An Evening of Recovery
A Recovery Month Event
Keynote Speaker Announced!

IT'S OFFICIAL!!!!! Our Keynote Speaker for this year's Recovery Month event, "An
Evening of Recovery" will be Marti MacGibbon, with her presentation "Resilience,
Recovery and the Power of Gratitude"! This years event will take place on September
10th, 2015 from 5:30pm-8pm at 112 S. 17th Street Parsons. (See flyer for more details)
Marti MacGibbon, ACRPS, CADC-II, is a certified addiction treatment professional, standup comic, inspirational
speaker, and member of the National Speakers Association. Investor's Business Daily and Entrepreneur have interviewed her, and articles she wrote have appeared in over
100 magazines. She resides in Indianapolis and the San
Francisco area, alternately.
She has recovered from and triumphed over nightmare experiences such as being trafficked to Tokyo and held prisoner by Japanese organized crime, homelessness, and hardcore drug addiction. Today, shes a member of the National
Speakers Association, an inspirational speaker, standup
comic, and certified addiction treatment professional.
Marti has performed at the world-famous Hollywood Improv and at the Comedy Store
in Hollywood, and has shared the stage with Gary Shandling and Alonzo Bodden of
Last Comic Standing. She is producer/founder and host of Laff-aholics, an annual
standup comedy benefit for recovery in Indianapolis that features nationally headlining
comedians.
Marti emerged from her downward spiral with her sense of humor intact, and she draws
from a deep inner wellspring of joy and enthusiasm which is contagious to audiences as
she shares simple, effective ways to get anyone back on track. Martis inspirational, humorous memoir, Never Give in to Fear: Laughing All the Way Up from Rock Bottom,
earned recognition from the National Indie Excellence Awards and critical acclaim.

Nation of Patrriots Tour

Lead Your Health Workshop

It's here again!!!!! The Nation of Patriots Tour will be coming


through Parsons again this year for the 6th year! Come out and
join us on July 10th to wave them on as they pass through town!
The group has approximately 50 individuals that will be coming
through town this year, traveling from Hideout Harley-Davidson
in Joplin, MO. They will come in on Main Street (Old 400 Hyw
and travel through town
toward Ernesto's, turning off Main onto Central Street. LCMHS
staff will be located
at the corner of 16th
and Main to distribute

LCMHS is co-hosting a "Lead Your Health, Living with a


Chronic condition" workshop! Deb Williams, Health Home
Coordinator and Shelli Collins, RN will present this exciting workshop geared to help individuals learn how to manage their health needs. This program, which is a six week
workshop, will begin on Monday July 13th at 2pm. Participants will meet at 2:00 pm each of these Mondays and will
be dismissed no later than 4:00 pm.

Continue Education on Problem Gambling
On June 24th through June 26th, 2015 Labette Centers Director of Clinical Services Misti Mustain LMLP, LCAC, KCGCI
and Mark Mikel LSCSW, LCAC, KCGCI attended the Midwest
Conference on Problem Gambling and Substance Abuse (MCPGSA) 2015 held in Kansas City, MO. The MCPGSA is directed
at serving the regional area that includes Oklahoma, Kansas,
Nebraska, Missouri and Iowa and is the only regional focused
conference across the country. Many from other states across the
nation also attend. The focus this year was Partnering Science
and Communities, in which providers and agencies presented on
recent research and approaches for education, prevention and
treatment interventions to use in problem gambling and substance abuse.
Labette Center is committed to providing education, hope and
treatment options for problem gambling and substance abuse.
Mustain and Mikel are both certified in Kansas for treatment of
problem gambling disorders. Their attendance of the 2015 MCPGSA was to continue their education, training and networking
with other treatment providers across the nation.
This conference provided up to date research and training on
approaches to provide care to those with problem gambling disorders and the opportunity to talk with other from Kansas and our
region on gambling treatment. stated Misti Mustain, director of
clinical services. The experience provided excellent direction
for facilitating discussion on treatment approaches and strengthening my skills for treatment and supervision of providers.
Labette Center is a recognized state provider for problem gambling and offers problem gambling assessment and treatment.

This workshop will be held at the Rector Diabetes Center,


South Hwy 59, Parsons KS. For LCMHS clients, if transportation is a barrier, please contact one of the individuals
providing the workshop and they will attempt to coordinate
it.

Executive Director Matthew Atteberry commented, With a wide
array of opportunities available in the surrounding areas, and the
upcoming addition of gambling venues, it is imperative that we
be able to provide quality treatment to those who suffer from
these types of addictions. By attending this conference, Misti
and Mark have been able to strengthen skills they already possessed and prepare themselves for upcoming treatment needs.

Leadership Labette Accepting Applications


Leadership Labette is now accepting
applications for the 2015-2016 class.
Leadership Labette aspires to be the center
of excellence for civic leadership development in the Greater Labette County community.
Leadership Labettes mission is to grow and foster civic leadership by:


teaching participants new ways to more effectively exercise leadership


helping participants connect, create, and maintain strong community networks
inspiring participants to care more, engage more and risk more for a healthier community

Leadership Labette is an eight-month (September-April) community leadership development program. The program is open to all adult residents of the greater Labette County area. Program activities include:






Evening Meet & Greet to kick off the program


2-day overnight retreat to Wichita, including a visit to Kansas Leadership Center to study individual Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)
5 day-long classroom sessions that teach the Kansas Community Leadership Initiative (KCLI) curriculum
and Competencies for Civic Leadership created by the Kansas Leadership Center
Day trip to the Kansas State Capitol in Topeka to meet with legislators
Community service project that focuses on children's health, created and implemented completely by the
program participants
Graduation luncheon
Continuing education opportunities through Kansas Leadership Center

Leadership Labette is managed by a volunteer board of local community members and supported by Labette Center
for Mental Health Services, Kansas Leadership Center, and Kansas Health Foundation.

Mental Health First Aid Course

July 14th, 2015

Labette Center for Mental Health Services will be holding an Adult Mental Health
First Aid course on Tuesday July 14th, 2015 from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm. The course
will be held at Labette Centers main facility located at 1730 Belmont Parsons KS
in the multi-purpose room. Participants must register prior to the course. Cost of
registration is $50.00 which includes materials, lunch and snacks.
This program covers information about how to help a youth who may be expierencing a mental health crisis or at the onset of a mental illness. The program is
excellent for anyone, and specifically for those who work with youth. This includes teachers, paraprofessionals, principals, youth leaders, afterschool program
coordiantors, parents, and those who actively work with youth in the community.
Through this course individuals will learn skills and information to help a youth
in need.
