For May 20, 2015
1. DP
Our chiller (immediately behind compressor where the refrigerant cools the
circulated chill-water) also is routinely icing-up inside the water passages,
causing complete blockage of the chill-water discharge line from the pump. This
can be prevented by repairing or replacing the TXV valve, and any future or
further recurrence can be prevented or greatly reduced by installing a small
diameter (3/8 inch or 1/4 inch) copper tubing at the chill-water pump discharge
gauge port that runs up the exhaust stack to the chill-water head-tank, and then
adding several gallons of anti-freeze or glycol to the water.
We also need the refer-techs to take a look at all alarm/shut-down functions for
super-heat, low suction pressure, high discharge pressure.
If possible, please send the two Romanians that were here on our vessel
(February 25-2015?) recently. They seem smart and capable and speak English.
They are about 40 years old (not the guy who broke his leg), but we cannot
remember their names. We would really appreciate.
7. Fan propeller on condenser fan motor @ compressor unit in upper engineroom failed (cracked). This fan is on the walk-in refer-box condenser unit in upper
engine-room. Replaced with undersized fan propeller as temporary solution.
Specific ordering info, sizing, etc., on requisition # 06052015-210853 (BOTTOM
ITEM ON PAGE). We found a very good match for this exact propeller on the
McCombs website. We would be very happy to help with any clarification,
ordering help, or additional information.
8. Galley walk-in freezer evaporator is continually icing-up and no longer
transferring heat to refrigerant through evaporator fin passages. Freezer
temperature has slowly climbed so that we had to de-ice the evaporator two times
in past ten days, with it quickly icing-up again. Need techs to examine system for
proper de-icing function.
9. Starter for davit ram system motor was not working and vendor techs came
(22-4-15) and found a faulty CURRENT OVERLOAD PROTECTOR. They jumped
this power-leg so davit would work temporarily. The techs told Thiago and Tom
they would order a new one and install it at next crew-change. We are due for our
PORT STATE INSPECTION at next crew-change (20-5-15) and will need this
part installed upon arrival in Rio
10. The 400 meter boom is not inflating all the way. In the outermost section of
the boom (first 200 meter part of the boom) one section inflates and the other one
next to it is not inflating.
Update: 2/5/15 deployed the boom again and we discovered that one of the air
hoses has a leak in the front section of the boom. At end of drill we opened all
dump valves to deflate boom in the normal manner so we could begin to reel it in.
Normally a great volume of air is discharged through these valves to deflate
boom. Now very little are exits through the dump valves, as a further indication of
problem. This will need to be examined and fixed next time in port.
