Instructions
Instructor: Emphasize that students should not check the completed box at the end of each part. This is
for the instructor to check off, or initial, when work is completed. The skill part of the test is pass or fail, so
each student must complete all parts to pass. Documentation should be evaluated based on quality of
information provided by the student. The documentation may be presented in any method, such as word
document, PowerPoint presentation, and so on.
In this SBA, you will configure Windows for specific tasks. As you work through the SBA, you are required
to document the work you do and provide evidence of successfully completing each task. One of the most
important skills required by any computer technician is the ability to clearly document their work.
The documentation may include the following information: title and description of what will be completed;
details of steps taken to complete tasks; screen shots of properly configured settings, and an explanation
about tasks that you could not complete.
The instructor will provide all additional information required to successfully complete this exam.

Note: For this SBA, notify the instructor after completing Part 2.

Recommended Equipment

A computer with Windows 7, Vista, or XP


Materials to document completed skills: word processor, pencil, paper, and USB Flash drive

Part 1: Configure Windows


Instructor: Inform student if not all tasks are to be completed. Evaluate Windows configuration. For
example: documentation includes information about the configuration setting; clear instruction and screen
shots explaining how to setup: Startup folder, Windows Easy Transfer or Files and Settings Transfer
Wizard, custom virtual memory settings, keyboard input language, and Windows CLI commands; and
reason for not complete certain tasks.
This section tests the knowledge of how to configure Windows for specific tasks. Perform the tasks listed
below. Notify the instructor after the tasks have been completed.

1. Log on to the computer as an administrator.

2. Place a shortcut of Notepad in Windows Startup folder.


a. Use Windows CLI commands to display the folders attribute.
b. Restart Windows.
3. Create a Notepad file called DataMigration and save it to the Documents folder.
4. For Windows 7 and Vista, use Windows Easy Transfer and perform a customized transfer of the
Documents folder to a Flash drive.
5. For Windows XP, use Files and Settings Transfer Wizard and perform a customized transfer of the
Documents folder to a Flash drive.
6. Create a custom size virtual memory for drive C:.
a. Initial size: 1024 MB
b. Maximum size: 2048 MB
7. Add a second keyboard input language.
a. Select a language of your choice.
8. Create a folder Called Attribute and save it to the Desktop.
a. Use Windows CLI commands to display the folders attribute.

Part 2: Documentation
This section tests the knowledge of how to clearly document your work.

Tasks
1. After you have finished documenting all the tasks, undo any configuration changes and delete all files
and folders created.
2. Call the instructor over when all work is completed.
