals, and identifies the
changes in behaviors necessary to drive improvements in such areas as customer
satisfaction and financial performance.
