No one is wise by birth. Wisdom results from ones own efforts

The English thinker, John Locke used the term 'tabula rasa' to describe the mind of an infant. The concept of
'tabula rasa' suggests that at birth, the mind is a blank slate. Corresponding to each level of growth and
development, an individual learns new things and gains knowledge. Using the faculties of insight and
perception, the individual makes sense of that knowledge and executes that knowledge to make sense of the
world around him/her.
Clearly, birth does not guarantee wisdom. It requires conscious effort from the individual. Also, it is fair to
say that the more effort an individual makes, the more knowledge/ wisdom he/ she will gain.
Wisdom can be variously described as knowledge gained by having many experiences in life or knowledge
of what is proper or reasonable or the ability to think and act using knowledge, experience, understanding
and common sense. Whichever way wisdom is interpreted, fundamental to the idea of wisdom is that it takes
time and comes with experience and development of the ability to think, analyse, judge and act.
It is not something that one is born with but acquires over time. A person not willing to seek knowledge,
make sense of people, things, events, apply perception, judgment and action can never gain wisdom and be
called wise. People renowned for their wisdom such as Plato, Aristotle, Siddhartha and Chanakya and others
weren't born wise but gained wisdom over time and with a lot of effort.
Just as birth cannot guarantee wisdom, it can also not be inherited. After birth, every individual needs to
develop those faculties within himself/ herself that enable him/ her to be receptive and perspective to new
experiences, learning and hence wisdom. A wise person distinguishes himself/ herself from the crowd by
his/ her proper sense of judgment, considered opinion, common sense and insights, all developed as a result
of great effort.
However, an individual can, certainly, benefit from the wisdom of ages passed on in the form of legends,
stories, books and so on and learn from them. In such a scenario too, the wisdom of ages can only act as a
guiding light. It is up to the individual to decode the wisdom to suit his/her position and gain from it.
Oscar Wilde said, " With age comes wisdom, but sometimes age comes alone. This implies that wisdom is
not a necessary by-product of age. One may grow old and yet remain unwise or foolish. This is because
wisdom requires effort. Patience, discernment, sound judgment and understanding are some of the essential
ingredients of wisdom. Wisdom comes only to those who make a conscientious effort to avoid the path of
foolishness and walk the path of enlightenment.
Wisdom is the result of one's experiences and cannot be taught. The transmission of knowledge or learning
can in itself not result in a person gaining wisdom. Only if the person takes the pains to make sense of that
knowledge or learning or only if that knowledge or learning shapes his understanding of fundamentals and
influences his action positively, can he be called a wise person.
Goodwill is the only asset that competition cannot undersell or destroy.

Goodwill is that invisible force which is difficult to earn and takes years to build but once earned, its
benefits can be reaped for several years and generations. The significance of goodwill transcends the limited
scope of a business and indeed pervades an individual's life.

In business terminology, goodwill is the amount of value that a company's good reputation adds to its overall
value. The sum total of what a business has done in the past, the actions it takes in the present and plans for
the future together help in building goodwill. A company's reputation hinges primarily on its conduct with
clients, society and environment, development of trust in its brand, transparency in its processes and the
ethical conduct of the company. If a business manages to have all this, it will automatically earn goodwill for
the company or the brand.
The goodwill or the reputation that the company or the brand earns for itself would, in turn, help build a
devoted clientele and attract more customers willing to put their trust in it. This will immune the company or
the brand from competition as the goodwill that it has earned will give it an edge over its rivals.
The effect of goodwill cannot be seen so much in immediate tangible terms, such as buildings, profits and so
on but in intangible gains such as trust, employee and customer loyalty, brand image, expanding networks
and so on. The intangible benefits are crucial as they ensure long-term sustenance of the business.
Particularly, when the company is losing ground to its competitors and falls on hard times, the goodwill it
has earned over the years plays a major role in keeping the company afloat.
That goodwill is important is evident from the fact that it is shown as a separate head in the accounts books
of any company. It is an asset that never depreciates and, in fact, is always valued at a premium. Every
business today is conscious of the image that it portrays of itself to the outside world and makes an extra
effort to earn goodwill in the society. For instance, corporate houses have begun to allocate separate funds as
part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
These funds are employed to benefit the society in various ways-constructing hospitals, schools, old age
homes, welfare programmes and so on. They realize that by doing so they will build goodwill for the
company in the society which will add great value to their businesses and differentiate them from their
competitors. The high investments made by the business houses in such programmes are offset by the high
rate of return, both tangible and intangible, that the business is likely to earn over several years in the future
and thus, makes for a good business decision.
At an individual level, goodwill is created over a period of time by being a trustworthy, reliable and kind
person. Such a person will be respected wherever he/she goes and is more likely to be offered help if needed
than a person with no goodwill or a bad reputation. The peculiar feature of goodwill is that it spreads rapidly
through word-of-mouth. The reputation or the goodwill that the person has in the society will influence the
societys perspective and behaviour towards the individual.
Therefore, Marshall Field has rightly said that, Goodwill is the one and only asset that competition cannot
undersell or destroy. It affects the prospects of both the business and the individual and should, therefore,
be an important consideration.
Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage
Anais Nin, an American author, once made this statement, Life shrinks or expands in proportion to ones
courage. It is short and simple yet it is completely true.
When you are fearless, the possibilities in life seem endless and your life automatically expands; on the
other hand, once you become scared of failure or rejections, you limit the number of possibilities and
automatically, your life shrinks drastically.
Children are fearless, which is why they dream big. They are unaware of rejections and failures and as such,
their dreams and possibilities seem endless.
As we grow up, we witness lifes challenges and come to terms with our limitations, be it in our skill-set,
finances, or abilities. Many people view their limitations as obstacles they cannot overcome and as such,
they become risk-averse and fearful of life.

This leads to the shrinking of their dreams and goals. On the other hand, there are some people, who despite
their limitations are willing to go the extra mile to make their dreams a reality.
Instead of shrinking their possibilities, they rise to the challenge and are determined to overcome any
obstacle that may come their way. These are the people, whose courage allows them to reach the hardest and
most challenging of goals.
So, the quality of life that we lead, which is made up of dreams and goals, is dependent on our
determination, dedication and perseverance. Life is neither a bed of roses nor a bed of thorns it has its
share of successes and failures.
And it is up to us to make the most of our lives. If we choose to live our lives as cowards, we will lose the
opportunity to enhance our capabilities and attain self-satisfaction.
On the other hand, if we choose to live our lives in a courageous manner, without thinking about failures, we
will reap success and become confident of our abilities, and ultimately broaden our lives horizons.
"Peace begins with a smile"
Mother Teresa once said, Peace begins with a smile. Smile five times a day at someone you really dont
want to smile at; do it for peace. Is it true that love and compassion comes rushing to one person once he
smiles? Not necessarily.
However, one can reduce the level of hatred he has towards the other person by smiling. Smiling is
contagious. Once you smile at a person, it results in the other person smiling back at you.
So, at least at that instance, there are no moments of hatred, and momentarily, you dont have negative
feelings towards the other person. This is how the journey towards peace begins.
When there is love and compassion, there is no room for hatred. Today, countries fight with each other for
power and resources. However, they dont work on internal problems that are affecting the citizens of the
country.
If, instead of promoting hatred for other countries, a nation provides food and shelter for its citizens and
eradicates poverty, the world would be a better and a happier place to be in.
Smiling is powerful. It can change millions of lives for the better. Instead of using weapons, countries
should have peaceful talks and they should show love and concern for other nations by smiling with their
hearts.
A smile is not a superficial gesture that starts and ends on the face; it comes from the heart and touches the
heart of the recipient. Love and peace can work wonders.
Mother Teresa and Mahatma Gandhi, two advocates of peace, have proven to the world that a smile goes a
long way. And a smile has never hurt anyone. When you smile, you embrace the other person with open
arms, and you are one step closer to establishing and maintaining cordial ties.
"Common sense is genius dressed in its working clothes"
Ralph Waldo Emerson, an American essayist and poet, once said, Common sense is genius dressed in its
working clothes. There are many people in the world who are smart and intelligent. However, not all have
common sense.

In fact, ordinary people and those with an average Intelligence Quotient (IQ) may have more sense of the
real world than someone with a degree or a PhD. Those who are well-educated are bookish may not
necessarily be street smart.
For example, it is common sense that drunk driving is dangerous and that one should never engage in such
an activity. But why is it that majority of the people caught for drunk driving are those who are educated? It
is because there is no correlation between the level of education and common sense. Just because one is
educated does not mean that he has common sense.
And on the other hand, just because one is not educated does not mean that he lacks common sense. To
survive in the world, we need people skills and we should be street smart. Knowledge that is vested in books
may come in handy at the workplace or at schools, but to be a genius in the real-world setting, common
sense is essential.
The definition of common sense is simple sound judgment based on the observation and perception of
surroundings and facts. Only those who keep their eyes and ears open during their daily interactions have the
ability to make sound judgments.
So, it is true that common sense is after all, not so common. Many people, especially those who are
educated, take common sense for granted as they believe that the world runs based on the concepts found in
their encyclopedias and books. Sadly, this is not the way of life.
"You may delay, but time will not"
You may have heard of the famous saying, Time and tide wait for no man. So, it is important to make the
most of your time instead of procrastinating.
In universities, we are taught time management skills because our life is essentially a race against time. We
have so many tasks at hand but very little time. This is why prioritization of work is important so that no
time is wasted along the way.
Procrastination is common in the field of education. Students neglect their studies during their school term
and wait till the last minute to prepare for examinations. They spend so much time playing games and
chatting with friends that they eventually lose track of time and start panicking at the last moment a few
days before the examinations. These are the students that do not perform to their optimum level in the
examinations.
Toppers, on the other hand, are consistent in their studies and strike the right balance between education and
play. They never panic at the last moment because they are already well-prepared for their examinations.
Time is just like a river; it keeps flowing forward and never turns back. You may delay your work and wait
for the last minute to complete your tasks at hand, but time will continue to move forward.
Farmers have to keep a close watch of time because they follow strict schedules for planting and harvesting.
Their farming schedules are based on the weather and if they delay their planting or harvesting time by even
a day, it will spell disaster for them because time will not wait for them.
We should have respect for time and not misuse it. You may have heard of this famous saying, To realize
the value of one year, ask a student who failed an examination. To realize the value of one month, ask a
mother who gave birth to a premature baby. To realize the value of one minute, ask a person who just missed
his train.

To realize the value of one second, ask someone who just avoided an accident. Time is precious; even one
second of your life is valuable. So, do not waste it. Let us have respect for time and time will show the same
respect to us.
"There is no 'I' in Teamwork"
Teamwork is an important buzzword in schools, universities and at offices today. We are slowly moving
away from individual projects to team-based projects in an attempt to boost growth and innovation.
An individual has his set of strengths and weaknesses, but when a group of individuals come together, they
are able to eliminate their weaknesses and enhance their strengths. This is the power of teamwork.
By combining the strengths of team members, new heights of success can be reached. When people work
together, they dont think about their individual gains; they think about the welfare of the group.
Teamwork is a fusion of three elements collaboration, compromise and cooperation. When a group of
individuals work together, there is bound to be friction because of differing viewpoints.
However, people come to a compromise to prevent the downfall of a group. In team-based sports such as
football, hockey and cricket, we witness team members leaving their differences behind and working
towards a common goal to defeat the opponents.
We dont see competition between the members of the same team because there is no I in teamwork. It is
true that no one can break a bundle of sticks but one can break single sticks if they are no longer part of a
bundle. Similarly, it will be difficult to defeat a team because unity is strength.
It is true that united we stand, divided we fall. So, it is only when individuals leave their differences
behind and work towards a common goal can they achieve success. In a war, we notice the same
phenomenon.
Soldiers do not think of their glory and fame when fighting for their country. They put the nation before self.
In history books and in reality, we have always seen the victory of teams and the downfall of individuals.
This is the beauty of teamwork.
"Competition is a rude yet effective motivation"
Toba Beta, author of Master of Stupidity, once said, Competition is a rude yet effective motivation.
Competition brings out the best in products and services, and the worst in people.
Everyone wants to be the best and stand out in a competition. So, competitors, be it firms or individuals, try
to outperform other entities to gain recognition. Competition is rude because it brings out negative qualities
in people.
Friends become enemies, colleagues become competitors, and families get torn apart for materialistic gains
of success. In addition, some people who are thirsty for success resort to illegal means of gaining fame. This
is the negative side of competition, which is seen by many as being offensive and rude.
One of the famous sibling rivalries we have witnessed in the last decade in the Indian business environment
is that of Mukesh and Anil Ambani. After the demise of their father, both the siblings fought in the business
space to gain a lions share of their family business.
Business competition led to weakening of family ties and created turmoil in many sectors of the economy
the two siblings operated in.

Although competition brings out negative qualities in an individual, it also enhances growth and creativity.
Without competition, organizations will not be keen on improving their products. People will become lazy
and take things for granted.
Competition motivates people to work harder and reap the sweet fruits of success. In the education sector in
India, competition is fierce, which is why students burn the midnight oil, go for coaching classes, and work
hard to excel.
So, competition is a double-edged sword, with both positive and negative aspects. It is up to the individual
to balance these two forces, to ensure that competition remains healthy.
Competition makes an individual more creative and hardworking. We should embrace healthy competition
instead of creating tension amongst competitors and friends.
"Aim for the moon. If you miss, you may hit a star"
William Clement Stone, an American businessman and an advocate of Positive Mental Attitude (PMA) once
said, Aim for the moon. If you miss, you may hit a star. It is important for set high goals in life so that
even if you dont reach those goals, you will fall somewhere near those goals.
For those who aim for the moon, nothing is impossible to achieve. Only those who are determined and
persistent will be able to think big and try their best to reach the peak of success.
People who aim for the moon do not put any restriction on themselves. They dont feel constrained by their
abilities. This is what differentiates successful people from ordinary people. People who are focused and
think big get resources together to ensure that things are in their favour.
Sir Edmund Percival Hillary was the first man to reach the summit of Mount Everest, the worlds highest
mountain. Hillary was successful because he thought big, was ambitious and determined. He was not
satisfied with climbing small mountains and hills. Because his dream was huge, he went on many
expeditions to build his stamina and prepare his body for adversities and challenges he may face while
scaling tall mountains.
Since Hillary was always focused on his goal the Mount Everest, he did not give up along the way.
Hypothetically, if Hillary had failed to climb Mount Everest, he could have gained fame and success for
climbing the second highest mountain. Thats the beauty of thinking big even if you cant reach your goal,
you will not fall too deep.
Never underestimate your capabilities. People who are afraid to aim high have self-doubt, are complacent
and scared of failures. Only those who take risks in life become successful in the future.
One should stretch his limits, step out of his comfort zone, and work day and night to transform his dreams
into reality.
There is a famous saying, When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Success is not for the weakhearted. It is only for those with strong hearts, who are determined to aim high and reap success in life.
"A quitter never wins and a winner never quits"
Vince Lombardi, a famous American football coach, once said, A quitter never wins and a winner never
quits. We have heard of this saying at least once in our lives. And we all have had the opportunity to apply
the saying to a part of our lives, be it in a sports team, in academics, at work or even at relationships.

A winner is someone who is determined to reach his goals, no matter how arduous the journey may be. A
winner is ready to face challenges and obstacles that may come in between him and his goals. On the other
hand, a quitter gets perturbed by challenges, and in the midst, gives up. Because he is not determined to face
the difficulties, he never reaches his goal and is declared a quitter.
Most of us are not born with talent and skills. We develop them over time. Pandit Ravi Shankar was a world
renowned composer and musician who played the sitar. He was so passionate about music that he did not
stop learning the sitar. Although he faced difficulties initially, he did not lose hope. He was determined to
succeed, and he practised day and night to attain a high position in the international music industry.
Similarly, scientists like Issac Newton and Albert Einstein never gave up pursuing their dreams and interests
just because some of their experiments failed. They strived hard to reach their goals and only rested when
success touched their feet.
To give up midway is easy but to continue despite challenges is difficult. That is why only winners are
remembered for a long time. They are our role models, who teach us that it pays to never quit. Success only
knocks on the doors of winners because they are determined in life. On the other hand, a quitter lives most
of his life in regret because of his lack of motivation and dedication.
"Management is nothing more than motivating people"
Lee Iacocca, an American businessman, once said, Management is nothing more than motivating other
people. Management, another term for leadership, is all about supervising employees. Through supervision,
a manager ensures that employees under him are productive and results-oriented.
Without a manager, employees of an organization lose direction. To ensure that people are focused on
specific tasks for the benefit of the organization, a leader is essential. So, management does involve
motivating people to get work done.
In the course of a project, managers guide people in the right direction. Life is full of ups and downs, so is
working in an organization. People tend to get frustrated with colleagues or with mounting work pressures.
Here, the management team plays an important role.
To ensure that projects run smoothly, a manager has to take up the role of a counselor. By having a one to
one discussion or by having group discussions on issues that are acting as obstacles, managers can nip the
problem in the bud.
Managers motivate people to work harder and reach their goals by providing incentives. Some companies
organize outings and parties for employees upon successful completion of projects.
However, it is unfair to state that management is only about motivating people. Managers also ensure that
employees work output is of high quality. In order to supervise employees and provide suggestions on
improvement, it is important that managers are proficient in technical matters too.
So, a manager, apart from motivating people, decodes complex issues of employees, ensures that employees
are working towards the common goal of the organization, and looks into the quality of work being
produced by his team members. Since a manager wears many hats, it is fair to say that his role is pivotal to
the success of an organization.
"Think like a man of action"
Henri Bergson, a French author and philosopher, once said, Think like a man of action, act like a man of
thought. One should always think before taking an action. When one plans to take an action, he should
think of the consequences of doing so, instead of regretting later. In addition, one should convert ideas into

action, instead of preaching about ideal values. Only when you say what you mean and mean what you
say will people have faith in you and your words.
A man of action is always in an active state, solving problems, instead of staying idle. So, his energy is
always flowing. When someone acts like a man of thought, it means that he does not get carried away by
emotions. In fact, he analyses deeply and ensures that his actions are justifiable and aligned with the desired
outcome. It is important to think and act simultaneously. If one simply thinks without taking actions, he
cannot achieve anything in life.
If Mother Teresa had spent days and months thinking of eradicating poverty in India, without going to the
streets to help people, the society would not have benefitted. On the other hand, if one only acts, without
thinking of an action plan, he may end up regretting from thought-less actions. Drink-driving is an activity
where perpetrators do not think before acting, which leads to disastrous consequences for them and other
road users.
Hence, to lead meaningful lives, it is important to think before taking any action. By thinking, one analyses
pros and cons of an action before jumping into a task. This way, his path to success becomes less bumpy.
However, one should not procrastinate by thinking too much because time and tide wait for no man. So, it
is important to grab opportunities by thinking and acting appropriately.
"Right mental attitude will help one to achieve one's goal"
The secret to achieving goals is by having the right mental attitude by cultivating good habits. One needs to
understand that life is full of ups and downs. So, just because one has not attained success a couple of times
does not mean that he is a failure. Even though one may not be successful at times, he needs to learn from
his mistakes and be optimistic in life.
One should be patient when goals appear challenging or daunting. If an individual feels that his goals are
unattainable, he should reduce them into smaller actions which are easier to be carried out. If a
mountaineers goal is to climb Mount Everest, he cannot attempt to scale the mountain in his first attempt.
He should take one step at a time. By training hard and climbing hills and smaller mountains, he will gain
confidence and slowly, he will be able to climb the worlds tallest mountain. This requires discipline and
determination. One should never give up and lose hope in the midst of achieving his goals.
Apart from discipline and determination, one needs to work hard to achieve his goals. For example, if an
individual is keen on clearing the Civil Service Examination or the Graduate Management Admission Test
(GMAT), he needs to burn the midnight oil and go for additional coaching and training sessions to hone his
skills. In addition, he needs to have confidence in himself. Many hardworking students fail to achieve their
goals because they dont believe in themselves. Only when a person has faith in himself will he be able to
see his dreams come true.
So, to achieve goals, one needs to consider the three Ps Positivity, Possibility, and Proactiveness. An
individual needs to have a positive attitude, with the belief that he can achieve his set goals. In addition, he
needs to work hard towards achieving his goals. Only then will he be successful in life.
"Dreaming big is the first step to success"
Les Brown, a well-renowned motivational speaker, once said, Shoot for the moon. Even if a person misses,
he will land among the stars. In reality, we have many dreams, but we may not achieve all our goals
because of certain constraints. So, it is important to dream big so that even if we dont achieve our goal, we
will fall somewhere near our goal. When one dreams big, he does not put any restriction on himself. There
are no limits to ones dreams. Dreams are what differentiate great people from ordinary people. Ordinary
people only dream about what they can achieve. Hence, they can never carry out extraordinary tasks.

Successful people dream big, even if the goal may seem extremely difficult to achieve. Mahatma Gandhi
dreamt big about an independent India. At that time, people did not believe in his dream because it seemed
unachievable. However, he was determined and never gave up. Because he dreamt big, he managed to reach
his goal.
Successful businessmen also think and dream big. The founder of Infosys, Narayanamurthy, had humble
beginnings. He was not born with a silver spoon, yet he dreamt big of being the CEO of Indias largest
software company. Although he did not have funds to establish a business initially, he and his family worked
hard to make his dream a reality. This is the power of big dreams. As the saying goes, When there is a will,
there is a way, similarly, once an individual sets a big goal, he is bound to gather his resources and work
hard to attain success.
Even though the world may laugh at people who dream big, it is not an excuse for staying within ones
comfort zone. To be successful, one needs to take risks. Only when the stakes are high do people work
tirelessly to make their dreams a reality.
"True humility is intelligent self respect"
Ralph Washington Sockman, senior pastor of Christ Church in New York, once said, True humility is
intelligent self respect which keeps us from thinking too highly or too meanly of ourselves. It makes us
modest by reminding us how far we have come short of what we can be. It is true that once someone
achieves great things in life, he becomes self confident because his morale is boosted. Having confidence in
oneself is important but having too much self confidence can ruin a person. A person with immense self
confidence thinks too highly of himself and becomes egoistic. He feels that he has achieved all his
objectives and does not have the motivation to strive harder.
Humility keeps a person firm on the ground and makes him aware of future goals that are pending. As
individuals, we have a number of goals in life. So, it is important that we do not lose focus once we achieve
a goal. Many people have the misconception that humility and modesty have a negative impact on a persons
confidence level. This is not true. In fact, studies have shown that humility is not equivalent to low self
esteem. In fact, humility is about focusing on the unknown instead of the known. So, a modest person,
instead of gloating and boasting of his past achievements, will focus on tasks he needs to complete in the
future, of which the outcome is unknown.
Many people find it difficult to practice humility. One way to be humble is by acknowledging that you may
not have the answers to all the questions and that you have a lot to learn. By doing so, you automatically
open the doors of knowledge and are on a road of lifelong learning. By gaining more knowledge, you gain
confidence and self respect. This is why true humility is intelligent self respect.
"Handwriting is a reflection of personality"
Handwriting speaks volumes of an individual. So, next time you are hard pressed for time in analysing an
individual, just look at his handwriting and you will understand his personality, temperament, and behaviour.
Handwriting is a personal expression, and reflects who the person is on the inside. Everybodys handwriting
is unique, just like ones fingerprint. Since there is so much of science behind a persons handwriting,
researchers have come up with a term called graphology, which is indeed the study of handwriting.
First and foremost, when analysing a persons handwriting, it is important to look at the slant of his writing.
If a persons writing is slant towards the left, it means that he does not express his emotions well. If there is a
lack of slant in a persons writing, it means that he thinks with his heart and mind; he uses both emotions and

logic to understand a situation. On the other hand, people who write with a forward slant, or a right slant, are
more caring and emotional.
A signature of a person is an aspect of handwriting too. Elaine Ness, a professional handwriting analyst,
believes that a signature reflects a persons communication skills, and how he wants to be perceived by the
public. If a persons signature is legible, it means that he is comfortable with what he has expressed. An
illegible signature implies that an individual is not interested in gaining public recognition.
Graphology is complicated. Handwriting is made up of many elements including line levels, slant of writing,
spacing, and the size of writing that it takes hours to analyse a person completely. Handwriting analysis
occurs at many levels, including job hiring. When you take a written examination at a job interview, apart
from testing your knowledge, employers also look at your handwriting to determine your personality and if
you blend well with the corporate culture. So, before you step into an examination hall, analyse your own
handwriting before hitting the global spotlight.
"Secret of all triumphs is perseverance"
John Quincy Adams, the sixth president of the United States, once said, Patience and perseverance have a
magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish. When a task seems difficult, you
need to gather strength, work hard and be persistent. Instead of becoming panicky and impulsive, it is
important to stay calm and focused. Although eradication of poverty is close to impossible, Mother Teresa
did not lose hope and faith. She worked hard despite all the difficulties in Calcutta, India, to help the
homeless, poor, refugees, alcoholics, the aged and the sick.
By 1996, Mother Teresa had opened 517 missionaries in 100 countries, with the objective of helping those
living in poverty. If Mother Teresa was not persistent and focused, poverty levels all around the world would
have been at a devastating level. According to Indias Planning Commission, the poverty level between 2009
and 2010 stood at 29.8%, a decline from 37.2% between 2004 and 2005. India would not have been able to
eradicate poverty if not for the foundation laid by Mother Teresa and her followers.
Similarly, successful businessmen in India did not become powerful overnight. Narayanamurthy, founder of
Infosys, had humble beginnings. From a young age, he was thirsty for knowledge and had a passion for
studies. He had a vision of establishing Indias largest software company but he did not have the capital to
do so. Slowly, he and his wife worked hard to save money to make their dream a reality. Although they faced
many setbacks in the beginning of their lives, they continued to work hard. It is because of their persistent
nature that Infosys is one of the leading IT companies in the world today.
Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, a minister and a progenitor of positive thinking, once said, There is nothing in
life that so difficult that it cannot be overcome. Faith and perseverance can move mountains; it can change
people and the world. With perseverance, one can survive greatest storms and difficulties too. So, the secret
ingredient to success is perseverance. Without determination and hard work, one cannot taste the nectar of
success.
"Dreams do not become reality through magic"
Colin Powell, an American statesman and a retired four-star general in the United States Army, once said, A
dream does not become reality through magic. It takes sweat, determination and hard work. It is true that
the price of success is hard work and determination. If one takes a look at the successful men and women in
the world, he/she will realise that they climbed the stairs of success after years of hard work. Successful
businessmen, including Azim Premji, Mukesh Ambani and Kumar Mangalam Birla did not become famous
overnight. They burnt the midnight oil to master their skills and become competent in their trade.
Mahatma Gandhi dreamt of an independent India when the British set foot in our motherland. If he had
believed in magic, we would not be free from the shackles of British today. Instead of building castles in the
air, Mahatma Gandhi fought for the country. He treaded the path of Satyagraha, which by any standard is

not easy. Apart from fighting for freedom, Mahatma Gandhi preached unity among Indians. Today, we
celebrate Independence Day, thanks to the dedication, determination and hard work of Mahatma Gandhi.
Apart from this figure, Bhagat Singh, Jawaharlal Nehru and Subhash Chandra Bose also worked day and
night to improve the lives of their fellowmen. Their dreams of India became a reality because they were
confident of their abilities and were certain that their sincere efforts will pay off one day.
People who are focused and determined to be successful do not believe in the world of magic. The magical
world is for people who are lazy. One who follows the path of magic is ignorant and oblivious to the key to
success, which does not fall from the sky.
Success comes to those who believe in themselves and not in futile ways like magic. It is important to dream
so that there is a purpose in life. However, one should be able to distinguish between dreams and reality. In
order to make ones dreams a reality, one should be diligent, confident and hardworking.
"Political class is living in its own silos"
A great man once said, Effective leaders always destroy silos. In fact, silos are perfect for storing items but
are destructive to societies and organizations. Sadly, the political class in each country lives in its own silo.
Politicians are more concerned about defeating their opponents than looking into the welfare of the public.
In India, politicians look at their own gains instead of putting the nation before self. In fact, they build such
high walls around them to safeguard their interests that they form a barrier between the public and the
government. When this happens, the government fails to understand the plights of the citizens and the
problems of a country.
Last year, a female physiotherapy student was gang raped and beaten in Delhi. If the public had not
protested on the streets, the government would have ignored the issue or taken the case very lightly. In India,
unless the public protests or speaks up against the government, justice is denied. Last year, a policeman
refused to file a rape case, resulting in a victims suicide. Those with power are so bent on maintaining their
status and becoming richer that they forget their reason for being elected and being a part of the government.
Politicians who live in their own silos are self-centered, without self-confidence. They are unsure of their
capabilities, which is why they refuse to step out of their comfort zone to address social problems, economic
crisis, political turmoil and environmental degradation.
To be a successful nation, politicians have to come out of their comfort zone by abandoning their silos. They
need to understand the problems that the citizens are facing. Today, most of the countries in the world abide
by democratic ideologies, where power lies in the people. So, only by meeting the needs of the people can
politicians hope to keep their power and position.
"By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail"
Benjamin Franklin was known for the following saying, By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail. It
is true that if you do not set goals beforehand or plan ahead in life, you cannot succeed in life.
Success only comes to those with determination, who set concrete goals in life. Successful people have short
term, medium term and long term goals.
Since long term goals are the most difficult to achieve, people come up with short term goals, which will
slowly but surely help them to move in the right direction.
This way, one is organized and well-planned. With so much preparation, one does not lose focus of his goals
and objectives even when the going gets tough.
People who fail to prepare goals beforehand lose their way easily. Since they are not clear about their goals,
they give up when they are unable to face challenges in life.

They forget the big picture (long term goals) and get overwhelmed by difficult tasks along the way. A
budding entrepreneur who is well-prepared will ensure that he has all the necessary resources to help him
reach his goal. With his elaborate structure and support system, he rarely gets panicky because he has
thought through the setbacks that may come his way.
A budding entrepreneurs journey is full of challenges and someone who is not mentally prepared for hard
work and struggles that come with the job will collapse mid-way. Success does not come to people easily; a
lot of hard work, dedication and planning are required.
Charles Dickens once said, I never could have done what I have done without the habits of punctuality,
order, diligence, and the determination to concentrate myself on one subject at a time. These are the key
ingredients for the success recipe.
Aam Admi should have a bigger say in how the country may run
As a democratic nation, every individual has the right to voice out his/her opinion on how the country
should be run. Sadly, in India, this is not the case. Although we are the largest democracy in the world, the
practices of the country say otherwise. Most of the policies formulated by the government are for the benefit
of the wealthy, elite and the powerful.
The government comes up with regulations to get votes just before the elections and once the election period
is over, the regulations are either scraped or amended to suit the politicians needs.
Even though India is a democratic nation on paper, in reality, it practises authoritarian rule, where politicians
act as dictators and the entire population follows the rules dictated by the powerful.
For example, in the Union Budget as well as the Railway Budget, the government has listed policies to
appease the public just before the elections. In the Railway Budget, it is stated that there will be no changes
in the passenger fares and that 22 new railway lines will be added to the existing railway network.
The government has been promising the addition of new railway lines for the last two years, and until now,
it has not managed to implement them successfully. In addition, the government claims it will provide free
Wi-Fi to passengers on certain trains.
Without even consulting the public, the government has come up with such policies. How many people
really want to use the Internet on trains? And if the government plans to provide such facilities, it is sure to
increase the taxes of the citizens. Are citizens willing to pay more taxes just to enjoy such benefits?
These are the questions the government needs to ask the citizens. Without understanding the need for certain
facilities, the government should not establish structures and features that will be redundant for the general
public. For this matter, the government should open avenues through which the public can communicate
with government officials on the policies that suit their needs.
One country that India can learn from is Singapore, where town councils have been established for the
citizens to communicate their needs and requirements to politicians, who will then escalate them to higher
authorities for implemention.
"We must meet the challenge rather than wish it were not before us"
Justice William J Brennan Jr, former Associate Justice of the US Court, once said, We must meet the
challenge rather than wish it were not before us. Challenges make us stronger and wiser, and without
challenges, life becomes meaningless and boring.

Everyone comes across problems in life; in fact, nobodys life is free of challenges and problems. So, it is
better to tackle a problem when it comes to us instead of wishing it were not before us.
We dont gain anything by avoiding problems. In fact, we become timid and fearful when we take the easy
path. The hard journeys that we go through help to build our character and prepare us for difficult times that
may lie ahead of us. For example, if a child had stage fright and his parents always shielded him from public
speaking, the child would grow up to be afraid of social interactions.
Instead of making a problem grow on us, we should nip it in the bud. If public speaking is a challenge, one
should tackle it by going for training in verbal skills. Only by facing our fears will we be able to move
forward in life. Otherwise, the fear will continue to haunt us for the rest of our lives.
The journey of life is not easy and by avoiding challenges, we add barriers to our progress. Obstacles can
either break us or give us the determination to fight even harder.
Challenges will always be present in life, whether we like it or not. But the outcome is dependent on how we
tackle those challenges. To succeed in life, we must be determined and focused. Success does not knock on
the doors of the weak-hearted. So, dont give up when the going gets tough. That is the time to put your
skills and determination to test.
Norman Vincent Peale, progenitor of the theory of positive thinking, once said, The tests of life are not
meant to break you, but to make you. And this is how we should view challenges in life.
"A winner never quits"
According to Vince Lombardi, an American football coach, Winners never quit and quitters never win. A
winner is someone who is determined to achieve his goals and be successful in life. So, a winner never loses
hope even when the journey becomes tough. We all face difficulties in our lives but the important thing is to
learn at every step and move forward in life. It is true that quitters never win. People who are afraid of
difficulties and are not willing to face challenges in life dont have confidence in themselves. They dont
believe in themselves and their capabilities. Hence, they succumb to quitting, which never makes them
winners.
Every mountaineers dream is to climb the Mount Everest. But are all mountaineers successful in their
mission? No. Thats because climbing the highest mountain in the world requires determination and
perseverance. It is important for mountaineers to build their stamina and try scaling hills and smaller
mountains before attempting to climb the highest mountain in the world. Since it is a long and an arduous
chain of tasks, many people quit in between. Only those who have the courage and the strength to stand up
after falling down are the one who are successful in their mission.
A winner never settles for anything less than the best. So, he never accepts defeat and works hard to be the
best. A winner is dedicated to his task and is passionate about doing the job right. As the saying goes, when
the going gets tough, the tough get going, similarly, winners are strong enough to face any difficulty and
challenge in life. How can a sprinter win a race if he quits halfway through a race? Life is like a long
running race. One needs to continue sprinting until he reaches the finishing line. Else, he will not be
considered a winner.
"Right mental attitude will help one achieve his goals"

"Opportunities knock once only"
A great man once said, Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation leans on the doorbell. It is true
that opportunities dont come to us every day. After working hard, we may be entitled to an opportunity. But
one has to be aware of opportunities that may come his/her way. Today, many people are too involved in
their own work that they miss many opportunities.
Opportunities may come in various forms in the form of a scholarship, a raise in the salary, promotion at
work, and a chance to spend quality time with family and friends. So, it is important to keep ones eyes and
ears open so that these opportunities dont slip by. Once these opportunities slip through our fingers, it may
take a long time before they come knocking on our doors again.
For example, if there is a possibility of a promotion at work, and if one chooses to ignore this call, this
opportunity will automatically go to another person. So, apart from working hard, one has to work smartly
too. Often, we get carried away by temptations that keep lingering around us. Temptations tend to distract
us. Often, we get distracted by short-term goals that we lose track of long-term goals. This leads us astray
and prevents us from reaching the peak of success.
It is true that even though an opportunity may knock at your door, you have to get up and open the door. You
have to put in your share of hard work instead of waiting endlessly for opportunities. Only when people are
confident of your abilities, they will send opportunities your way. So, even if opportunities do knock on your
door, it is important to stay humble and continue working hard and stay determined.
We continuously come face to face with great opportunities that are brilliantly disguised as insoluble
problems. Once we solve these problems, doors with opportunities automatically get unlocked. Only when
we are able to prove to people around us that we are capable of making the most of an opportunity, we will
be on the path of success.
Blue Revolution
Water is a precious and finite resource and population is on the increase. Rain-fed and irrigated agriculture
play a key role in ensuring food security for everybody and it will be an enormous challenge to provide

enough water for global food production, especially in those regions and countries where water is already
scarce.
Water touches all aspects of peoples lives and plays a central role in every countrys development. Its
availability impacts food production and nutrition, city development and growth, income generation and
livelihood, and human health and hygiene. Its management reflects the strengths and weaknesses of local,
national and international governance systems and the relationships between countries that share water
resources.
It is also an important mean for those people who earn their livelihood through small water bodies like small
farmers and fisherman. To ensure the safe and protected livelihood of all the people dependent on water
bodies, we need a revolution in this direction and there has been one which we called the Blue
Revolution.
Blue Revolution is the water equivalent of the green revolution and primarily refers to the management of
water resources that can steer humanity to achieve drinking water and crop irrigation security. The aim of
the ongoing Blue Revolution is to rapidly increase fish production in small ponds and water bodies, a boon
to small farmers, the nation's nutrition and its gross domestic product.
The Indian fisheries sector, which 50 years ago produced only 60,0000 tonnes of fish, today produces 5
million tonnes, including 1.6 million tonnes from freshwater aquaculture. Although the yield from marine
fisheries has stagnated, freshwater aquaculture is growing at a healthy 6 percent a year.
The Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA), India's largest center of its kind has been the source
of much of the science that has driven the growth of Indian inland aquaculture. The institute began the
challenging task of turning what was a minor village tradition into a science that not only could increase the
tonnage of fish per volume of water but also cope with inevitable problems that come with more intensive
production, such as how to feed fish economically and how to deal with sudden outbreaks of disease brought
on by crowded conditions.
India farms 1.6 million tonnes of freshwater fish per year compared to the estimated domestic demand of 4.5
million tonnes. Of the 2.2 million hectares of freshwater bodies, only 8,00,000 hectares are currently
utilized. Even India's vast distances, hot climate and vegetarian tradition do not place insurmountable
obstacles in the way of expansion.
Blue Revolution is not only about fishery though. According to United States Agency for International
Development (USAID)s Asia and Near East(ANE) region, water management is very essential for future
water security. Their aim is to achieve increased access to, and effective use of, safe water and sanitation.
They are a revolutionary platform who has launched a Blue Revolution Initiative to promote water
security, prosperity and health in Asia and the Middle East.
They believe that to avert conflict and meet the basic human needs for water will require bold, concerted
action by governments, water users, donors, and the private sector working in partnership to transform water
management. Given the magnitude of the challenge, achieving success requires a veritable blue
revolution. This Blue Revolution Initiative (BRI) provides a framework to guide USAIDs future waterrelated investments in the ANE region, and facilitate coordination and partnership with other donors, nongovernment organizations and the private sector as USAID teams with countries to overcome these
significant challenges.
Blue Revolution Initiative Objectives:
The objectives of the Blue Revolution Initiative are to:
Mitigate tensions associated with the use and management of shared water;

Identifying and mitigating water conflicts at the local, national and regional/trans-boundary levels. Conflicts
are expected to emerge from water shortages and declining water quality in many countries across the
region. Their mitigation demands that countries approach the management of surface and ground waters
from a more integrated perspective. USAID will provide support to regional institutions that support transboundary water management and build their capacity to engage in regional cooperation, conflict mitigation,
and improved management of waters at the river basin level.
Improve environmental management and economic productivity of water resources;
Because fresh water is a finite resource, its protection from pollution and inefficient use are complementary
solutions to its conservation and to poverty reduction. USAID, in coordination with BRI partners, will
support watershed-based approaches by national and local government to protect fresh water supplies, and
improve the productivity of water used in agriculture(more crop per drop). This broad objective
encompasses many of USAIDs ongoing programs in the Near East and Asia.
Improve access to, and effective use of, safe water and basic sanitation.
Under this objective, USAID will work with national governments, other donors, the private sector and
NGOs to expand access to safe water and basic sanitation across the ANE region. USAID will focus its
efforts on: improving access to financing for expanding water and sanitation infrastructure, improving the
effectiveness of utility operations, working through public-private partnerships to improve household
hygiene and sanitation, and expanding sanitation services in the underserved pier-urban and urban areas in
selected countries.
Thus, Blue Revolution in any case, will improve the health condition, living standard and economic situation
of each and every individual related or not related to it directly. It will also help in bringing many developing
and under developed countries of the world on same platform. We hope that Blue Revolution, like Green
and White Revolution, will be a super success in India as well as in other parts of the world.
"Self Confidence is Must for Being Successful
Talent is always desirable to be a highly successful and recognized personality. Without quality and
diligence, no man on earth can ever expect to succeed in life. But together with the possession of true talent
and potential, one needs to have the requisite confidence to deliver ones qualitative performance that will
mark the very foundation of an appreciable and successful career.
Without a having a minimum level of confidence, a person simply cannot expect to achieve the true heights
of glory and triumph, no matter how much skillful he or she is or how much hard work is put in by the
person concerned.
The primary cause of such a situation is that even if the person is capable of achieving great heights in life,
he or she will definitely yield to the pressure and competition which have always been a dominating factor
in any form of test or contest.
It is at this particular juncture that the person needs to hold his or her nerves without getting nervous and
give his or her best with the required confidence and coolness.
It is often said that practice makes a man perfect but being confident at the right time is equally significant to
fulfill ones objective and serve the purpose successfully.
History bears the sole witness of many such daring, valiant and treacherous tasks none of which could have
been perfectly implemented without a reasonable amount of confidence and positivity.
For instance, all of us regard the Mughal emperor, Akbar, to be a great ruler and a courageous fighter. But if
he did not have the confidence of succeeding his father, Humayun who met a pre- mature death, at a tender
age of seventeen years not only to take care of a massive kingdom but also to fight out an extremely

powerful and shrewd enemy, Sher Shah Suri, who was both experienced and fierce as an invader, he could
have never gone on to become one of the most efficient rulers in the history of India.
Yet another striking example is that of the Queen of Jhansi, Rani Laxmi Bai, who had single handedly
shaken up the very platform of the British rulers in her province by waging a deadly battle against them and
that too, with her baby tightly tied around her back. But she never seemed to lack the confidence and
courage to strike into the very den of the foreign intruders.
Hence, one always needs to think positively and be optimistic in ones approach in order to achieve ones
goal successfully and for this; one really has to develop the required level of confidence. Thus, self
confidence is must for being successful.
" Grey Revolution in India
Grey Revolution in India is something which we can compare with the two sides of the same coin. There is a
community in the country which believes Grey Revolution is the nothing but the sad story of Indian
agriculture and farmers whereas the other community relates Grey Revolution with the fastest growing
infrastructure of the country. Who can decide which community is right or wrong?
Well, it is better to leave such decisive mattersto individual opinions and we could discuss here the main
argument behind Grey revolution in India.
Few people in our country believe that we are moving from green revolution to grey revolution. Through
green revolution, we achieved food security and self-sufficiency. It taught how to use high yielding
pesticides for better crop growth but as we all know, excess of anything is dangerous, the excessive use of
pesticides have also created much more harm than the good we achieved through green revolution.
The state of Punjab and Haryana, which were awarded for the best adaption of green revolution are now fast
heading towards desertification a process that leads to the inability of the lands to sustain the production
levels achieved at the height of the green revolution era. Same is the case with states like western Uttar
Pradesh, parts of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, whereagriculture faces a severe crisis in
sustainability from the second-generation environmental impacts. Intensive farming has destroyed the ability
of the lands to produce enough food, and the mining of ground water has pushed the water table to a
precarious level. The green revolution has already turned sour.
The changing color of agricultural land from green to gray, due to the deteriorating level of inland water
needs a new revolution to turn the table round and nothing but the title Grey Revolution suits the situation.
And to control this situation, groundwater depletion should be made an essential parameter for any
meaningful agriculture reforms. At this point of time when excessive pump-out of underground water has
already become a major political issue, the cropping pattern continues to play havoc with the irrigation
potential.
Even the lessons that we learnt from the other contract farming models are proving to be too expensive in
terms of water. For instance, the rose cultivation that was introduced in Karnataka a few years back required
212 inches of groundwater consumption in every hectare. Contract farming will, therefore, further exploit
whatever remains of the groundwater resources and is no alternative for now.
Thus, agriculture has not only become un-remunerative but also unproductive. To top of it, the process
towards corporate control of agriculture is destroying the ability of our land to sustain the crop
harvests. Thus, the new agricultural reforms on the anvil will encourage migration from rural to urban
centers where the farmers abandon agriculture and start searching menial jobs in cities and end up as
rickshaw pullers or daily wage laborers.
On the other hand, we have a segment that describes Gray Revolution as the advancement in the
infrastructure due to heavy investments which has led to an upswing in the Indian Economy. With the largest

highways construction programin the world, the mushrooming of suburbs, a boom in the retailing and
construction industry, and a surge in the demand for homes, no doubt a Grey Revolution is gathering
momentum in India. The supporters of this infrastructural revolution advocate the migration of rural
unskilled laborers to the cities as they believe they get a better life standard in cities compared to the villages
and the source of income for maintaining that standard comes from the same infrastructural grey revolution
as projects like these are the lifeline for job creation in a country like India, because they absorb rural labor
and unskilled workers and give them a much desired life with better living standard and education facility.
Infrastructural growth like construction of roads, housing projects, developments of public groundwork, etc.
have not only boosted our infrastructure growth but our economic development as well. It is a well-known
fact that fast growing economies like China is investing tremendously in making roads, railways, ports, etc.
and India's investment in these areas is like a small drop compared to Chinese ocean. But still, we have been
doing well and have the capacity of doing much better.
Supporters of Infrastructural Revolution or Gray Revolution say that India did have green revolution which
catapulted our food grain production and made itself self-sufficient and that also to an extent that we started
exporting our agro-based products to other countries. Similarly we had white revolution which made us selfsufficient in milk production. Now we are experiencing a grey(cement color) revolution which will boost
our infrastructure and will make us really a strong economy.
Thus, we could see how two arguments which are essentially different from each other on fundamental
grounds, still lead to the same conclusion that in the end it is the development of our country and country
people that matters the most.
"Body Language"
Before the start of the Second World War, Nazi Party leader Adolf Hitler, who wanted to build a strong
German empire dominating mainland Europe, was seeing a football match between Germany and Great
Britain. During the match Hitler walked off in between and spoke to his close confidante, his Propaganda
Minister Joseph Goebbels that it would be very difficult to defeat Britain in the Second World War. Hitler
remarked that the body language of the England team revealed the character, the do-or-die spirit and the
aggressiveness of the English nation and hence it wont be a child's play to defeat them.
Seeing the above instance must have surely explained to you the importance of Body Language, which is
an important aspect of human personality and a very powerful tool. Body language shows the strength and
vulnerability of a person.
A man in the Arm Forces and a civilian, both in their casual clothes, can be distinctly marked. The upright
posture, the confidence coupled with the walking style makes an army officer stand apart from the rest just
because of the body language.
It is true that human beings cannot live without each other as we are social beings. As soon as we come into
contact with another person we start communicating. For this we can make use of spoken and written
language. Through this we put our message across very clearly. However we can also communicate without
words. To make the meaning of our words clear we use body language. Thus, this is where the body
language comes into foreplay.
Body language is a form of non-verbal communication, which consists of body posture, gestures, facial
expressions, and eye movements. Humans send and interpret such signals almost entirely subconsciously.
Body language may provide clues as to the attitude or state of mind of a person.
For example, while speaking in a gathering or one-on-one basis the body language reveals a mans
personality in regards to his:
Confidence

Truthfulness
Liar
Timidity
Aggressiveness
Attentiveness
Boredom
Relaxed state
Pleasure or amusement
Intoxication
Whether he means business
Can an individual reach his goal
It is an accepted fact that body language occurs unconsciously. Yet the body language we use decides to a
large extent the quality of our communication. Our body language can attract as well as repulse a person.
Therefore it would be good to become conscious of our own and others' body language. We can learn to use
our body language for a purpose.
Body language has different meanings in different cultures. How we can interpret body language depends on
the situation, the culture, the relationship we have with the person as well as the gender of the other. This
means that there is not one signal that has the same meaning all over the world. If you do not take this into
account you may get yourself in some serious trouble. Body language is also interlinked with spoken
language and a whole pattern of behavior from a person.
Having a positive body language is not only restricted to attending job interviews but how you fare well in
your workplace. Understanding the body language of your colleagues and clients makes things easier for
you.
To leave a good impression behind, it is important that we know, and to a certain extent can control, our
body language. Let's say you're all set for your big interview. But before you even open your mouth, the rest
of your body has already spoken volumes.
Only a small percentage of communication involves actual words: 7%, to be exact. In fact, 55% of
communication is visual (body language, eye contact) and 38% is vocal (pitch, speed, volume, tone of
voice).
When we communicate with others, we express our thoughts and feelings not only through the words we
choose, but also through our tone of voice, facial expression and body language. In fact, many
communications experts believe that far more information is communicated non-verbally (without words)
than verbally (with words).
Body language includes many different aspects of our every day physical behaviour: the way we greet one
another; how we stand, how we sit or walk; the way we position our arms and legs or use our hands and eyes
are some of the most basic traits.
Body language plays a big role in intuition as it gives us messages about the other person that we can
interpret at an intuitive level. It is therefore necessary to get to know our own body language first. We should
learn about it so that we can recognize it in others as well as in ourselves.
For CAT aspirants and graduates who will be making their foray into the corporate world a controlled and
positive body language is a must. However it is not an overnight achievement and one needs to work hard to
attain a positive body language that remains calm and composed at every point of time.
The knowledge of non-verbal communication helps a manager understand the behaviour of others and thus
manage his workforce effectively. It is also a useful and powerful tool for handling serious and sensitive

situations tactfully. Non-verbal behaviour is more reliable than verbal expressions since it is the language of
the subconscious and is therefore difficult to manipulate.
Experienced managers are alert to notice harmony or dissent in gestures (non-verbal messages sent through
body language) in a group. One kinetic signal which is of tremendous importance for those in marketing and
advertising is the dilation of pupils. The pupil size unconsciously increases when you see a thing of great
interesta sign to the marketing man that the product has been liked.
Counselors, therapists and recruitment consultants can use kinesics to their advantage while conducting
interviews. There are many giveaways: fall of face, change of facial expression (guilt); sucking thumb,
biting nails, chewing or sucking the end of a pen or piece of paper (insecurity, stress, lack of confidence);
looking away while talking (unsure); touching fingertips and forming an inverted 'V' (self-confidence);
maintaining eye contact while talking (confidence).
Gesture interpretation is, however, not meant to infer your intrinsic nature or personality. It should be used
only to understand the behaviour, feelings or emotions of a person at a particular time. Gestures should be
read in clusters of signals being received from various parts of the body.
So, if you want to know more about what people around you are really thinking here are some of the body
language traits you need to know:
During a meeting or presentation, you are being listened to intently if the listener is keeping his left hand
over the right one, with his palms down. However, if the right hand covers the left one, the person is
probably disagreeing with what is being said and is waiting for an opportunity to interrupt.
In a presentation a person may also pull his earlobe at the time he is just about to interrupt.
Unblinking eyes, looking fixedly, feet flat on floor, body tense but vertical are some gestures that show an
inattentive listener who is trying to feign attention.
Rubbing behind the ear or touching (or rubbing) the nose gently with the index finger shows dislike, doubt,
uncertainty or the inability to avoid or answer a question.
By nodding his head, the listener conveys that he is listening and encourages the speaker to go on. Rapid
nods of the head, or a gentle, rhythmic tapping of the head or stomach or any other thing within his approach
with the hand may mean that the listener wants the speaker to finish quickly.
The stroking of chin or nose or pulling of beard, accompanied by an occasional narrowing down of eyes as
if looking at a distance, may indicate that the person is evaluating in order to make a wise decision.
Keeping your hands stiffly by your side or stuck in your pockets can give the impression that you're
insecurewhether you are or not.
Avoiding looking at people maybe simply because you're too busy can lead people to think you're being
less than honest with them. You may be slouching because you're tired, but people may read it as a sign that
you're not interested.
People want to feel as though you are speaking to them directly or that they are the most important person
in the room during your conversation. Breaking eye contact is a surefire way to break the connection.
Don't let anything come between you and your listeners. Crossing your arms, standing behind a podium or
chair, or talking to someone from behind a computer monitor is examples of blocking, which prevents a real
connection from taking place.
Stand or sit tall. Poor posture is often associated with a lack of confidence or a lack of engagement or
interest. Leaning back in your chair can give the impression that you're lazy, unmotivated, or dispassionate
about the position.
Animate while you speak. This means let your hands do some of the talking. Great speakers use hand
gestures more than on average.
Unbuttoning of coat during an important discussion is a sign of openness, friendliness or willingness to
reach an agreement.
The world's best business communicators have strong body language: a commanding presence that reflects
confidence, competence, and charisma. They punctuate nearly every sentence with a hand gesture which
showcases the importance of effective hand gestures.

Infact, dignitaries all over the world are studied on the basis of their body language. For instance: US
President Barack Obamas visit to India along with his wife Michelle Obama showcased his willingness to
foster good relations with India and also his perfect chemistry with his wife during the three day visit.
A large number of people are starting to attend special sessions on controlled body behavior and take advice
from expert sociologists. Learning good body language, such as living styles of people of foreign people, is
important during interaction in any sort of global community.
Due to this body language experts are gaining worldwide recognition. Understanding body language is a
vast subject and a book by itself. It has become a science. But it's all learnable. So work on your body
language. Pay as much attention to it as the words you use, and gauge your influence.

"Management of Failure
The bitter taste of failure is much bitterer than the sweet taste of victory can ever be. This is perhaps one of
the biggest reasons why failure scares people much more than victory inspires them. The truth is that there
are not many people; rather there are none, who say that they wish to taste failure in life. Everybody wishes
to succeed. However, the irony is that the success and failure are not always guaranteed by our efforts or our
desires. Sometimes, even when people give their best shot, they fail at what they do and this is what pushes
them into tasting the dreaded. How do people deal with failure when this happens? Is some kind of people
more successful at dealing with failure than some other kind of people? Does dealing with failure leads to
anything positive?
There are much kind of people in these world- optimists, pessimists, impatient, determined and dedicated,
stubborn and obstinate etc. The way a person deals with his failure depends largely on the kind of person
that they are. For instance, an optimist will see something good in his failure and make it to be his stepping
stone to success.
On the contrary, a pessimist will essentially become more wary and stop taking risks all together. An
impatient man will cry and whine for a while and then either, simply give up or get back on his feet soon
again and give the whole thing another try. Likewise, a stubborn and obstinate man will deny the mistake
that he made and perhaps, blame someone else for his own failure.
A determined and dedicated man might take some time to deal with his failure but when they bounce back,
they come back with a firm mind to achieve success. The truth of the matter is that each person has a
different way of dealing with their failure. However, the question that needs to be asked is- Is there any best
way of management of failure?
Though every persons interpretation of management of failure remains different, there are certain things
that a person can do to manage failure or deal with it in a much better way. The first thing to do when one
fails is to look back in retrospect and analyze the point where one went wrong. This is important to ensure
that the mistake that the person made in the past, stays in the past and does not get repeated again ever in the
present or the future.
Once a person knows where they went wrong, it is also important to embrace the mistake that they made.
Until and unless, a person accepts that they actually made mistakes, they can never find any room for
correction or betterment. Lastly, one should always remember the statement that Henry Ford, one of the
greatest businessmen of our times made, Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more
intelligently. Often, failure creates a kind of dread in the minds of people which pulls them back from
endeavoring or aspiring high.
The biggest task in the management of failure is to not to let this dread or skepticism rule our minds. If a
person is not able to submerse the doubt in ones capabilities that often arises out of failure, the chances are

that the failure will have a more deepening effect on the person. The only way to manage failure is to make
further attempts. Giving up or choosing to never take the plunge wont serve any good purpose instead will
only provide prominence to the depressing effects of failure.
Thomas Edison, one the greatest inventors of our times, the man who created the electric bulb, phonograph
and the motion picture cinema, had to often deal with failure while making his inventions. The only thing
that kept him going was his willingness to achieve, his faith in self and the determination that never allowed
him to give up. Thomas Edison, when questioned about the failures he experienced while on his way to
success, said, I have not failed. I have learned 9,999 ways that wont work.
The life of this great man tells us that our ability to manage the failure depends very largely on the way we
choose to look at things and the perspective that we create. The truth is that the failure as well as the success
is more in the mind than they are in reality. To be able to manage failure or for that matter, even success,
what a person needs to manage first is his own mind.
"Role of Opposition Is Viewed As Negative In Indian Polity
Although Opposition has the key role to play in the democratic setup of governance its responsibility is most
often seen in the negative perspective when it comes to define that in the Indian political system. There are
so many factors associated with this understanding of the negative role of the Opposition in terms of Indian
political system. It is mainly due to the immature approach of the politicians and their least concern about
the prime step of serving the nation. Regional approaches often dominate on the national issues are other key
elements hence the situation go so ineffective.
This is an important factor that India still lacks for a politically mature class that could guarantee that both
the ruling and opposition parties offer the desired inputs when the issue is to serve the nation with the
political vision for its sustainable growth. It is ironical though that although India remains one of the leading
democracies in the world with best of sophistication applied for electoral exercise today but its parliament
has hardly seen any practical involvement and activeness of the Opposition members especially when it is to
join hands for some constructive approach.
The world media has witnessed many a times that the Opposition in the Indian polity is always in a
destructive mode hence the approach is not so appealing and politics has hardly been brought into the
rational use for a realistically effective role of those sitting against the ruling members. Circumstances differ
in India due to many regional parties often dominating the national ones.
The localized issues and lack of consistency in the Opposition parties fails to bring an effective outcome of
such wonderfully defined political system. The realm of political life in India therefore requires best
redefining of its role because Opposition always has equal role to play in democracy like any ruling party do
for the decisions taken for the sake of a brighter future of the nation.
Opposition parties could dissolve the governments on various issues concerned if they fail to address the
national interest. They can even make the ruling parties understand whether they deserve to rule the country
or not. As they are equally powerful political leaders with their status of being the elected members of the
parliament they must lead and reflect the society from where they have been elected. It is their key
responsibility to ensure that the political ills are rectified with the additional role of watching the
government for the peoples interest.
The problem with the Indian Opposition politics is that it often becomes the advocates of cheap and no
nonsense gimmicks so that they achieve mean benefits. They have literally reduced their own roles in the
democratic setup. Their roles are always seen in the negative perspective because they have failed to
complete their basic duties as the leaders representing their respective constituencies. How can one think of
expecting more from them when they couldnt realize their existing roles?

An unfortunate aspect is that although India is world's largest democracy but there is still not the desired
transparency in its democratic functioning, say for example the ineffective role of an Opposition party as
well as the monopolizing characteristics of ruling parties which often showcase through bossism of them
being in the majorityand ruling the country. When such is the scenario then most political decisions would
be taken without the thorough observation or assessment which otherwise make it impossible to offer any
room to the reforms.
Democracy always seeks reforms. Being honest individual in politics is questioned in the present political
scene of India. No matter one represents the ruling parties or the opposition the questions arises on the
credibility aspect. The hoodwinking done on various stages is a common scene in the democratic setup of
this country. The strategies an Opposition party often makes for the anti-incumbency of ruling party might
enhance their own winning prospect but the country as a whole moves towards the path which is bleak,
politically immature and economically unsustainable hence there is nothing to bring progress.
The Indian Opposition leaders are still not so much outspoken which is the primary need of the political
system in which it is assured that unbiased decisions are taken for smooth functioning of government and
keeping everything right in order. As such zeal is hardly seen in their role it is still assumed that they are
least productive so negated for political aspiration. The political pundits hardly see in the Opposition
anything constructive in India. The irony of the fate is that an outspoken ruling party turns a pessimist once
fail to remain in the government and told to perform the role of an Opposition leader.
There is ample scope to realize the role of Opposition in the Indian polity and crosscheck various defects
concerned. It would prove helpful to ensure a sustainable democratic government runs the country. The role
of the fourth estatemedia and judiciary remain pivotal to bring everything right in order so that desired
change can be expected and steps are taken to help Indian democracy play its role effectively.
Most often Opposition parties show lack of interest when they see that their participation might impact
negatively on the parties concerned. They wont be able to take the bold step and look for the overall
advantage which the country may get by supporting the ruling parties. The Opposition parties in the Indian
democratic setup only presume that they should keep opposing to fulfill their duties keenly.
Such steps cause lack of integrity hence they raise finger on political farsightedness of Opposition that can
minimize democracy. Situation often turns so bad that no decision is the best decision scenario arises as
ruling parties fail to convince the no-nonsense opposition that they must observe and support or negate
anything initiated by them on the basis of reasoning rather than just being in the opposition to oppose as and
when such situations are beforehand.
"First Impression is the last impression
William Hazlitt, the British Writer once said, First Impressions are often the truest, as we find (not
infrequently) to our cost, when we have been wheedled out of them by plausible professions or studied
actions. A man's look is the work of years; it is stamped on his countenance by the events of his whole life,
nay, more, by the hand of nature, and it is not to be got rid of easily. The truth of the matter is that the first
impression can actually play a pivotal role in the way a person perceives you or continue to perceive you in
future.
To say that the first impression is the last would perhaps be an exaggeration because like everything else,
one can actually correct their mistake. However, one will have to make strong efforts and waste a lot of time,
to be able to correct the mistake that they made in the first place. Thus, it is best that a person takes much
caution and lays much emphasis on making the first impression prim and proper.
The question is- Why is the first impression so important? How does the first impression play an important
role in creating an impression that can last for a very long time or for that matter, forever? The answer is
simple. When we meet someone, we have never met before; they do not have any clue about who we are.
Since they do not know us or have never met us before, they do not have absolutely any knowledge about

the person that we are. So, they judge us on the basis of what they see and hear. Everything else becomes
secondary. The things that we say, the way in which we act and everything that indicates anything about our
personality lays the foundation on which the other person builds an idea about our character or personality.
Once the foundation has been made, it becomes very difficult to change it. Thus, the first impression is
extremely important because it creates the granite foundation for the way in which people perceive us. It
provides people with the glasses through which they see us. This is precisely the reason why people should
make every effort to create a good first impression.
How can one create a good first impression? Or, what are the things that a person should keep in mind when
they go to meet someone important for the first time? To start with, one of the things to remember always is
that a persons state of mind can make a huge difference. If you are nervous and feeling unconfident about
yourself, the chances are that you will be unable to present yourself well and smartly. Thus, before you walk
in for your first meeting, make sure that you have done your homework well.
Prepare yourself mentally and physically so that you rebound with confidence and appeal. The second thing
that is noticed about a person in the first meeting is the things that he says. What a person says reflects the
way he thinks and the opinion he has on things. The words that come out of your mouth are a mirror to your
personality. Thus, one should always take time and think twice before they say something that comes across
as totally absurd, foolish or wrong. On your first meeting, keep your best manners, charms, confidence and
intellect with you as they will help you a lot.
How does creating the right first impression help a person in his corporate professional life? We live in an
age where competition is not only high, it is cut throat. If you want to get ahead, you will have to present
yourself as nothing but the very best. A good first impression will bring you out in the eyes of the top most
important people and from there, you can work your way to the top through hard work and labor. The first
impression will help you in establishing yourself as someone who can be trusted and is worthy of attention.
One does not get a second chance to create a first impression. Everyone gets just a single chance and they
have to make the best out of it. If you spoil your chance, you will have to work very hard and for a very long
time to reconstruct your image. However, if you hit the bulls eye in your first chance, it is quite likely that
you will still be forgiven if you mess up once or twice. In profession life, a good first impression can open to
doors to many other things.
Thus, on your first meeting, make sure that you put your best step forward. Let people know that you
understand what you are doing and that you mean business. Analyze everything twice in your mind before
you say it out loud.
" Aggression is required but values less
We live in a highly competitive world. The competition exists everywhere. Every person is trying hard to
outshine some and prove themselves in the eyes of others. In such a world, the boundaries between what are
wrong and right has been blurred. The value of virtues has been deteriorating. The new virtues of this new
highly competitive world are the things that enable one to move forward in life and achieve success. One of
the spawns of the fast moving, hectic and competitive life is Aggression.
Aggression is a trait that has become more and more visible in people over the years. The scourges of ever
increasing pressure and sky high expectations has led to the birth of aggression and most people who work
in an environment rife with pressure, competition and over-board expectation tend to become aggressive in
their professional as well as personal life. Exceptions exist, always. The question, however is- Is aggression
something right? Does aggression lead you to a good life? Should one proudly possess or try to inculcate
aggression in oneself?
Before we can actually discuss the merits and demerits of aggression, it is actually quite important to
understand how this particular attribute, manifests itself in the lives of the people. How do people show

aggression in their personal lives? When the work pressure is surmounting and the deadlines approach the
end point, the bosses at the offices start to shout, yell and create havoc for the employees who work under
them. Sometimes, the work pressure and expectation to do better than the best, compels the bosses to take
the evil role with their hunters. It can be easily noticed that almost every employee uses aggression over the
ones who work under them to get the job done.
The aggression games do not end at the office. Some people carry them home. A research has proved that
people who suffer from extra work pressure and sufferable work environment do not lead a happy home life
as they carry their mental aggression home. Such people are more likely to yell and shout over kids and wife
at home. Having known the kind of behavior that aggression induces, it is easier to answer whether
possessing aggression is good or bad? Is it a vice or a virtue?
Aggression is neither a vice nor a virtue. It is neither bad nor good. Its expression as good or bad depends
entirely on how a person handles it and channels the aggression inside them. The truth is that one cannot
completely avoid the aggression that one receives involuntarily through the work pressure. However, one
can use this aggression to either build up things or destroy them. Aggression is essentially a kind of trapped
energy.
Most people waste this trapped energy by letting it explode in wrong ways- yelling at others, complaining of
laxity, punishing people more often than required. When people ventilate their aggression in this way, it
leads to incompetent and unhappy working conditions at office. This leads to incompetency. Thus, this kind
of expression of aggression is harmful not only to other people but to the person indulging in it too and it
should, therefore, be completely avoided.
On the contrary, some people understand the art of turning their aggression (i.e. the trapped energy) into
something more meaningful. These people instead of releasing their anger by shouting and yelling at their
subservient employees, use it to inspire themselves and inspire others. These people understand that getting
aggressive or tempered will not lead them to anywhere good. Hence, these people use the aggression to
derive them and use it as a motivation factor to keep going and keep doing their work in the best possible
way. Not only do these people inspire themselves, they also keep other motivated by regularly inspiring
them with their motivational words.
Aggression may not be necessarily wrong. There have been many great people in the past who were
aggressive but they utilized their aggression to create good things. The famous America revolutionary Che
Guevara was an extremely aggressive man who utilized his aggression to serve the poor in the country and
bring about an economic and social revolution. Similarly, in India, Sardar Bhagat Singh, Vallabh Bhai Patel
and the likes were known to be aggressive people but they used their aggression for a right cause- to get
freedom for their country.
Thus, aggression like many other things is just a reaction to the conditions surrounding us. Turning this
reaction into something meaningful is an art that people need to learn. If they dont, they will continue to
ventilate their anger in ways that are unwelcoming and destructive.
The Entrepreneurial Mind Set"

The origin of the word Entrepreneur is from the French word entreprendre. French for "to undertake". It
should be noticed that the word accentuate on an attempt to act, and not on the end product of that action.
Every manager of an organization should think like an entrepreneur and act like a leader by making every
employee feel like a business partner as it will motivate them to do their best. It will not only bestow upon
them a sense of ownership in the organization, but will make them feel as an indispensible part of the
organization and you will have the most valuable asset of your organization performing their level best for
the benefit of the organization.
Encouraging an entrepreneurial mindset goes beyond profits and benefits. Its a motivating attitude instilled
in others by you, the manager. A manager with an entrepreneurial mind set is a great strategist and a master

at getting others excited about helping him grow the business. He should make each and every member of
his team an entrepreneur who activates his intuitions and sees the entire task as a whole responsibility, who
can understand the entirety of the task assigned, the oneness of it and the integrated unity of it as opposed to
merely their own assigned parts to perform.
In todays competitive and swiftly changing work environment, employees should know far more about the
tasks and projects than just how to do their specific jobs. So the manager must help his team members in
understanding the entire task or project and its completion process, so that they could gain a clearer
perspective of how the organization operates, learn what the competition is doing and develop the ability to
take intelligent risks and to be creative at the same time. By doing so, the manager helps his employees feel
a sense of ownership and pride in their work and a sense of commitment to the organization and its goals.
Some more useful ways by which a manager could instill an entrepreneurial mind set in his team could be:
To Experiment The manager should challenge his team members to push a project forward, without
analyzing it himself. And protect his team from those who may question this approach.
By Broadcasting Results He should share the results of this experimental project with other leaders in his
company and encourage them to support the project. This will also popularize this method in the
organization and other leaders and managers will also start following the pioneer.
By Managing it closely - The manager should also observe the process throughout to ensure that the costs
never exceed the organization's acceptable budget, so the team can clearly see the upside of acting fast.
When the manager helps his employees think in terms of the big picture and understand the domino effect of
every action they take, he put the seed of an entrepreneurial mindset in them which creates a winning and
motivated team and a successful organization as a consequence.
Entrepreneurial mind set can help the employees of, virtually, any field or profession. The currently
available products and services in the area of expertise of the organization, despite of doing well, always
have possibility of improvement to serve the customers better.
A true leader only can instill the entrepreneurial mind set in his team. There are some key characteristic of a
true leader like he is driven to succeed, a self-starter and go-getter, i.e., he is so motivated to achieve his
goals that he takes initiatives rather than waiting for someone to issue instructions. He always sees
opportunities where others can see problems. He bears responsibility for his own actions, instead of playing
the blame-game. He thrives on change and welcomes it.
When an organization survives and thrives, its generally because the managers and leaders of that
organization know how to change with changing scenario. And sometimes they even keep ahead of the
changes around them. Thats certainly so when they allow or even encourage innovative thinking among
their employees. That means that managers need to help their employees feel motivated for developing outof-the-box thinking.
"You Must Have Can Do Attitude
Attitude is the ultimate maker or breaker of the ideas that could translate into the practicalities. Having a
can do attitude therefore leads for the way to achieve targets and get something outstanding even while the
situations are not favorable for individuals. Every single step matters much for that the minds have to play
greater roles in the whole system to move ahead. The positivism of this attitude develops leadership quality
so keeping it intact is always important. Just keep thinking about doing something positive and even though
you may not have any avenues. Once you stop from thinking your attitude would be in the changing mode.
Aggressiveness therefore works for developing zeal.

The can do attitude provides a platform for the fight-flight response habit so the steps you would take to
struggle with an unfavorable situation and overcoming some of the toughest phases will be possible and life
will be more meaningful with the following of right approach. Perceiving the threats, observing many
factors and understanding the situations are all crucial things for that positivism remains supreme and highly
value oriented. The can do attitude therefore augur some sense of responsibility in you hence you develop
an eagerness to accept challenges more impactfulwhile taking things easilyand to develop a sense that
of course situations could be tough but there is always solution of the problems.
The interaction made and approaches towards the good life can construe the can do attitude of any
individual concerned. It always proves helpful to cope up different situations through taking the firm
decision rather than feeling as if leading life in the jungles aimlessly. The positive attitude of all kinds
though must get translated into one which helps to receive proper response for an assured output. Keep the
undisciplined use of negative reinforcement techniques that may have in practice till this moment. A can
do attitude ensures that you are willing to counter any type of traumatism and are ready to apply and
experience something which had never been practiced earlier.
There are the situations of extreme stresses when motivation plays important role. You cant move ahead in
such scenario if the approach is unrealistic and you are unable to take decisions systematically. These are the
stages when firm determination plays crucial role. Train yourself to overcome any type of extremely
stressful situations in your life. Your approach towards it must remain unique especially for the factors
related to lifestyle and dealing with various types of situations on daily basis in both personal and
professional fronts. Once you develop the "can do" attitude and apply it in life its impact starts to reflect
through the variegated and positive outlook of yours.
So, the need is to make the most of your life so that others can feel the difference and accept you to live to
the fullest. If you have such attitude you are in the position to mould life for a brighter tomorrow. It is not
denying that life is but a long journey in which encountering various situations remain the usual
phenomenon. Make your life a process which you enjoy the most and explore accordingly.
The moment you start worrying about the destination your willingness and attitude is overshadowed by
pessimism. It is very important though to keep one ready for all types of situations by hook or by crook.
Making mistakes is the part of life. One learns several new things and explores some of the most important
and outstanding activities if do mistakes but explore for the new and refined one. You literally prepare
yourself for some big deal in future if take an initiative and believe that you can do that. Make the lifes
journey more meaningful by accepting your previous mistakes and learning a new lesson from that with this
determination that you wont repeat that the next time.
Once you do that and move ahead firmly you also develop the scope for a new beginning in your life. So
you should be thankful that with each failure you also had some chance to learn and explore some of the
newest and very powerful things. Learning lessons from the right things are good, equally important is
taking mistakes positively and making the life come back to teach you again and again until you are in the
position to understand that the desired target is fulfilled and you are ready to achieve something that is
extremely powerful for which you must have the can do attitude and make it more useful through
unbiased exploration.
Life shouldnt always be taken so seriously if you want to explore creativity in it and apply anything that
might look useless but still has ample meaning. An uptight person might turn too much stressed while life is
taken so seriously. Keep laughing, have fun and be assured that your can do attitude has ample room for
improvement. Do understand the fact that there is always an imperfection in life so nothing comes accurate
in life. The scope for gaining and exploring newer aspects are always with you.
The need is to understand this reality that your life comes in all shapes and sizes so you have good avenues
to explore worthy as well as unworthy things. Firm up and take the initiatives with such zeal so that you are
the one person who can do things sophistically by surpassing hurdles. The only thing that you want is

moving ahead with a pace which brings charismatic impact on life. Make the life more attractive through
meaningful positive attitude in it.
Survival is not the only need in your life. You have to move a step ahead by thinking of living well with an
idea that respectable lifestyle matters much for you. It is necessary to incorporate factors that can turn your
life beautiful with perfect approach for individualistic and social keenness. This all will be possible only
when your can do attitude helps you bring things into right order.
Do we maintain Life & Work Balance

A topic like "Work-Life balance" is the best food for thought. You can brood, debate, discuss and pass
judgments over it but are you sure you practice it in your daily life?
We know how important it is to maintain a Life-and-Work-Balance, but do we actually take it seriously?
Most of us dont ever feel like we have worked for enough time and work longer and longer hours to get all
our jobs done. What we should always remember is that if we dont maintain a good life & work balance,
theres a real threat of burn out. It will not only cause emotional and physical stress, but will also affect
everything we do our tasks at work and our tasks at home.
Its a fact that we cant do everything for everyone; we must understand that we cant be perfect in all
aspects of our life and work. The best we can do is to try - try to please people related to our work and our
life by maintaining a commendable work & life balance. That does not mean we should not step up and do
the needful to accomplish an important task, but we must also think of our personal self and make sure we
take time out to refresh.
One can maintain this balance by getting organized. Time management is the main essence when it comes to
maintaining work-life balance. Spending more time in office doesn't necessarily translate into productivity.
One who doesnt have a good work-life balance can be successful but not happy. To achieve both, it's
necessary to focus on four life quadrants: work, family, friends and self. All four are equally important. If we
focus on all these and maintain discipline, it's more-or-less a done deal.
This fact was illustrated in an excellent way by a professor of philosophy in his class. When he stood before
his class, students noticed that he had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he
picked up a very large and empty pickle jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the
students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.
So, the Professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The
pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full.
They agreed it was.
The Professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up
everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "yes".
The Professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the
jar, effectively filling the space between the grains of sand.
"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.
The golf balls are the important things--your family, your children, your health, your friends, and your
favorite passions - things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be
full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car. The sand is
everything else -the small stuff.

"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The
same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the
things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your
children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play your favorite sport.
There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first, the things
that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand." One of the students raised her hand and inquired
what the coffee represented. The Professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no
matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."
Therefore, after this beautifully explained scenario, we must look at life beyond professional achievements.
We strive for professional success where we dedicate ourselves to the job and at the end of the year our list
of achievements gives us a promotion or a hike. What we can do is to have a list of personal goals as well
and keep striving to achieve them. Personal competency with respect to our family and personal
enhancement is as important as professional competency. This will keep our loved ones as happy as we try
to keep our boss. This certainly will provide us with our much needed Life & Work Balance.
" Work & Life Balance
There used to be a time when the domain of work and personal life were clearly distinct. But with
globalization becoming the norm of the day the chances of work encroaching into ones personal life and
vice versa has become alarming.
If you think one day you will be lucky enough to get everything set and then relax, you are bound to be
disappointed. Life will be always demanding and may not slow up any time soon. Learning to strike a
balance between work and life is an ongoing art. Despite the never ending quest for Work-Life Balance it
has been cropping in our mind what does it actually mean.
Worklife balance is a broad concept including proper prioritizing between "work" (career and ambition) on
the one hand and "life" (health, pleasure, leisure, family and spiritual development) on the other. It is also
related to "lifestyle balance" and "life balance".
Sadly, there is no perfect one-size fits all, balance you are looking for. It is different for each of us because
we all have different priorities and different lives. Trying to schedule an equal number of hours for each of
your various work and personal activities seems unrealistic and robotic. Life is and should be more fluid
than that.
The paradox is that right balance for you today will probably be different tomorrow say when you are single
or when you get married, or when you start a new career or are nearing your retirement. Work-life balance is
a two-pronged approach. The other prong of work-life balance, which many individuals overlook, relates to
what individuals do for themselves.
Similarly, the right work-life balance is different for an MBA aspirant, a graduate, a corporate or a women
executive. Our haphazard lifestyle has put us in the paraphrase of I am running all the time.
At the core of an effective work-life balance are two key concepts that are relevant to all of us. They are
daily achievement and enjoyment. Why do you want a better income, a new house, a good MBA college or a
dream job? Achievement and Enjoyment are the front and back of the coin of value in life. Trying to live a
one sided life is why so many "successful" people are not nearly as happy as they should be.
Engraining a fuller meaning of these two concepts is like half the battle won to define a positive Work-Life
Balance. Most of us already have a good grasp on the meaning of achievement. But enjoyment is not
restricted to simply ha ha. It means pride, satisfaction, happiness, celebration, love, a sense of well being, in
a nutshell it means all the joys of living.

Being an MBA aspirant or student you need to know that you have to crack the competitive exams, cope up
with the increasing exam pressure, submitting thesis on time as well as taking a good care of your health and
enjoying time with your friends.
On the other hand corporate world today has become exceedingly demanding. The changing economic
conditions and social demands have changed the nature of work throughout the world. Within the ramped up
competition of a 24/7 business cycle, work-life balance is becoming unbalanced. The imbalance also has a
negative impact in the personal life of working people- increasing number of divorces, infertility due high
stress levels, advent of nuclear families etc.
While we strike for a work life balance, we are not merely balancing our profession and family, we are also
balancing our mental and status quo and thereby balancing our emotional intelligence, which is the worldly
ability to manage you and to handle others. This benefits the company in the long-run.
Similarly, women work force now constitutes a significant percentage of the total work force in any
organization today. Women executives have to deal with- running a home, doing daily chores like
cooking/cleaning, raising family and handle the tight deadlines at home and work. The society over the years
has recognized women's need to legal and financial independence. But the transition to motherhood still
continues to have practical and emotional consequences. It also affects their professional stature when they
return to work.
Organizations today to some extent have realized the importance of the employee-work-life balance and its
importance in the efficiency of the employees. They can help facilitate work-life balance for their employees
through work-life programs and training. In offices also, efforts are being made to provide friendly work
atmosphere for the employees by providing all sorts of refreshments available for the employee.
The employees are given the freedom to have their own ways of doing the work. They are given the
assignments with deadlines and they can have their own schedule as far as they are meeting the deadlines.
Some organizations have gone to the extent of involving the families of the employees by introducing
maternity leaves / paternity leaves and various holiday packages and insurance schemes. Organizations now
focus on grooming their employees who are now not considered merely a work force but regarded as the
'Human Capital' of the organization.
To maintain work-life balance is an arduous task. But still it is within ones reach, if one follows the simple
tips listed here:
1.Plan your agenda: Start your day by taking care of the little things you have to do at home. A little
planning is essential. Taking care of home needs in advance will help you to be less tensed during working
hours. Strike a work-life balance by evaluating your work-home relationships like listing out the amount of
time you are spending at work and home.
2.Organize: Everything in your business should be set up using logical systems so anyone needing anything
can find it when they need it.
3.Prioritize ruthlessly: The secret to booking your time effectively boils down to knowing what's important
and what can wait. Ask questions that help you determine the level of urgency.
4.Don't overbook: Things rarely go according to a prearranged agenda. Don't try to plan on doing too many
things. Assume that only 50% of the things you plan on doing today will actually get done. If you don't,
you'll just waste valuable time trying to find out why things didn't happen.
5.Be Productive: Switch on to the work mode when you are at work. Be sure that you shut off the part of the
brain that makes you worry about your home life. Remind yourself that it is work time and you need to be
most productive.

6.Learn to say no: One of the biggest land mines to effective time management is recognizing you don't have
to agree to everything and with everyone. Use your priority criteria to identify requests that simply aren't
worth your time.
7.Everything is not perfect: Time management isn't an exact science. Do what you can and enjoy whatever
time you spend more pleasantly or productively.
8.Focus on Home Life: While you are enjoying your home life, try to avoid intruding into work life by
checking emergency e-mails or answering work- related phone calls. The best way to focus on home life
will be crumbled to pieces if you intrude into your work life while at home.
Hence, the concept of Work life balance is becoming more and more relevant in a never-dynamic working
environment. The role played by the individual is as important as that of the organization in managing this
tumultuous see saw. One of the best approaches to this is by the use of one's emotional intelligence.
Be sure to remember that striking a work-life balance is a continuous process, rather than a one-shot deal.
Work and home life should be balanced. If there is a tilt in the balance there are chances of soaring stress
levels.
"Carbon Credit-A ray of bright future piercing the clouds of dawn
Carbon credit is a generic term for any tradable certificate or permit that represents the right to emit one
metric ton of carbon dioxide or the mass of another greenhouse gas with a carbon dioxide (tCO2e)
equivalent to 1 metric ton of carbon dioxide.
Environment protection has evolved as a major concern for the people around the globe, over a period of
time. Green houses gases are one of the major concern of the environment protection activists. Burning of
fossil fuels is one of the major causes of industrial greenhouse gas emissions, especially for power, steel,
cement, textile, fertilizer and many other industries which rely on fossil fuels like, coal, electricity derived
from coal, oil and natural gases.
The major greenhouse gases emitted by these industries are carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, methane, hydro
fluorocarbons (HFCs), etc. All of these gases increase the atmosphere's ability to trap infrared energy or
helps in depletion of ozone layer, thus affect the climate, and create abject conditions to live.
The concept of carbon credits came into existence as a result of increasing awareness of the need for
controlling emissions of several greenhouse gases. The IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change)
observed that, the policies that can provide a real or implicit price of carbon could create significant benefits
for producers and consumers to invest in low-GHG products, technologies and processes. Such policies may
include economic instruments, government funding and regulation.
IPCC also noticed that a tradable permit system should be one of the policies instruments that can prove to
be environmentally effective in the industrial sector, till the time there are reasonable levels of predictability
regarding the initial allocation mechanism and long-term price.
The mechanism was formalized in the Kyoto Protocol. It is an international agreement between more than
170 countries in which the market mechanisms were agreed through the subsequent accorders. And hence,
the concept of Carbon credits came into being.
Kyoto Protocol was made under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The treaty was negotiated in Kyoto, Japan in December 1997, which was later opened for signature on
March 16, 1998, and finally closed on March 15, 1999. The agreement came into force on February 16,
2005, under which demanded the industrialized countries to reduce their collective emissions of greenhouse
gases.

India signed and ratified the Protocol in August, 2002 and since then has emerged as a world leader in
reduction of greenhouse gases by adopting Clean Development Mechanisms (CDMs). It has been recently
reported in media that the Delhi Metro has become the first rail project in the world to earn carbon credits
worth 47 crore Rupees for next seven years. The UN body under the Kyoto Protocol has certified that the
DMRC has helped in reducing emission of harmful gases.
Carbon credits and carbon markets are components of national and international attempts to mitigate the
growth of greenhouse gases (GHGs). As one carbon credit is equal to one metric ton of carbon dioxide, or in
some markets, carbon dioxide equivalent gases, carbon trading is nothing but an application of emissions
trading approach. Upper limits for Greenhouse gas emissions are set and then markets allocate the emissions
among the group of regulated sources.
The goal of carbon credit system is totally focused to encourage market mechanisms to drive industrial and
commercial processes in a direction favoring low emissions or less carbon intensive approaches. Since GHG
mitigation projects generate credits, this approach can also be used to finance carbon reduction schemes
between trading partners and around the world.
There are so many companies who sell carbon credits to commercial and individual customers who are
interested in lowering their carbon emissions voluntarily.
These carbon off-setters purchase carbon credits from an investment fund or a carbon development company
that has aggregated there credits from individual projects. Buyers and sellers can also use an exchange
platform to trade, such as the Carbon Trade Exchange, which is quite similar to stock exchange for carbon
credits.
The carbon credit system also encourages afforestation. For example, if an environmentalist group plants
enough number of trees to reduce emissions by one ton, the group shall be awarded a credit. If a steel
producer has an emissions quota of 10 tons, but is expecting to produce 11 tons, it can then purchase this
carbon credit from the environmental group. Even though a company can buy carbon credits, yet the upper
limit determined cant be surpassed.
The carbon credit system seeks to reduce emissions by having countries honor, their emission quotas and
offer incentives for being below them.
Carbon Credit is indeed a great step towards environment protection, yet it must be modified from time to
time to meet the existing needs of environment protection. One thing is certain that carbon credit is not just
a term in the field of environmental practices but is also a gift to the mankind.
"Cricket Vs Other Games in India
Its bitter but very true that one single game blotting many others games in India. Cricket fever
overshadowed our national sport Hockey. There is no question of any debate that cricket is killing other
sports in our country. Indians eat, live, sleep, talk and walk cricket. Theoretically we all know that hockey is
our national game but in practical vision its cricket maniac all over.
No one remembers that in Shooting, Gagan Narang won four Gold medals in Common Wealth Games2010,
or Indian World Champion wrestler Sushil kumar has won the gold medal in FILA 2010 World Wrestling
Championships or Olympic bronze medals won by tennis star Leander Paes (Atlanta, 1996), but Anil
Kumble's 10-wicket haul, Harbhajan's hat-trick, and Virender Sehwag's 309 will be evergreen in memory.
Its a common sight that young children are playing perfect cricket with bat and ball in lanes, streets, gardens.
But people dont know how to play other sports or what are the rules for other games? A budding sports kid
who is almost as tall as the bat he holds claims that some day he would be like "Tendulkar". Why not like
"Ajit pal signh" or Dhayan chand"? Answer is very simple that they dont know about these heroes. We
cannot play here any blame game because its our society who is responsible for this situation.

Cricket in India is becoming an obstacle in the progress of other sports. Television, com
mercialization and the advertising world have promoted cricket to an extent that it has become a Mount
Everest, which is badly affecting other sports in the country. An equal exposure is not given to all sports in
the country. New comers in cricket sport get name & fame in a short span. But its not happen with other
sports players.
Many budding players in sports like shooting, lifting, hockey etc. cannot continue their passion due to lack
of governmental aid provided to them at International level which is not the case with cricket. Scarcity of
stadiums, playgrounds and poor sports system in schools colleges also pull down interest of people in other
sports.
Huge crowd pack the cricket stadium when there is a India-Pakistan match, to boost the morale of their
country but where does this morale boosting brigade disappear when sportsmen of other than cricketers
need them.
We do have Sania Mirza, Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupati bringing laurels to the country in the field of
tennis; a Vishwanathan Anand in the field of chess. In hockey we have great legends like Balbir singh,
Pargat Singh, Surjit Singh, Ashok Kumar, Ajit Pal Singh, who conquered hockey cup in 1975.They all play
hard to bring pride and glory to our country just as cricketers. It was a time when hockey commentary
delivered by commentator Jasdev Singh holds the breath of nations listeners. That sensational wave sound
has now vanished from radio sets and stadiums. Other games like chess, tennis, and hockey are craving for
true status as cricket game.
Cricket is not our national game, but it is celebrated as a festival. It has been used as a bridge between two
nations. Our countrys politics also get active with these sports. Players of international fame and caliber in
other sports are not given the proper media support and attention as well as proper facilities for further
development. Media hype and money involvement in cricket game are the main culprits for cricket ruling
the roost, to the detriment of other sports in India.
Paradoxically our country is still struggling hard to form a good football team. Day by bay Indian football is
losing the little charm it had gained. Recently JCT club has decided to disband and fold off its team. It was
not very shocking news as even Mahindra United decided to discontinue its football team last year. Same
happens with our national game hockey. There was a time when India did win the Hockey World Cup in
1975 and people showed a keen interest in the sport, but not so anymore. The sport has died a natural death
from lack of leadership and sponsorship.
If this cricket mania continues, India can never do well in the Olympics for years to come. Hence there is a
great need to reform the administration, infrastructure, training and facilities given to players of other sports
than cricket so that they can shine more brightly with their stunning performances. Other sports have the
full right to move up the pecking order.

Umeedon wali dhoop

Politics is one topic, which needs proper understanding and the awareness of the same is equally essential
for the prosperity of the country and its citizens. But due to various reasons people have chosen to stay
ignorant about politics, displayed their disliking forever by being lethargic during the time of voting. They
always have a reason to justify themselves. Its only because of the fact that politics is never considered
important by the common man.
So, new hopes and fresh aspirations need to be spread amongst people everywhere. Also individual attempts
at changing system and the large scale awareness about polity is the need of the hour.

It is also a fact that it wont be the first time when the people of the country will rise against their
suppression. We took giant strides that released the people and the country from the shackles of colonialism,
which had not only squeezed the wealth of India but also fettered our freedom. It was a hard-won
independence that, we thought, gave us the control over our destiny but the promises and commitment that
India made to her people remain unfulfilled.
To identify the challenges of the future, India will have to clear the huge backlog of unredeemed promises.
She has to fight hunger, poverty and unemployment and cater to such needs of the people as education,
health, potable drinking water, housing and rural electrification. The farmer has to be able to use his land
and labor to not merely sustain himself and his family, but to earn the wealth that lies in his land. The
working class especially labors and wage earners should be able to share the prosperity that is now confined
to a very thin layer of the population. India will have to meet the challenges of liberating and empowering
women, as the country has to release the backward and the exploited from the age-old bonds of caste &
conflicts and double standards in religion. The suffering from corruption in bureaucracy and polity should
also witness its ill fate as soon as possible.
Mani Shankar Aiyer (MP - Congress Party) a former Indian diplomat turned politician has once given a
quote People of India elect us, and then we do the work of capitalist and lobbyist. Thus, periods of
optimism and hope has been followed by despair and despondency. So, our politicians need to develop an
intellectual ability to combine their commitment to the cause of national liberation with other progressive
forces in world politics. For example, China; the most populous country in the world. We should closely
follow their policies and developments and draw appropriate lessons.
Our preceding politicians had very different notion when they introduced the concept of mixed economy in
the country. They wanted to put into practice the 'mixed economy' with a view to reduce social and
economic distress. But the general scenario today is far from satisfactory. Without land reforms and
democratic decentralization, there persists a high degree of concentration of wealth and power in the hands
of the few. An unwieldy bureaucracy has flourished, while the vast masses are steeped in poverty.
Distortions in the functioning of the Constitution have led to inequalities in economic advance, a centralized
political structure and regional disparities, which, at times, trigger centrifugal outbursts.
The need to look at things afresh and to reorient ourselves for the years to come has become increasingly
urgent. We need to develop a system of government, which is truly democratic and not just at the face of it.
The faltering development of a full-fledged civil society in India has undermined the working of political
democracy in the country. Creation of casteist and religious vote-banks, use of money, corruption in high
places, muscle-power and the criminal-political nexus are only some of our socio-political ills.
The situation, however, is not irretrievable. What is imperative is to cleanse our socio-political environment
of polluting influences. The political parties, be they national or regional, are required to take decisions on
major policies and issues of their respective parties in order to ensure political stability in the country. All
responsible political parties should come forward to play a leading role to stop this rot. Pay-offs and
corruption scandals should not have any place in this system.
The people's consciousness has to be raised in order to confront this trend. Stern measures will have to be
adopted to deal with the black-money operations, which have now assumed colossal proportions. Even
within the existing socio-political milieu, significant changes can be brought about, if the necessary political
will is there. Our policies must be so directed that India can achieve freedom from want and hunger.
We believe that the present system in India will continue. And if the negative facets within this system are
eliminated, much better results will follow.

Logo Says It All For A Brand

Most often buying decisions are taken only through keeping in view the brands concerned. Brands therefore
speak enough about the attributes of certain products to be selected for buying. The causal relation between

brands and the products sells always matter if there is a perfect logo that describes such brands vividly. It is
therefore very important to take into account a logo design and branding while you plan for a business
strategy as a manager and or an evaluator in case willing to buy quality products. The very essence of a logo
would play an important role in building the image of products and their manufacturers if there were right
approach in that.
The portrayal of a pictorial logo that defines the theme of a product also indicates how important a band is
and what are major and minor aspects that would really make it reputed brand. It is always necessary to
apply creativity in the entire process. Just take an initiative and evaluate a few international brands like the
famous Burberry to observe the difference by your own how the logos have too much to explain in such
particular brand. The distinctive logo selection has made this brand highly attributable item for more than
one and half centuries. There are various such uncountable examples of brands that make us understand that
logo and brands are the prerequisites so they are inseparables.
Evaluate the logo of the Marks & Spencer brand and its impact around the world in todays scenario. It is
true that logos define the brand for clarity and appealingly hence their visual appearance always make a big
difference by explaining how the product would attract the attention of the potential buyers. Almost all types
of logos prepared in the catchy lettering offer the familiar feeling for the brand lovers to keep it in mind
quickly with better remembrance. Feeling of a brand reflects from logo so applying creativity is always an
important factor. The logos can be of different kinds including some text-only options or those in many
varieties of settings. What matters too much is their usage to ensure a brand is noticed easily?
It is an undeniable fact that logos are the most crucial tools that help the brands to get recognized by the
target consumers even while there is least letters to covey an idea or message. Likings of a potential
consumer must therefore be kept under consideration while developing the brands as truly versatile options
to go with that can seek the attention of countless individualsthrough developing an image in mind that
always remains imprint in the minds of people approaching that brand to select the items. That is why image
selection plays very crucial role which is otherwise the logos whose acceptance by the diverse population
guarantees a total recognition and acceptance by millions.
Although traditional logos are still in demand but the brands which target the diverse groups may not go
with this option so often. The choices are diverse hence once may prefer them according to background
scenario which requires thorough understanding of the consumer base. Completing thorough research to
include different aspects are therefore important, so are necessary designing and selection of logos without
which brands might fail to impress the targeted consumer.
Every brand therefore has specific logo needs for which the planning should be done strategically and with
thorough observation whether all sorts of perceptions are incorporated or not. If the logo image is unique
then it is for sure that people will have a keen look on it. The brands using catchy logos will definitely prove
extremely representing henceforth adding value for the brand that could emerge as a professional one is the
insightful need. There are no dearth of brands in the market today but the most important factor is that how
their logos are accepted as iconic ones and if they literally offer any type of charismatic impact or not. That
is why often existing names and big brands keep changing their logos after certain time period if the feel
doesnt prove boosting. They do so to ensure that the grip on the market is sustained for which they might
feel an ardent need to use some effective logo.
Any brand in the market would have broader perspective as a product type while its logos are always a
secondary factor but they definitely remain decisive to keep the brand remain in the limelight. Of course
brand represents everything and every important feel is showcased through the logos of those brands to seek
the attention of a brands lovers who remember the logo and also recognize it as and when they get chance to
see it. If taken into account conceptually then brands are the parts of business strategies for their operation
under the umbrella of the specific manufacturers which takes into account quality control of the product
concerned to maintain the particular standard required.
The logos of such brands are the additional steps to ensure a brand gets recognized by all and sundry. The
logos boost the brands and make them worthwhile products. They are definitely inspiring things as their

recognition makes the sense for fuller and genuine promotion. The brands should have the loyalists so that
its products sustain in market. The important aspect is that how brands are accepted and they get recognized
through attractive logos without that they lose impact. It is important to know that logos advocate the
attributes of brands. That is why they are incomplete without each other.
As conveying strong message is the key attribute of a qualitative brand its portrayal through effective visual
and text presentation is a must. A great brand therefore cant sustain without logos which too works as
strong message conveyer. Most often logos work as excellent communication tools in their absence a brand
may not sustain in marketplace. A great brand will definitely turn splendid only while its logo too appeals
and enchants more.
Execution Is Very Crucial Even For Perfect Plan
A perfect plan would remain useless until and unless it is implemented at the right juncture. All higher level
strategies and the business proposals designed or developed by the expert planners are meant for finally
getting executed for that various types of additional steps have to be taken. A question arises if an
unexecuted plan has any meaning. Is it worthless? An idea is merely an idea until its execution is done. Once
it is carried out into the next level by keeping in consideration the practicality aspects its value redoubles. It
formulates with the start of a new chapter.
It must be noted that even an excellent idea may not be executed for one reason or the other. At times the
reevaluation of a good idea is processed deliberately to sharpen it further. So whenever you plan an idea
dont forget that it can be executed or may be kept on hold for certain time period without even getting
noticed by the executers. Of course the execution of a perfect plan is the next level of progress as a morale
booster that can turn a dream into reality through practical application. In most occasions even a perfect idea
may have the scope for further discussion by constant evaluation or reevaluations.
It is therefore always advisable that there shouldnt be a case of feeling low or disheartened when an idea
fails to executeand doesnt translate into practicality. Keep in mind that your perfect plan can be executed
and if not you still have an ample chance to develop it to bring it into the next level. Most often some
individual circumstances or many such related factors stop the execution of a perfect plan. It is therefore
very important to take all the factors into account while judging the acceptance or denial of a supposedly
perfect business plan that you would have developed as a new strategy.
The idea generator should therefore analyze everything related to your plan and calculate that to strike the
balance especially while there is a case of negation or disapproval even though certain ideas would have
maximum chance for the approval. It indicates that implementation is not the only prerequisite to guarantee
that ideas are perfect every time. Even perfect ideas can remain unexecuted and fail to prove their worth.
There are strategies for execution plans hence it is not necessary that a perfect plan would get approved for
execution the moment it is submitted. The preparation which organizations do for the execution of different
types of business ideas play pivotal role in the whole exercise.
Issues concerned are the feasibility aspects and whether the preparation done would be complete so that it is
moved further with the best facilities for troubleshooting. The questions are endless and each of them haunts
the idea developer, so do the executor to reconfirm that a task taken into consideration ensures better results
and avenue for growth. Each aspect must be taken into account keenly while an idea is under evaluation
process. The scanning and observation aspects could be thousands in numbers.
May be an idea considered perfect for once fails to offer the desired input the moment it is executed. Such
factors are tricky but they have a say when it comes to evaluating ideas to give them practical shape. It is
therefore very important to do a thorough study of the major and minor factors to turn some perfect idea into
a completely perfect one whose chances for acceptance are high and gets executed. The planners often forget
such elements while developing ideas. They think that theirs are the only effective ideas. It is a must to know
that there can be big variance in the understanding level. Often such differences occur due to research levels
and gaps in understanding. Each factor counts for perfection.

Remember that there is always a choice between the right and right. You shouldnt assume ever that a
perfect plan is truly perfect when there is still good scope to look at the secondary and tertiary options that
are beforehand. Total interpretation and timely evaluation of various types of factors concerned will work
well to strengthen the judgments so that your perfect gets approval and the execution of an idea is made
possible.
The related factors are more important to assess the feasibility for any operation when ideas are to be
translated into reality and actual assessment is to be done. Once you do so there is definitely maximum
possibility to get the desired output. Executions are definitely the resultant outcome of the numerous types
of calculations done to ensure that maximum benefits and least shortcomings are there. Even a perfect plan
is implemented only when the executors are completely satisfied that such proposed step would pave the
way for a new beginning that has maximum benefit level.
Objective assessment of the integrity of an idea which you may consider perfect plays major role for the
execution. Judgments are done on the basis of several assessments. All observers must approve the plan after
evaluating through checking various factors concerned. Various types of statistical studies continue while
assessing the uniqueness of an idea which you might consider perfect but it fails to prove claim. May be an
idea can remain perfect and adjudged suitable but some other factor come in the midst and declare it unfit or
not feasible. There is a possibility that the idea you consider perfect fails to impress the assessment teams.
That is why scope for regular evaluation is always there even if idea is genuine.
Ideas and their implementation or execution have causal relation with the estimated costs involved for the
implementation. Similarly the time frame, situations, external pressures and many other feasibility factors
play key role in the execution of such planseven if they are perfect in all respects. Execution plans are
decided to ensure that the implementation of the perfect one would move ahead without any loophole.
Inflation Is Result Of Government's Apathy
Rising inflation is the big cause of concern for the country and its economic growth. The sufferers are
mainly the taxpaying individuals while the government merely offers regular assurances like attempts are
being made to bring the situation under control. An analytical observation makes us understand that such
economic slowdown and pathetic condition is caused due to the governments apathy. The Indian
government follows the easy way of borrowing rather than managing the own resources which could have
helped the country to move ahead with constant progress. The bad economic planning therefore causes
inflation.
The highly disturbing element which is a big cause of concern for the country is the unexpected fiscal
slippage due to constant rise in inflation. It therefore has direct causal relation with the casual approach and
apathy from the governments side which could take firm step to control inflation with any timely initiative.
This situation is highly frustrating for the country and hinders its progress. The successive governments
though have hardly taken any concrete step to manage the fiscal indiscipline. Its role in increasing inflation
cant be ruled out.
Although the government often cites various reasons for such worse financial condition that inflation keeps
increasing because of the lower-than-expected cash surplus at the very start of the financial year or that
National Small Savings Fund (NSSF) witnessed revenue shortfall. A few arguments might prove true but
some are baseless because most often the fiscal deficit calculations themselves had proved wrong hence
there cant be a guarantee whether the analysis would be of any worth or not.
The crucial factors of mismanagement and vested political interests besides the preferences of the party
welfare of ruling politicians rather than keeping the national interests under consideration are main
prerequisites. They cause budget deficits for that no appropriate initiatives are taken to ensure financial
health of the nation is prioritized upon the nonsense decisions.

The fact is undeniable that inflation has also caused due to the improper cash management and several such
decisions that have been taken without keeping in view the interests of general masses. Arguments are often
given by the respective governments but most of them prove wrong when economic analysts judge them.
Static interest rates of different types of savings schemes which government offers besides the increased
funds gathering through taxes or other sources though should rather proliferate for the stable inflation.
Constant increase in the inflation is only due to inexperienced financial planning and wrong decisions taken
to support particular section of the society. The vested interests are more problematic then the economic
reasons that often create brouhaha which the countrymen see in the form of an increased inflation not to be
controlled so easily.
Often the borrowing programmes of the respective governments create the surprising scenes in the markets.
When the market expectation varies too much then fluctuation become a common scenario. Its affect on the
benchmark 10-year Government Securities has also been felt. It is one major reason that inflation rate
jumped from 7.93 per cent to 8.55 per cent in the recent years. Such situations are definitely pathetic one for
that strong and forceful measure had to be applied.
The factors like Prime Lending Rates (PLRs) by the Indian banks concerned and the Reserve Bank of India
announcing interest rates from 3.50 per cent to 4 per cent recently was some of the newer steps for effective
Monetary Policy to be applied in the coming fiscal years. Such steps are definitely genuine and make it
possible for the country to sustain its economy from smaller levels. Unfortunately though some gaps
widened due to ineffective economic planning and failure of the government to boost the morale hence the
results are not so much appealing yet. Proper economic solution would turn Indian economy more
sustainable but it still faces worst situation because of ineffective planning.
The headline inflation has been leaving panicking impact on the country but the government has literally
failed to apply an effective measure. Acceleration continues that is uncontrollable due to lack of proper
measure. Previous records for the weekly food inflations reaching up to 9.41 per cent and the constant
increase in the fuel prices witnessed recently at 14.69 per cent inflation are all typical situations that had
showed how the government failed to control worst financial situation. Ironically the government instead
declared such situation unmanageable instead of applying timely initiatives.
A close analysis of the whole situation makes you understand each and everything with more clarity. You
come to know of government's apathy towards the masses that brings such inflation. Steps could have been
taken to make the system more transparent and focusing at the small savings schemes. The step could also
be started through attractive financial decisions by the government authorities. Keeping in consideration
international pressures, local needs and initiatives that could help it control inflation, the government could
stop worse situation.
Slowdown of the main consumer economies of India especially Europe and the USA have resultant impact
on countrys escalated inflation. It too is a sort of international cause for that local measure could have been
searched to avoid facing such difficult phases especially many external pressures if the preparation could be
from the local level to counter numerous such worst situations.
It is true that economic doldrums which India has been facing today is very much due to the immature
decisions taken by its successive government which often failed to deal with internal and external pressures
to ensure inflation is brought under control. Perhaps it is the main reason that peoples trust and confidence
on governments have literally slowed down with such apathies they face.
The present example can be Indian economy failing to grow at its budgeted GDP growth estimate of 9% for
current fiscal for that its preparations hardly had any objective mechanism. Even to this day the food
inflation continues to be nearby 9% mark that is not a good sign for the economic health of the country.
"FDI in multi brand retail sector of India and its Effects

The major chunk of Indian retail market is unorganised retail which is about 98%. Although few big local
players have tried to enter this segment in order to expand their business and one such player is Reliance.
But still to make the retail sector more defined and organised, government has now planned to allow FDIs
from various big players in this segment. One of the major global players is Walmart.
A well known international management consultant A.T. Kearney once said India is the second most
attractive retail designation globally, among thirty emergent markets. The landscape and infrastructure of
Indian retail has changed dramatically as the there has been a great rise in the number of middle class. Both
the upper and lower income groups in India prefer to buy branded goods from standard showrooms.
The reality is that both the organised retailers and kiriana stores exist together, in fact the organised retailers
compete with the other organised retailers. Most of the organised retailers have become better than before
due to the competition and their expenses have gone up especially the amount spend on advertising.
The entire nation as well as the political parties were not expecting the Indian government to permit 51%
FDI by foreign multi brand retailers. India however, took safer and slower steps towards FDI. As per few of
the facts, the organised retail sector has grown from 10% to 40% in Brazil and 20% in china, while India is
at only 2% in the past decade. This is also the prime reason why the two fastest developing and growing
economies in the world in last decade have been Brazil and China.
When the government of India allowed FDI in retail the entire country was stunned. Opposition parties and
few chief ministers have stood firm against this decision because they feel that if this is implemented then
the small retailers will lose their market especially the unorganised retail sector which comprise of the local
kirana stores. 90% of the small retailers do not even pay tax to the government of India. These stores work
on a small margin of 4-7 % and these kirana stores have been serving the Indian consumer since decades.
Some of these stores even provide credit to their regular customers, and now the trend of home delivery has
taken apace so these stores even provide home delivery services as well. These small retail stores serve as a
great medium of promotion for FMCG companies as they can reach the ultimate consumer through such
retailers. Since the year 2000 when the organised retail entered India, it has come a long way. It involved lot
of investment and creativity but it has managed to reach newer heights.
If we talk about the pros and cons of FDI in retail business sector in India then the first and the foremost
advantage is that it serves as an aid to make investments which would yield long-term profits. Once the FDI
is allowed then the home country would obtain financial assistance from much richer countries like USA.
The positives of allowing 51% FDI in multi brand retail has lot of advantages but because the opposition
parties have halted the parliament and they have forced the Government of India to hold this till the time
they manage to get the consensus of the various chief ministers of the states and the opposition party.
FDI apart from its capital benefits also helps in reducing unemployment as it increases job opportunities for
the people. When companies from other countries will start operating in India then it would lead to an
exchange of skill sets and much better production levels. Not only tha,t there is an exchange of technologies
as well whenever any two countries come together to work, for eg : if wal-mart comes to India in
collaboration with Bharti, then they will use the strong distribution network of Bharti in India which will
help them in achieving the economies of scale. Along with that wal-mart will also bring its retail expertise to
India so that they can attract consumers.
FDI will also benefit the farmers in India as the multi brand retailers who will operate here will be
purchasing the goods directly from the farmers which means that the demand will rise and farmers will be
able to sell their products at better and fairer price. Looking at the present scenario in India its the farmers
who are suffering the most as they are being exploited by the middlemen who pay them very less price for
their products. The foreign retailers will be purchasing directly from the farmers as they will eliminate the
middlemen which will give them more margins to play with.

The ultimate consumer will also be benefitted as they will have more options to choose from, they will be
able to buy better quality and variety of products at much more reasonable price. This is the reason why
many politicians believe that the local kirana stores will lose their business but reality is different.
The argument which has been put across by the opposition parties that the kirana stores will run out of
business once the FDI is permitted is a big myth. Together they have to feed one billion people, dress and
house them apart from that there is a huge potential at the bottom of pyramid.
The biggest benefit which the Indian economy will gain if this FDI is completed is that of cash infusion. The
FDI norms suggest that 50% of the 100 million capitals will go back to the back end infrastructure which
means a FDI of 2.5 billion. Not only this, it would also provide lot of employment, once the foreign stores
are operational here in India then the workforce will also be hired from here.
"It is Not Easy To Say NO
Argumentative approaches always impact with certain words which emphasize much in different types of
conversations. NO is definitely a powerful word that is said and expressed with stresses when it has to
explain meaning between the lines. Though this word is said very quickly and easily as well but impact is
extremely powerful. That is why saying NO is definitely not so easy thing.
The general conversations or communications you do with the strong argumentative approach
often has this symbolic negationNO. It may not be easy to deliver this word though when
there is a matter for a courtesy thing and you want to strike the balance but cant move
ahead without saying this word. This would be a catch22situation for you but there is no other
option except moving ahead by considering the nature of communication. So, you convey this
word and fulfill the purpose.

At times saying no remains a major prerequisite to make a communication more powerful and
to ensure that everything goes as planned and the message is conveyed more powerfully. It is
especially while you do it to helping your kids or youngsters develop certain skills and you
want them to learn and adopt such things without making any delay. Such initiatives are
especially for those situations while you are keen to keep them disciplined. The children would
ask for anything and everything they see or come across to but you need to judge what is
appropriate and what to avoid by keeping in consideration their needs. Negating on certain
things especially when they enforce for that makes you deliver the NO thing with strict and
strong tone.

If you dont take any such step now then it would become a very difficult task for you to
control several habits of theirs on the later stages. Are impulsive reactions based on the two
major arguments called YES and NO? If you observe them minutely then come on the
conclusion that out of the argumentative gestures discussed above, the later one is definitely
much powerful. It might cause irritating feel and at the same juncture conveying a negation
requires ample courage. That is why saying NO us something you deliver a strong argument
by stopping one in the midst of communication and or overpowering other due to your strict
and impactful argument.

NO is not only a mere denial argument but also an overshadowing the other party in an
ongoing tte--tte or communication which would bring some effective outcome from your
side and from that which receives it from you in a debate. This negative little word has much

potential. That is why it always helps you learn the countless positives in life for that you must
have power to convey NO with right approach.

Do remember that while you deliver the NO word your gesture must be in such manner that it
can strike the balance perfectly and your initiative yields positivityby saying something in
negation. It is true that the communication might go at a path of waning due to too much
irritating syndromes that begin while there are too many NOs in discussions. Ironically, the
essence of such discussions loses value if you have too much yeses as welland literally
cripple self-discipline in conversations. It often kills the creativity and argumentative
approach. The negation shouldnt augur frustration hence it is important to balance the
discussion and speak out the Yeses and Nos honestly and through applying proper
determination.

It is very important to develop the art of saying NO with right gesture. The demands may not
always be genuine hence you should have the power to deliver the NO message for the sake
of keeping the right approach move ahead. It is also good to manage the situation through
using some of the best creative alternatives while you negate. Saying NO therefore requires
preparedness from within so that the exact intension delivers and negation doesnt bring any
negative sense. At times negating sportingly or in the humorous manner too can convey
serious naught message. It all depends on gesture and body language to empower a NO into
a truly worthy thingstrong communication.

Dont lose punch of NO word by conveying it repeatedly. Be firm while you deliver it for the
sake of conveying strong messagestrictnesswhile it is solely meant to protect. Often it
conveys something else on specific occasions so the message go more powerful hence
overpower rest messages. Suppose you are willing to ignore something and disagree then
impact of NO definitely becomes unique and the message needs to be conveyed in a
perspective best adjusting the situation.

NO is also great argumentative approach to teach and make others understand why one
shouldnt move ahead in certain things that brings damaging act. In most cases saying NO
becomes disgusted expression as other parties would have mixed reactions and you might be
misunderstood. It is observed that this simple but powerful word has enough causal relation
with human behavior so you may lose its attraction the moment your word delivery is on the
wrong time or through a gesture doesnt construe the message you had desired to convey
through it.

The arguments may be that saying NO is but easy hence there is hardly any jargon in its
delivery. But the fact is undeniable that it requires thoughtfulness and the ability to
understand the situation keenly while conveying such hitting arguments because it still
remains an irritatingly oppressive thing though such negation even though purpose is based
on optimism and farsightedness.

So, whenever you deliver a message by saying NO you actually come out of a hallucinating
situation for some and fail to convince lots. It therefore requires the perfect mastery to
express your negation rightly by giving the positive feel even while saying NO. It is what
remains important to make it considerate mode of communication for that the art of
delivering a message for the perfect approach is conveyed.
The White Revolution

After the huge success of world renowned Green Revolution in India that resulted in tremendous increase in
production of rice and wheat, the India government took up Operation Flood Programme with a motive of
increase in milk production and make India one of the largest producers of milk in the world. Indeed, this
programme was a huge success and the entire world knows it as The White Revolution.

Operation Flood was a rural development programme initiated by India's National Dairy
Development Board (NDDB). This revolution started in the year 1970 following the Indian
Green Revolution and was aimed to create a nationwide milk grid.

It resulted in making India the largest producer of milk and milk products, and hence is called
as the White Revolution of India. It also helped in reducing the malpractices by milk traders
and mercenary merchants and ultimately helping in eradicating poverty.

Operation Flood helped the dairy farmers, in directing their own development, by empowering
them with the controls of the resources that they create. A 'National Milk Grid' was formed
that connected milk producers throughout the country along with the consumers of more than
700 towns and cities. This helped in reducing seasonal and regional price variations ensuring
consume satisfaction and at the same time ensuring that the producers get a major share of
the price that consumers pay.

The basic foundation of Operation Flood was laid by the village milk producers cooperatives
that procured milk and provided services, making optimum use of modern management and
technology. Operation Flood had the following objectives :

Increase production of milk ( creating "a flood of milk")

Augment rural incomes
Offer fair prices for consumers

"Anand Milk Union Limited", popularly known as Amul- a Gujarat-based co-operation was the
engine that drove the success of the programme. At the time when the programme was
implemented Verghese Kurien was the chairman of NDDB. He pushed forward the cooperatives with his sheer professional management skills, and is considered the architect of
India's 'White Revolution'.

There were several other big Co-operatives that empowered that transformed Operation Flood
into White Revolution.
Operation Flood was implemented in three phases.

Phase I was spread over a span of 10 yrs, starting from 1970 to 1980. It was financed by the
sale of skimmed milk powder and butter oil which were donated by the European Union
through the World Food Programme.

NDDB planned the programme- Operation Flood and linked 18 premier Indian milksheds
with consumers in India's major metropolitan cities, thus establishing mother dairies in 4
metros.

In the initial stage of Phase I in 1970 certain well defined aims were kept in view for the
successful implementation of the programme. Improvement of milk marketing in the
organized dairy sector in the metropolitan cities- Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Delhi was one
such step to accomplish the goals.

Starting from 1981, the Phase II of Operation Flood lasted till 1985. It increased the number of
milksheds from 18 to 136. It was attributed to the fact that milk outlets were expanded to 290
urban markets. By the end of second phase, a self-sustaining system was set up that included
43,000 village cooperatives along with 4,250,000 milk producers. Domestic milk powder
production also increased from 22,000 tons in the year 1980 to 140,000 tons by 1989. All of
the increase in production was solely due to the dairies set up under Operation Flood.
Ultimately, direct marketing of milk by these cooperatives increased by several million liters a
day.

Phase III of Operation Flood from 1985 to1996 gave a finishing touch to the programme by
enabling dairy cooperatives to expand. This phase saw the strengthening of infrastructure
required to market the increasing volumes of milk.

Operation Flood's final phase strengthened India's dairy cooperative movement, by adding
30,000 new dairy cooperatives to the already existing 42,000 societies. Number of milksheds
peaked to 173 and also the number of women members and Women's Dairy Cooperative
Societies increased significantly.

Towards the end of Operation Flood Programme 73,930 dairy cooperatives had set up linking
more than 3.5 crore dairy farmer members. Due to the innovative strategies and sheer
management skills adopted by these dairy cooperatives under the leadership of Dr. Kurien,
the milk production peaked to an estimated level of 710 lakh tones.

At present there are several hundred Co-operatives in India that are working very efficiently.
Many such co-operatives were also set up by Verka Milk Plant, situated at Ludhiana in Punjab
state of India. Now its subsidiary has also set up in Canada. Verka has played a significant role
in White Revolution. In 1972 Verka started with 1 Lac. Liter milk per day and today it provides
4 Lac. Liter milk per day. It set up co-operatives on the Anand Pattern and today is one of
the biggest chains of Co-operatives.

Another such brand is Parag of Pradeshik Cooperative Dairy Federation Limited (UP). It has a
total of 30 cooperative unions and 16 Dairy plants. It produces 1,680 thousand liters of milk
per day. Serving the country, it produces a wide variety of milk products such as Cheese,
Ghee, White Butter, Table Butter, Skim Milk Powder, and Milk Cake.

Saras is another such brand name that comes to the mind while talking about White
Revolution. It is a brand of Rajasthan Cooperative Dairy Federation Limited. It has 16
cooperative unions and 15 Dairy Plants. It is serving the nation while producing 1,425
thousand litres of milk every day. It produces a wide variety of milk products ranging from
Pure Ghee to Sweets and even Ice Creams.

Some other Co-operatives and their Brand names are :

Andhra Pradesh Dairy Development Cooperative Federation Ltd. - Vijaya

Bihar State Cooperative Milk Producers Federation Ltd. Sudha
Haryana Dairy Development Cooperative Federation Ltd. Vita
Himachal Pradesh State Cooperative Milk Producers Federation Ltd. Him
Karnataka Cooperative Milk Producers Federation Ltd. Nandini
Keral State Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. Milma
Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Dairy Federation Ltd. Sneha & Sanchi
Orissa State Cooperative Milk Producers Federation Ltd. Omfed
Tamilnadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation Ltd. Aavin
West Bengal Cooperative Milk Production Federation Ltd. Bens, Bhagirathi, Himul, Midmilk,
Mother Dairy, Metro Dairy & Bens Torsha
Maharashtra Rajya Sahakari Dudh Mahasangh Maryadit Vikas, Mahanand, Gokul, Dhawal,
Dudh Pandri, Warana, Krishna, Katraj, Rajhans, Koyna & Shivamrut

Despite the huge success of White Revolution there are some critics on the other node who
argue that the emphasis on foreign cow breeds has led to the decimation of Indian breeds.
Albeit foreign breeds give higher yields, but they also require more feed and are not suited to
Indian conditions.

Critics further argue that operation flood came at the expense of development, research, and
extension work in other areas of Indian agriculture. They also say that although the White
Revolution has benefited the rural India considerably, yet it can not be sustained beyond a
threshold limit due of the lack of purchasing power of the poor Indians, and the export front of
India is bleak.

Indeed, the White Revolution has played an important role in improving the living standards of
the rural people in India. There is no doubt that the co-operatives, which were set up to
accomplish the goals of Operation Flood programme, had also played a major role in the
progress of the rural economy. There is no exaggeration in saying that White Revolution is the
cause of prosperity in many of the Indian villages.

Water Resources
Water Resources are sources of water and water resource management is a system meant for conservation
and protection of the water. Use of water includes agricultural, industrial, household, recreational and
environmental activities. Almost all of these human uses require fresh water. Magic of water is that nobody
can stay alive without water. Unsavory fact is that 97% of water on the earth is salt water, and only 3% is
fresh water of which slightly over 2/3 is in hard shape i.e glaciers and polar ice caps.
Water is necessary for all dimensions of life. Over the past few decades, with the great increase in
population all over the world, use of water has increased which leads to water scarcity in many places.
Approximately eighty countries, with forty percent of the worlds population, are already facing water
shortages. Now you can imagine what would the picture of future when by year 2020, worlds population
will be double.
Water is a unique substance. Water Resources management is a very important issue with regard to the
conservation and the protection of water. Water resource management is meant to manage the available
water resources wisely and to deliver the necessary amount for sustainable development. Additional use of
water is not only the reason behind its crisis but poor use and lack of good management of water resource
leads to unavailability of water at many places.
In India condition of water resource management is much worst. Our country is blessed with many big
rivers like Ganga, Yamuna, Brahmaputra, Jhelum, Chinab, Satluj etc. One of our state is named after 5 rivers
Punjab which means Land of five rivers. India is known as a country of agriculture. On reality grounds
picture is different. Day by day countrys water resources are getting shrink with the growth of
infrastructure.
The quality of water in rivers and underground has deteriorated, due to pollution by waste and contaminants
from cities, and industries etc. In every locality, in every house we can easily find an electronic motor
suctioning water from municipal pipes. Demand of RO water purify system is on top because water supply
from municipal pipe lines are not clean and pure. It is a threat to our health if we drink supplied water
directly.
We cannot deny the fact that poor water resource management system in India weakens the nations strength
to fight against drought. The policies of most state governments for dealing with drought is to wait till it
rains. Luckily, geographical shapes of India fetch good rain every year but we are unable to store rain

water. Last year chief minister of Bihar Mr. Nitish Kumar, declared entire Bihar state as drought affected.
Such situation can happen to any state, if we keep on ignoring water resources and its maintenance.
Government has taken many steps to rescue water resources in the country. Many policies were outlined to
maintain water resources like National water policy has been formed in 1987, National Conservation
strategy and policy statement on environment and development, 1992 and policy statement for abatement of
pollution, 1992.
These strategies and policies are mechanisms for water pollution control. There are so many sections and
acts are designed for general public to fight against polluted water one of important section is 277 of the
IPC. Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 is meant to curb the various kinds of water
pollution. Many more suggestive measures should be implementing. Government should take up
rehabilitation work through its own resources; more use of local resources, rain water harvesting, rivercanals connectivity, De- siltation of river beds , reducing the sediment loads.
There should be more strict and suitable laws to control over exploitation of ground water and for proper
regulation of water resources. Government should come forward more actively to implement water resource
management system in India so that people do not feel the pang of hunger or suffer from lack of potable
water or polluted water.
Water has become a highly precious resource. There are some places in the world where a barrel of water
costs more than a barrel of oil. Grave fact is that in whole world, one billion people lack safe water and three
billions are lacking sanitation, eighty percent of infectious diseases are waterborne, killing millions of
children each year and our country is one of them. Its a high time for all of us to realize our responsibility
towards making an effort to save water and not to destroy our ecosystem.
Literature

It would be strange for many of us to know what literature is or what importance does it hold and whether it
should be taken as a subject of study. The study of literature is considered out of bound for many of us as
compared to foreign universities where it is being widely studied and pursued as a career.
The literature that you studied in high school and college wasn't written solely for the purpose of
entertainment. Literature conveys the human experience, all those abstract ideas that we know intuitively,
but don't understand unless we explore them in stories and discuss them with others.
Language forms the soul of the literature and to understand its aura one should have the ability to play with
the words to put forth his emotion. The works of William Shakespeare, Jane Austen and Margaret Mitchell
speak volumes about their romance with literature. Infact, the Indian epics- Ramayana and Mahabharata are
the rich literary pieces which are being passed as a legacy from generation to generation.
The relatively recent Harry Potter series made record breaking sales across the globe and carved a niche for
author J.K. Rowling. And when we talk about children's authors it would be incomplete without the mention
of all-time popular authors like Enid Blyton, Roald Dahl and Mark Twain.
The most astonishing facet of literature is that it encompasses history but on the other hand history cant
encompass within itself the elements of literature. Literature sometimes works as a historical chronicle. For
example, Shakespeare wrote many historical plays depicting the "real" political and social state of Britain at
different periods of time like HenryIV", "HenryV", "Henry VI" and many more. Hence, literature can easily

show you a piece of your land's history and make it easy for you to learn incidents by heart, instead of
mugging them from some dull and monotonous history books.
Broadly speaking, "literature" is used to describe anything from creative writing to more technical or
scientific works, but the term is most commonly used to refer to works of the creative imagination, including
works of poetry, drama, fiction, and non-fiction.
Literature is known by many names such as classics, learning, erudition, belles-lettres, lit, literary works,
written work, writings and books. Many of us confuse fiction and classics with literature when it is the other
way round. Fiction is a work of the imagination or invention, which contrasts with non-fiction (which is
usually thought to be based on facts). Written works like novels, short stories, plays, and poems are fictional.
A work of fiction is a work of literature, but the term "literature" encompasses far more than just fiction.
A classic usually expresses some artistic quality- an expression of life, truth, and beauty.A classic stands the
test of time. The work is usually considered to be a representation of the period in which it was written; and
the work merits lasting recognition.
Many people are self-proclaimed lovers of literary works. Literature represents a language or a people:
culture and tradition. We learn about books and literature; we enjoy the comedies and the tragedies of
poems, stories, and plays; and we may even grow and evolve through our literary journey with books.
It is a prevalent opinion that literature is like all arts a mere play of imagination, pleasing enough like a new
novel without any serious or practical importance. We may discover meaning in literature by looking at what
the author says and how he says it. Literature is important to us because it speaks to us, it is universal, and it
affects us. Even when it is tragic, literature is beautiful.
Bringing literature into your mind elevates your thinking process. Literature expands your learning and
helps you in writing and understanding different phrases. Literary works are portrayals of the thinking
patterns and social norms prevalent in the society. They are a depiction of the different facets of common
man's life.
Classical literary works serve as a food for thought and a tonic for imagination and creativity. Exposing an
individual to good literary works, is equivalent to providing him with the finest of educational opportunities.
On the other hand, the lack of exposure to classic literary works is equal to depriving an individual from an
opportunity to grow as an individual.

Prose, poetry, drama, essays, fiction, literary works based on philosophy, art, history, religion, and culture
and also scientific and legal writings are grouped under the category of literature. Creative non-fiction and
literary journalism also fall under literature. Certain extremely technical writings such as those on logistics

and mathematics are also believed to be a part of literature.

Though languages form the building blocks of literature the study of literature cannot be restricted to only
studying languages. A degree in language and literature is perhaps unable to provide one, with everything
that literature can offer. Literature is the foundation of life as it provides the ability to connect human
relationships and demarcate what is right and what is wrong. Therefore, words are alive more than ever
before.
" Importance of Crops in India
Today, India ranks second worldwide in farm output. India is an agrarian country and more than60% of
population depends on agriculture for their livelihood. While residing in urban areas may be we would not
realize much importance of agriculture but this fact is not new that agriculture is the main source of income
for major part of our countrys population. India's population is growing faster than its ability to produce rice
and wheat. The required level of investment for the development of marketing, storage and cold storage
infrastructure is estimated to be huge. The country produces innumerable crops ranging from medicinal to
cereal crops. These commodities are used for various purposes from human consumption, in industries, for
animal feed etc.
Most of us do not know major categories of crops. We are unaware of its valuable contribution to our
economy. Ignoring the negative approach of the citizens living in urban areas, the cropping activities are
continue to go on all the year-round in India, provided water is available for crops.
Crops in India are broadly divided into three major categories, viz.

Kharif crops: The crops that are sown in the rainy season are called kharif crops. Its season starts
from July and ends in October, e.g. Maize, Sugarcane, Cotton, Jawar, Bajra soyabean, turmeric,
paddy, moong, ground nuts , red chillies.

Rabi crops:The crops that are sown in the winter season are called rabi crops. Its season is during
October to March, e.g Wheat, oil seed, pulses, rubber beans.

Zaid crops: Crops grown between March and June are known as Zaid e.g. muskmelon, watermelon
and vegetables like guard, pumpkin etc.

At some places rice is produced more in quantity and at some other places more wheat is produced. In some
regions maize, jute and in other regions sugar-cane is produced. India produces different types of crops due
to difference in soil and climate.
In a short note let us know our main crops:
Food Crops

Rice: Rice is the main grain crop of India. India ranks second in the world in production of rice.
About 34% of the total cultivated area of the nation is under rice cultivation. Rice is cultivated in
areas having annual average rainfall of 125 cm. Major rice cultivating areas are north east India,
eastern and western coastal regions. West Bengal, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh are the major rice
producing states.

Wheat: Wheat is the second major crop in India. Wheat is cultivated in areas with mean annual
rainfall of 75 cm and fertile soil. Wheat has got an important role in 'Green Revolution'. The highest
quantity of wheat in the country is in Uttar Pradesh. 35 % of wheat is produced only in Uttar
Pradesh. This is produced by Punjab and Haryana where production of wheat is on a large scale.

Maize: Maize is an important khaki crop of rainy season. Maize is cultivated in different areas and in
different climates but it is suitable where temperature is 35 Celsius and rainfall is 75 centimeters. It
is cultivated in hilly areas-of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Maize is cultivated
throughout our country but it is cultivated more in Punjab, U.P., Bihar, M.P. and Rajasthan.

Pluses: Pulses are grown in dry climate region in India. These crops provide nitrogen to the soil.
Pulses are a source of proteins in the diet. Madhya Pradesh is the leading pulses producing state in
India. It is also produce in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Jowar: This crop is grown where the climate is hot and dry. It is cultivated in Maharashtra,
Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.

In agriculture there are few crops which are grown for profit are called as Cash Crops or Commercial
crops. Cash crop is a backbone of agriculture economy of India. It sets a strong base for Indian economy
where countrys trade and commerce flourish domestically and internationally. Cash crops are generally
grown for money. In earlier days, cash crops were grown in a very small scale but today it forms a major
contribution to our nations economy. Now it has grown at large scale for commercial purpose.
Cash Crops

Sugarcane: Sugarcane is an important cash crop of India. Molasses, sugar and khandasari etc. are
produced from the juice of sugarcane. Sugarcane cultivation needs temperature of 15 to 40 and
rainfall of 100 to 150 centimeters and fertile loamy soil or hard soil. Sugarcane is cultivated from
Kanyakumuri (southern part) to Punjab (north-west) but it is more cultivated in Uttar Pradesh.

Coffee: There is a great demand of coffee in the world market. For reason, India exports coffee.
Coffee cultivation needs hot and wet climate and fertile sloppy land. It is mainly produced in south
Indian states of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Coffee is produced on a large scale on the
mountain ranges of Nilgiri.

Tea: India is first in the cultivation of tea in the world. Tea cultivation needs hot climate, excess
rainfall and sloppy soil. Tea is found more in Assam, Karnataka, Kerala and Himachal Pradesh,
Dehradun, Ranchi of Bihar and Tripura.

Rubber: Rubber is needed by different industries and transport industry in this modern age. It is
cultivated in hot and wet climate garden in natural way. It is cultivated in the State of Kerala in India.
Except Kerala, Andaman Nicobar Islands, Kurgan of Karnataka State and Chicmagalur district etc.

Oilseeds: Groundnut, mustard, rapeseed, linseed and caster help us to get our edible oil. Oil is also
extracted from coconut. India occupies the first position in the world in the production of groundnut.
Groundnut cultivation needs temperature varying from 20 to 30 degree Celsius and needs 60 to 80
centimeters of rainfall. Groundnut cultivation needs sandy and light soil. Groundnuts are produced
more in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

Fibre crops:

Cotton: Cultivation of cotton needs 20 to 25 Celsius temperature and 50 to 75 centimeters of

rainfall. Cotton plant needs wet climate at the time of growing and dry climate at the time of
collecting seeds. it is known as Kharif crop. Cotton cultivation takes place in Gujarat, Maharashtra,
Punjab and Haryana of our country. Except these States, cotton cultivation also takes place in
Karnataka, Tamilnadu, M.P, Rajasthan, A.P. and U.P.

Jute: India is a major producer of jute in the world. It is another type of fiber crop. Bags, ropes and a
lot of other things are made out of jute. Jute cultivation needs hot and wet climate and fertile loamy

land. Temperature of 24 to 35 Celsius and 90 to 150 centimeters of rainfall is suitable for jute
cultivation. In our country, jute is cultivated in Orissa, West Bengal, eastern U.P., Bihar, Assam and
Tripura.
It does not matter where we are living, in urban or in rural areas, what really matters is the knowledge about
our crops and agriculture, which is very essential to know the significance of crops in our life. According to
a survey conducted by United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, there is sufficient food produced
in the world every year to feed every human being on the planet. But still nearly 800 million people literally
go hungry every day, with more than a third of the earth's population -- 2 billion men and women -malnourished one way or another.
In India, slow agricultural growth is a major concern for policymakers as two-thirds of Indias people
depend on rural employment for a living. Current agricultural practices are neither economically nor
environmentally sustainable. Productions of many agricultural commodities are low in India. Poorly
maintained irrigation systems or we can say fully depend on monsoon rain is the main factor responsible for
its slow growth. Crops which are grown in different parts of India, contributes to overall growth of the
countrys economy. You would be very surprised to know that agriculture sector contributes around 17% to
gross domestic product (GDP) despite of fact that our country is very rich in agriculture and more shocking
truth is that this percentage figures out only when country blessed with good showers of monsoon.
That is why since prehistoric times, Indian economy was often called as monsoon economy. In India
irrigation systems are very poor. Agriculture is fully depended on monsoon rain which is the major factor
responsible for its slow growth and sometime consequent to drought situations in some states. Work of
Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) is also not much appreciable as maximum time it failed to provide
right information at right time. Its meteorological observations about weather forecasts and detecting
earthquakes are not much helpful to those who are associated to agriculture. IMD needs to equip with
latest technology and equipments so that its work should prove as great help to agriculture.
The livelihood of a vast population in India depends on agriculture, forestry, wetlands and fisheries and land
use in these areas is strongly influenced by water-based ecosystems that depend on monsoon rains. Climate
change indicates that action is essential in order to prevent long term damage to India's water cycle which is
very necessary for agriculture of our country. It reflects the critical role of the monsoon in crop farming that
ultimately affects the Indian economy growth.
To lift it up, there is vital need to take more initiatives and to upgrade our plans and policies. Latest
agriculture technologies and equipment should be adopted for better output. More educated and right talent
should enter to agriculture sector.
A wealthy landowner cannot cultivate and improve his farm without spreading comfort and well-being
around him. Rich and abundant crops, a numerous population and a prosperous countryside are the rewards
for his efforts.
Role of Opposition
India which was under the British rule for more than 200 years became independent in 1947. The people of
India unanimously called for a democratic form of government which is was not readymade but has grown
by trial and error.
If we look at the history countries which were under the monarchial rule could not tolerate opposition and
rooted it out whenever it arose. Undue repression of the opposition often results in bloodshed and even
change of government through violent means. The French Revolution and the Russian revolution (1917)
stands as an example to the above said. Thus, the role of opposition is very much needed to ensure the
successful running of the government in power.

The use of the term opposition to denote forces within political institutions that acts a barrier to the ruling
party is comparatively recent. Although the term opposition was used as far back as the 18th century to refer
to a party or a caucus within an assembly, the suggestion of an established opposition is relatively new.
Even in states with high levels of repression it is rare to find no trace of opposition. In single-party systems,
the opposition may exist as an underground movement. Interestingly, the opposition in the modern UK
parliament, which is also the oldest democracy, consists not merely of opposition parties or factions, but
principally of a shadow formation or shadow chancellor.
The party that is out of the government at a given point of time is called the opposition party. The number of
the opposition party/parties may be one or more depending on whether there is a dual- party or multiparty
system.
In literal terms an opposition party has its leader, its base, organization and committees, and usually
responds to every move of the government with counter proposals representing in theory what it would do if
it were in the office. In democratic systems, the opposition is officially permitted and recognized. Even the
leader of opposition is given an honourable place.
In India, the opposition leader has been given certain rights and privileges at par with the cabinet minister if
he commands the support of the required number of the Parliament members. With the rise of regional
parties the national parties- BJP and Congress had to toe the line of coalition government which is a
conglomeration of many parties needed to form a government. Thus, the two major national parties are now
summoned as the NDA and UPA. While the UPA has formed the government for second term, the NDA has
assumed the role of opposition party.
There is a need of right alignment of forces and a polarization of the Right, Centre and Left. Our legislators
are by and large poor debaters. We have yet to grow politically, educationally and morally in order that a
healthy opposition as well as a healthy sense of governmental responsibility comes to us.
The most prominent question that may strike ones mind is- why does democracy demand the existence of
opposition? The role of the opposition is very vital for the democracy to function without any hiccups. An
opposition party always looks for an opportunity to replace the government and implement its own policies
and programmes. As a result, it serves two purposes.
One, the government of the day eschews being arbitrary in its actions and negligent of the interests of the
people in general. Second, the people of a democratic country are offered an alternative in the governance of
the country in their interests.
The opposition parties also give a platform to the common man to voice their opinion towards certain issues
and to work collectively to see those principles and policies are adopted and implemented by the
government. The opposition makes articulate the inarticulate desires of sections of the masses and gives
expression to their pent-up feelings. This goes a long way in checking violence and political crimes which
are, in reality, fatal for the healthy surviving of democracy.
Out of the innumerable problems which call for urgent introspection, the opposition is expected to select
those which are comparatively urgent, study them and present them to people and to the government.
Opposition should act as the broker of ideas. Through this the opposition can keep changing the
complexion of politics making it more dramatic and keeping the nation politically alive. It keeps the
government on its toes.

With the increasing importance of opposition in Indian politics it has assumed the same level of importance
like the judiciary, the Supreme Court. It has become an agent for safeguarding the constitution in case the
government does something to violate it wittingly or unwittingly.
In democracy, the modus-operandi of the opposition involves placing no-confidence motions against the
government. In India, submitting the memorandum to the President is also a common practice. All these
commensurate with the democratic norms and contribute to the consolidation and stabilization of democracy
in the social and political system.
Its a known fact that the opposition party has to extend support to certain measures as they cannot afford to
be considered as anti-people or anti- nation as they too have to face the wrath of the people. But the
opposition does not always have to oppose the government merely for the sake of opposition. This delays
even the progressive steps of the government and results in the waste of time, money and material. It also
misleads the masses.
Issues like Price Rise, Corruption, Unemployment and Heath problems should be taken up jointly by the
government as well as the party in opposition. Another example can be cited in reference to the Lokpal bill
that has instead of becoming a weapon to fight graft has become a bill to fulfill the vested interests of the
political parties. If DMK and NDA are in favour of the clauses in the bill then AIADMK is opposing it by
favouring UPA. Thus, the main motive of fighting graft has gone into oblivion. Similarly, the Women
Reservation bill met with the same fate and has not seen the light of the day till now.
Meanwhile every legislator and every political party should develop a sense of responsibility. Let the lesson
be driven home that opposition for oppositions sake is most emphatically not the proper role of the
opposition. Jumping from argument to action and subversive at that, does not befit the opposition.
Constructive criticism and not blind agitation is the proper role of the opposition in a parliamentary
democracy. Strikes, Bandhs, and similar disorderly demonstrations should not be resorted to at the slightest
provocation. It is the opposition that puts rein on the power of the government and checks it from becoming
absolute or else our democracy will turn into monocracy.
Let the opposition constantly bear in mind that, if not today but tomorrow they may be called upon to form
the government.
Event Management
Every time whenever you witness a gala award function, pop concert or a beauty pageant you must be
wondering how the massive pomp and show has been set up or who has executed it. Every minute detail
from your entry into the venue to your exit is a result of rigorous planning. Well that is what Event
Management is all about.
It must be quite assuming to note that whenever someone asks us what is event management we are
somewhat taken aback as it seems fairly self-explanatory. However later it appears that there are a great deal
of assumptions and false presumptions regarding the industry and what an event Management Company
actually does.
Over the last 10 to 15 years, there has been an enormous growth in the event management industry. Event
management is a way of outsourcing occasions that are either business, social or a combination of the two.

Events can be as diverse as weddings to political rallies. For any business meeting or social occasion an
event management team can be called in to organize it.
It has become one of the fastest and the most upcoming glamorous profession today as around USD 500
billion is being spent annually on planned events around the world. Event management has also become an
ideal platform to rub shoulders with who's who of the corporate world.
In the business arena, corporates often ask the question what is the point of having an event manager, if
they had a bad experience with an event manager who didnt understand their own role, or if they have
always used internal administrative personnel to run their events. Event management in the corporate world
is all about delivering an event with a full appreciation for the core aims, whether it is commercial, part of a
marketing plan or other.
Event Management is exactly what it sounds like; it is the effective, safe management of an event. An
event can be anything from a wedding to a party to a ball to an exhibition to a concert, a highly corporate
meet and so on. And management means the all encompassing holistic approach to the event from start
to finish.
There are a number of companies hosting and organizing events on a regular basis. These range from the
small time private events to the large-scale international events. The large scale ones do happen far rarer, but
then the returns they churn out are far beyond expectations. Many events in the past have ended in a debacle
for the hosts and sponsors for varied reasons. But then, all said and done, event management is about
organization and execution, and that is precisely where the money lies. Those in the field are paid
handsomely for these services.
Today, there a number of people, who have ventured into the field because they realize the potential of the
market where demand and supply is concerned. In fact, the most profitable aspect of this field is the need for
creativity. And that is where you earn more. If you want your event to be successful and look impressive to
potential clients, then event management is the way to go.
Events could be just anything ranging from concerts, product launches, conferences, promotions, press
conferences, jubilee celebrations and fashion shows. The range of events that an event management business
can supply is impressive. They can arrange events for a group of small people to large group of even 5000
people attending it. Most businesses rope in an event management team as they want their expertise in the
field to be second to none. Planning an event is time consuming, stressful and costly. Event management
teams have contacts within their field in order to obtain the best price quotes and the most reliable service.
Event management does mean lots of moolah, but it also demands lot of discipline and meticulous planning
to be in this profession. Planning an event is an event in itself. Your job begins with the very basics. The
client comes to the event manager with a vague idea in mind. It is entirely up to the event manager to work
on the idea and turn it into a reality. In fact a person organizing the event must be the master of all trades and
manager too.
To start with, the management of events calls largely for coordination. The first thing required is to get the
orders for the event. This process is also known as pitching for an event. Usually, whether it is for small time
events (weddings), or for the larger ones assigned by companies (exhibitions and trade fairs), or the
international concerts; the event manager or company is asked to submit a project report, with the moolah
involved in it.

On the basis of this the assignment is allotted to them. These are the pre requisites that a professional event
management team will have firsthand knowledge of. An event manager has to first design the basic
framework, after which he prepares the marketing plans, hunts for sponsors, works on the logistics, locates
the site, contact vendors, hires performers, prints/mails invitation cards, creates menus, looks after the
lighting, books the artistes, arranges for transport for different people, and on the D' Day co-ordinates, plans
and finalises every aspect of the event.
The work that event managers do is not a one day herculean task. They usually start working months before
the event. In order to simplify bulk work, large event management companies hire the services of smaller
companies on a contract basis.
Those of you who are eyeing a career in event management here is a brief snapshot. Scroll through the list of
strengths and abilities to gauge if you have the necessary skills. If you meet at least most of these criteria,

underestimating the seller. On the contrary it is a skill in business which, when
developed, makes you an astute businessman.

11.Good networking skills: An event manager needs to build up his own network and
the number of contacts he has the more successful he will be. Any kind of business can
be only expanded through contacts and you must therefore have the skill and aptitude
to go out and talk to people.

A person who enters into this field has to first join as a trainee. He then becomes the promotion coordinator.
Nowadays lots of young people are hired for this post. The nature of job is very basic which one can do on a
freelance basis also. The next job in this field is event co-ordination. The main job of an event coordinator is
to supervise the various stages of planning in event management.
Event management has become an excellent field to extra and once you start getting the feel of the field, it
will never be a problem. It is a very lucrative profession. Remuneration depends on the kind of events you
handle. If you prefer to deal with weddings and parties it may easily come around Rs. 50,000 or even more.
Event coordinators with a good deal of experience could earn even in seven figures.
Similarly if you are thinking to start an event management company your success in this business will
depend upon, not only on your experience and knowledge level but also on your contacts i.e. PR,
negotiating, marketing and entrepreneur skills. A flourishing business is one of the most impressive
incentives to a potential investor. Initially an event management team may cost you money, but it may also
make you money in the future. So if you think you have it within you then go ahead and take the plunge.

Negotiation
This is enormously off beam that negotiation just related to costing terms. When we write negotiation word
on educational website for students, surly we are not talking about those yelling sounds of our local sabzi
mandi that enters to our ears unwilling bhaiya thoda kam dam laga lo (please lower down the cost) or
just getting discount on shopping. Yes, you are also right that negotiation is a process to get what you want.
But your answer is not enough to get hundred out of hundred. There is big difference between bargain and
negotiation. When we talk about bargain, females are best player but when it comes to negotiation term, we
all are armature players. Hardly few of us know about what exactly negotiation means to our life.
Negotiation is a field of knowledge and endeavor that focuses on gaining the favor of people from
whom we want thing. It is the process of getting the best terms once the other side starts to act on their
interest. In reality people negotiate every day.
Willingly or unwillingly we do negotiation but still we dont know its ugly and beautiful face. Dont raise
your eyebrows, just sit and think about wider term of negotiation. When you start doing this exercise my
following engrave will start matching your thoughts. So lets try to touch the depth of its meaning.
Negotiation is the journey of how we get to the destination not the destination itself. This doesn't mean
losing sight of the destination but rather paying more attention to how we get there.
You and your friend have one apple to share. How would you divide it? Will you slice apple in half? Thats
the obvious solution but not necessarily the best one. May be you give full apple to him, or cut big portion
for yourself and rest give it to your friend. Theory of jiggling ideas and thoughts and pick one of them
according to your comfort is negotiation. Now, we reach at a point where we can say, studying the
negotiation process is to explore how people can achieve their goals in a variety of business and personal
situation. My thought of writing this article is just to make you aware that how you can find out right
solutions of your problems by improving your negotiation skills both at personal and professional level.
Many times it happens that students reroute their career path if they fail to pass in some entrance exam.
Touchwood! If your repeated attempts to MBA entrance exam does not bring any fruitful result than what
first thought comes to your mind? Sadly, but surly you would start thinking of other option of your career.
You don't get what you want by compromising or giving in. But you might want to play the game a little

differently. Imagine how much more effective you would be, and perhaps happier and more successful, if
you better understood how to improve your negotiation skills. Identify your own negotiation style that would
help you to improve, handle difficult situations when they arise and get the results you want. Timidity can
be a hindrance when negotiating. Obviously, the more timid you are, the less likely you are to be able to
stand up for your position, or negotiate with power.

Dont be needy: Remember, you want the deal, you dont need the deal. If necessary, be prepared to
walk away if the terms or conditions do not meet your expectations.

Assumptions lead to compromise based on fear, driven by emotions: Emotions bog you down,
cloud your ability to make clear decisions based on fact, and almost instantly give the advantage to
the other side.

The most important negotiating skill is listening: The truth is you dont really know the answer
unless you ask and then listen.

In business world, the ability to negotiate successfully in turbulent business climate can make the difference
between success and failure. Most negotiators enter a negotiation with the desire of achieving their set goals.
Affirmed negotiation goals are usually very well defined and measurable. Skilled business negotiators are
most likely innately persuasive. This does not mean you cant learn to be more persuasive, and thus, a
better negotiator.
Like us, business professionals use to do negotiate every day on topics ranging from work assignments,
project delivery dates and even business travel. "What's your best price? That's too expensive. Your
competitor is selling the same thing for." Most salesmen and business owners hear such statements every
day. That means it is important to learn how to negotiate more effectively. Many of us have never received
any formal negotiation training. Unless we are an attorney or a salesperson, the art and skill of negotiation is
an unknown or unperfected process to us. Remember, Negotiation is a skill that can always be enhanced.
Learn from what works, but also, pay attention to human psychology.
Life is a series of negotiations. As teenagers, we negotiated with our parents to borrow the books, dress etc.
Today, we negotiate with our employers for better benefits; we negotiate with our spouse for rights over the
remote control to the television and we negotiate when we buy a car. Negotiating is a way of life in some
cultures. And most people negotiate in some way almost every day. Apply these negotiation strategies and
you will notice a difference in your negotiation skills almost immediately. We are always negotiating.
Successful negotiating requires preparation. Be prepared with a strong understanding of your needs and
motivations, with the help of few guidelines why dont you build up your own steps of stairs to reach your
own goals? How is that fascinating idea that can polish your business skills? By understanding what makes
people tick; you can find a way to get them to see your point of view. Lets check out the negotiation skill
tacts of good salesman that would help to burnish your skills too as follows:

Learn to flinch: The flinch is one of the oldest negotiation tactics but one of the least used. A flinch
is a visible reaction to an offer or price. The objective of this negotiation tactic is to make the other
people feel uncomfortable about the offer they presented. Start your talks with easy-to-settle issues.

Recognize that people often ask for more than they expect to get. This means you need to resist
the temptation to automatically reduce your price or offer a discount.

The person with the most information usually does better: You need to learn as much about the
other person's situation. This is a particularly important negotiation tactic for sales people. It is also
important to learn as much about your competitors as possible. This will help you defeat possible
price objections and prevent someone from using your competitor as leverage.

Practice at every opportunity: Most people hesitate to negotiate because they lack the confidence.
Develop this confidence by negotiating more frequently. Ask for discounts from your suppliers. As a
consumer, develop the habit of asking for a price break when you buy from a retail store.

Maintain your walk away power: It is better to walk away from a sale rather than make too large a
concession or give a deep discount your product or service. After attending my workshops,
salespeople often tell that this negotiation strategy gives them the most leverage when dealing with
customers.

Negotiating is a process not an event. One conversation may not culminate in a final decision.

Show that you understand the other partys position.

Diffuse resistance in advance.

Avoid making people angrythey will retaliate by rejecting your argument.

Write down a list of arguments in favor of your position before the negotiation.

Present your favored viewpoint last because your audience will remember the end better than the
beginning.

People believe numbers and statistics that come from a reputable source.

Be accurate and provide backup details.

State your conclusion explicitly.

People will hesitate to argue with someone of higher status. So try to maintain it with your
presentation.

From the above points it is clear, often times in order to receive what we want, we first must negotiate for it
but we should always take care that it should not be a negotiation of our values. Negotiation is not about
taking advantage of someone else. Just the opposite, Effective negotiation creates a win-win situation.
Networking Management

When we utter Networking, surly your first thought would turn around some sort of information
technology concept or few of us may make weird facial expressions by saying , how that is related to me?
Better to leave it, with this remark we walk away. Hang on for a second! Before moving cursor just think for
a moment and reply a simple question. When your whole body is control by your brain then why you feel
pain in your hand only when somebody pinches to your hand? Have you ever think of that. This is what
called networking of your body. Word Networking is not only meant for IT world. Networking doesn't
have to be as hard as we think it might be. Little change in your approach and ideas will help you to be a
better networker than ever, whether you are promoting your business, looking for a job, or simply seeking
information on any topic. Before understanding the management of networking, you should know that if
content is the king, then conversation is queen. Social and Career networking involves the developing
and maintaining of contacts and personal connections with different people in your niche area who
might be advantageous to you and your career.
We all use networking concept in our daily life whether we are at home or living a students life or working
at a professional life. Networking is very important at every level. Now a days, it has become an
unavoidable term of our life. Out of IT world networking is a sort communication. We all do face to face

interaction with each other but now a days many networking sites like Myspace, friendster , Facebook,
classmate etc literally explode in popularity which boost up the area of communication . Now networking
actually about finding whom you know, who knows you, and what you do. We all make conglomeration of
people of our own sector to grow in our life. The ideal places for forming social groups are schools,
colleges, universities or offices. Networking can be form in face to face or through internet communication.
Lets talk about networking at different stages.

Students Networking: Its not what you know but whom you know that makes the difference.
Dont you agree with the above said words? In students life communication, interaction or we can
say networking with others is very important. It not only enhances their knowledge, also groom up
their personality. Students need to interact with more and more friends to exchange information
which helps them to explore their education information dais related to various topics and issues.
Sometime their networking also inspires each other for future aim by showing one another a right
career path. Networking or communication plays a very vital role in their life. It enables them to
exchange the latest information about their studies, colleges, entrance exams etc. They feel much
more motivated in network circle. Internet plays an important role in network communication where
students can interact with other students from around the world. Students can discuss all things
related to education and future employment. We can take a little example know more about
networking. B-school pass out students can guide their juniors for exams, about preparations, can
forward study tips or can council them to make their career more bright through networking. They
can share their experiences with students which can be quit inspiring and can motivate them to work
more hard. It is a closer looks at how Circles works. Within seconds, you can reconnect with past
contacts from many different world, and making even more new ones. You can explore more
employment opportunities through networking. When you meet people in your niche field, you
have the opportunity to discuss and learn from them and in turn they can learn from you. This
sharing of knowledge is one of the most important elements of networking, because learning from
seniors, who are now well placed, is priceless.

Business Networking: Business networking is a socioeconomic activity by which groups of likeminded business people recognize, create, or act upon business opportunities. A business network is
a type of social network whose reason for existing is business activity. All effective business
networking is the linking together through trust and relationship building, become walking, talking
advertisements for one another. Informal conversation is probably the oldest mechanism by which
opinions on products and brands were developed, expressed, and spread. In business world,
networking is meeting to people through other people. Business experts say that more business
decision come to mind over lunch and dinner with friends, than at any other time. In present time, to
develop a business, to maintain its profitability and for future growth of the business, networking is
utmost important. In an organization networking is very important to maintain a hierarchy. The
notion of a network implies nodes and links. The nodes can be people, teams or even organizations.
The links are the various coordination and "agreement" mechanisms. In a network, high degrees of
informal communications, both face-to-face and over electronic networks, achieve success where
formal authority and communications in hierarchical organizations often fail. Networking is not just
about getting a job, or selling a product or service. Its main purpose is to give or get useful
information. As such, it is one of the best tool available to us. It helps to a businessman to obtain and
retain his business clients.

Following are few Steps that can help you to enhance your business through networking:

Keep in mind that networking is about being genuine and authentic, building trust and
relationships, and seeing how you can help others.

Ask yourself what your goals are in participating in networking meetings so that you will pick
groups that will help you get what you are looking for.

Visit as many groups as possible that spark your interest.

Ask open-ended questions in networking conversations. This means questions that ask who, what,
where, when, and how as opposed to those that can be answered with a simple yes or no. This form
of questioning opens up the discussion and shows listeners that you are interested in them.

Become known as a powerful resource for others. When you are known as a strong resource,
people remember to revert to you for suggestions, ideas, names of other people, etc. This keeps you
visible to them.

Have a clear understanding of what you want do and why, for whom, and what makes youre
doing it special or different from others doing the same thing.

Remember that the basic element of networking is meeting people, and the more people we know in our
profession or career, the more we can improve on our growth.

Social Networking: Networking works best when we build relationships. It allows you to
categorize your friends or relatives into groups, so you can become choosy for certain information,
and who is left out of the loop. For instance, you can share your most intimate experiences with your
closest friends or family, but exclude your co-workers or acquaintances from the mix. Social
networking is use to share common interest like hobbies, religion, politics and even business. Again
social network sites on internet plays an important role in common mans life to build up a social
network. Right from making friends to discussing about wide variety of topics, social networking
sites are apt for every occasion. Social media is not a media .The key is to listen, engage and build
relationship. You can even create your own circle of friends and ignore members who do not share
anything in common with you. Social networking is required for over all development.

Social networking is not just to open an eye on social networking activity or just to open an account on any
website. It is very important how we can maintain and improve our social network.
Following are the main steps that would help you to take your networking on top:

Business cards: Business cards are an important element for networking, because it is how people
will get in contact with you. I suggest making your business cards a true representation of your
artistic ability and originality.

Keep in regular contact: Just holding business card is not enough to constitute networking. Once
contact is made, it is important to continue and keep the contact with the colleagues you meet
through networking. Networking is only effective if it is long-lasting and endures beyond the initial
contact by continuing to email, Twitter, call, or even ask for a lunch meeting with people you meet
through networking.

Be helpful: Another way to improve your networking skills, remember to be helpful to others you
have met through networking. We should follow the philosophy, You scratch my back, and I
scratch yours, meaning that when someone is helpful to me, I should always revert with the same
sentiment.

Take the incentive/Never feel inferior: Remember that when it comes to networking, you need to
take the incentive and not wait until people come to you. Never feel inferior to others, even if they
have more experience than you, have higher ranking blog, or are even a celebrity of such in your
niche field, because they are still human and approachable.

These days people are preoccupied with their busy work life that they do not have any time to spare for
themselves. However, they have resorted to platforms like social networking for staying in touch with their
dear ones, with professional links, with their friends. Networking is important to everybody but dont forget

its a matter of professional survival. Websites are generally used for this purpose. Trust me; the right usage
of networking will surly spark your overall development.
Networking is not about hunting. It is about farming. Its about cultivating relationships. Dont engage in
premature solicitation . Youll be a better networker if you remember that.
Management of Failure

Failure most hated word for everybody. Think about the word failure. What emotions does it stir up? For
many, the emotions are mostly negative, like guilt, disappointment, inadequacy. When we fail we often feel
incompetent, embarrassed and disheartened. We don't want to try again because of the risk. We worry about
our image. Even I think twice before write on it. What I am going to write? Who will read my article? Who
will understand it? I heard such voices from inside but soon I realize Failure is a key to success. There
are no failures; its just experiences and your reactions to them. We all make mistakes, we all have
failures. The greatest barrier to success is the fear of failure. But one should try to change his approach to
accept his mistakes or failure as feedback, and should try to learn from them.
I have learned and still learning a lot from my mistakes at personal and professional level. What about you?
Hardly few of us realize that there are no secrets to success; it is the result of preparation, hard work, and
learning from failure. Especially for juvenile the greatest barrier to success is the fear of failure. Many
students find themselves weighed down by expectations. Comparisons, Parental expectations and peer
pressure are major concerns for students who are preparing or about to attempt any entrance exam or
seeking bright career path. These concerns bog juvenile mind down and lead to severe career stress. In such
situation they commit more mistakes and sometime these mistakes can be bigger which can spoil a students
career forever. We didnt start out with negative feelings about failure. Toddlers learning to walk arent
weighed down with feeling of incompetence. When they fall repeatedly they stand up and try again and
again until they succeed and keep on walking without falling, it is also a motivational teaching for all of us.
Fear of failure must never be a reason not to try something. One should always try to bring in positive
out of negatives. Trial and error or we can called them mistakes, are usually the prime means of solving
lifes problems. However many people are afraid to undertake the trail because theyre too afraid of
experiencing the failure. They make the mistake of believing that all error is wrong and harmful, when most
of it is both helpful and necessary. Mistakes, errors and failure, all these synonyms provide the feedback that
points the way to success. Failure pushes people to put together a new and better trail. To meet with an error
is not to fail, but to take one more step on path to final success. No mistake, No error, no failure means no
taste of success either.
At professional level, too many organizations today have adopted cultures of perfection. A set of
organizations follow the rule that any failure is unacceptable which creates a pressure on employees. To
retain your reputation as an achiever, you must reach every goal and never, ever make any mistake. Imagine
the stress and terror in an organization like that. Dont adopt shortcuts to achieve your targets. Remember
for every failure, theres an alternative course of action. You just have to find it. When you come to a
roadblock, judge yourself when you have to take a detour. Remember that if you never experience a
failure, you are probably not trying to extend your boundaries enough.
How can you turn failure into a success?

DONT CALL THINGS FAILURES: Dont fail until give up and quit. It is what our brain
interprets as a directive. Things appear when we look for them. And we should only look for right
things by using the right language. How we talk to our self is very important.

ALWAYS HAVE A DEFINITE MAJOR PURPOSE: Your definite purpose is where you are
heading in life. It is definite, meaning it is non-negotiable. When anything is non-negotiable, it starts
to become as powerful as objects of survival. Just think about being hungry or thirsty you know
nothing will stop you from getting food. You have to have a compelling DEFINITE MAJOR

PURPOSE that you focus on daily. This way, when obstacles arise, it wont even come into your
consciousness that they will cause you to fail.

AFFIRMATIONS AND POSITIVE FOCUS: We know we have to think positive. But how? If bad
things are happening around us, negative thinking creeps in! Negative thoughts are the root of
failure, so you have to prevent this. Affirmations are one way to do this. I SUCCEED AT
EVERYTHING I UNDERTAKE, I HAVE ALL THE SKILLS AND CAPABILITY TO
ACCOMPLISH EVERYTHING I DESIRE, I WILL SURPASS ALL OBSTACLES Phrases such
as these are things that you should be hearing daily. These are positive thoughts. Here motivational
thoughts daily are another point about positive thinking. In simple words, Think Positive Always.

FOCUS ON PAST SUCCESSES, NOT FAILURES: Focusing on your past failure will increase
your odds of failing again. You have to look at yourself and believe yourself to be a person who
succeeds at everything you attempt. To do this, you need to always shift your focus on your
successes, and get rid of your failures. You can do this by anyway you want, just do it.

FOCUS ON THE SOLUTIONS: Forget the obstacle for a moment and think solutions. When you
look now at the situation, ignore the information that is telling you cant find a way this problem.
Even when you talk to experts and they say, nope, there is no way out of this one. Ignore them.
They dont have the same conviction and belief in your definite major purpose will power which you
have. They have their own worries. Stop focusing on how terrible the problem is and concentrate on
the solution. This is a fact: There is always a way out, always a solution.

Its actually not our failures, but how we think about them that give them the power to hold us back. When
we fail, we experience two types of consequencesinternal and external. External is what happenedjust
the facts. Internal is how we feel about ourselves from what happened.
Sometime you can expect to fail, it is a natural part of the steadily building methods, part of the best way we
mankind educate ourselves, and the only way we undoubtedly learn. Failure is solely doing a thing the
wrong manner. We may have 9 things right even so the 10th inappropriate leading to our method failing.
The successful spend only 10 per cent of their time thinking about their problems and 90 per cent
dwelling on solutions. Observe how others have dealt with similar failures, rather than ruminating about the
failure with fellow sufferers.
This way it is possible to beat the fear of failure.
Life's real failure is when you do not realize how close you were to success when you gave up.
Time Management

Science today is progressing with great leaps and bounds but astonishingly none of the inventions made so
far has been able to control time or say reverse time. Lost wealth may be replaced by industry, lost
knowledge by study, lost health by temperance or medicine, but lost time is gone forever. Even the almighty
cant rewind time.
Such is the power of time and the man who has learnt how to use it judiciously is a success in himself. He
does not need any accolades or awards to cherish his win as it is a lifetime achievement which no award can
measure up to. The key to utilize time is not spending it, but in investing it. Ordinary people think merely
of spending time. Great people think of using it.
God has given each one of us a bank called Time. Every morning, we are credited with 24 hours and every
night it writes off whatever time we are unable to use constructively and productively. It carries no credit or
overdraft. We all have a choice of how much importance and value we give to time. Therefore, we need to
manage our time well, and use every second of the 24 hours to our advantage.

I dont have the time. How often do your hear yourself say these words? If it is often then time
management is the answer for you. Managing the 24 hours of your day efficiently and balancing both work
and home is what time management is all about. Time Management is a process that must be planned,
monitored and regularly reviewed.
Time management is an essential skill that helps you keep your work under control, at the same time that it
helps you keep stress to a minimum. We would all love to have an extra couple of hours in every day. Seeing
as that is impossible, we need to work smarter on things that have the highest priority, and then creating a
schedule that reflects our work and personal priorities. Poor time management is often a symptom of over
confidence.
Time management is important for your personal life and career success and MBA aspirants or those
pursuing MBA must keep this mantra in life. You have to balance everything in your college life like
morning jogs, preparing for classes, studying, organization activities, spending time with friends and most
importantly sleeping.
With four semesters to cover, MBA students need to use their time efficiently as a little bit of lackadaisical
attitude will have disastrous effects on your results. Those appearing for CAT have only four months to
prepare and need to utilize every second while giving the exam. But for MAT only two months are left and
you need to pull up your socks.
Here are some of the few tips for the students to effectively manage your so little time and if reversed these
tips can turn into pitfalls. Have a look:

Set goals: Know what you want to achieve and make it your priority. This can be anything, whether
you want to achieve the goal in a day, a week, or a semester. Ask yourself what your academic goal
is. Making goals can make it easier for you to look straight ahead; instead of juggling subjects that
you think is easy, this could be very stressful and often results in not achieving your goal.

Prioritize: Once you are determined on the goals you want to achieve, you need to prioritize the
activities required by the goal. This will help you determine what particular task needs to be
accomplished first and what tasks can be set aside in the mean time. To achieve your priorities more
efficiently, try to mark deadlines in your calendar. Make a time management schedule to set priorities
straight and avoid being stressed out of trying to accomplish everything at once.

Create a simple "To Do" list: It is good to sit and plan your tasks of the day and the amount time
that you would like to devote to each task. Make a daily/weekly planner. Similarly a long term
planner in the form of monthly chart can be made so that you can plan ahead. It will also serve as a
reminder to constructively plan time for yourself.

Tackling interruptions: It is obvious as a student you will face many interruptions while doing your
task. But instead of getting fussy try to prioritize and minimize interruptions. Establish rules for your
time.

Make use of extra time: Instead of whiling away your extra time try to make use of it. For example,
instead of doing nothing in a class waiting for the professor, try to think of the last class assignment.
If you are going to write an essay, use the time to think of a good topic for it. This is a great way to
manage your time into manageable pieces and great time saver. At the end of each day, you will feel
stress free and ready to face the next day with equal enthusiasm.

Avoid excessive relaxation: This is applicable on sleep as well on relaxation. A sleep of six hours is
enough to charge up your fatigued body. Similarly, if relaxing for fifteen minutes is equivalent to
relaxation of one hour why to waste time. Killing time by sitting idle while anticipation to do

something constructive is the worst thing to do. Instead use this time to exercise and stretch your
body to get into rhythm of action.
If you are you a company manager, time management is one tool to success. Those who cannot manage their
time are also poor managers of their lives. In business, time management has morphed into everything from
methodologies such as Enterprise Resource Planning through consultant services such as Professional
Organizers.
Time management will allow you to eliminate wastage, be prepared for meetings, refuse excessive
workloads, monitor project progress, allocate resource (time) appropriate to a task's importance, ensure that
long term projects are not neglected, plan each day efficiently, plan each week effectively.
Similarly, it is important to give time management training to your employees. When your employees
manage their time wisely and efficiently you will see increase both in production and profits. Wasting time
lowers productivity, decreases profits, and fails a business.
Have your people trained in time management because most people dont know how to properly manage
their time. Give your employees the tools they need to find success for themselves and for your business.
Some of the strategies are:

Try to involve everyone: No one likes to be singled out. Even if there are only a few people wasting
time, make time management training mandatory for all employees. Understand that time
management in the workplace is everyones concern.

Invest a day in time management training: Unfortunately, very few wage earners would want to
work overtime for a time management workshop. True, we can argue that attending one is for their
benefit. However, most time wasters dont understand this. Some managers dont want to sacrifice
productivity for one-day training. But think of the time that they will learn to utilize time. Anyway
they are not working during office hours too.

Make time management training interesting: There are a lot of training materials that are
published for businesses that are just simply boring. They are dull and uninteresting and are
completely incapable of keeping the attention of people. Try to make it creative, interesting, and easy
to understand.

Thus, simply knowing the benefits of time management training will not bring you anything. Only action
will make your goals come true. Time management is the same with life management. Realization of life
comes with time management. Do not stray from it. Take care of the minutes and the hours will take care of
themselves.
Time is the most valuable and the most perishable of all possessions. Before managing anything else learn to
manage time and the world will be at your feet. Imagine a sportsman who crosses every hurdle to win a race
to emerge as a winner. He runs the race of his life in that very moment as every fraction of a second is like a
do-or-die situation for him. And similar should be the passion in every individual towards time.
The great dividing line between success and failure can be expressed in five words: I did not have
time.
Work Life Balance

There used to be a time when the domain of work and personal life were clearly distinct. But with
globalization becoming the norm of the day the chances of work encroaching into ones personal life and
vice versa has become alarming.

If you think one day you will be lucky enough to get everything set and then relax, you are bound to be
disappointed. Life will be always demanding and may not slow up any time soon. Learning to strike a
balance between work and life is an ongoing art. Despite the never ending quest for Work-Life Balance it
has been cropping in our mind what does it actually mean.
Worklife balance is a broad concept including proper prioritizing between "work" (career and
ambition) on the one hand and "life" (health, pleasure, leisure, family and spiritual development) on
the other. It is also related to "lifestyle balance" and "life balance".
Work-life balance
is a two-pronged approach. The other prong of work-life balance, which many individuals overlook, relates
to what individuals do for themselves.
Similarly, the right work-life balance is different for an MBA aspirant, a graduate, a corporate or a
women executive.
It also affects their professional stature when they
return to work.

1. Plan your agenda: Start your day by taking care of the little things you have to do at home. A little
planning is essential. Taking care of home needs in advance will help you to be less tensed during
working hours. Strike a work-life balance by evaluating your work-home relationships like listing
out the amount of time you are spending at work and home.
2. Organize: Everything in your business should be set up using logical systems so anyone needing
anything can find it when they need it.
3. Prioritize ruthlessly: The secret to booking your time effectively boils down to knowing what's
important and what can wait. Ask questions that help you determine the level of urgency.
4. Don't overbook: Things rarely go according to a prearranged agenda. Don't try to plan on doing too
many things. Assume that only 50% of the things you plan on doing today will actually get done. If
you don't, you'll just waste valuable time trying to find out why things didn't happen.
5. Be Productive: Switch on to the work mode when you are at work. Be sure that you shut off the part
of the brain that makes you worry about your home life. Remind yourself that it is work time and you
need to be most productive.
6. Learn to say no: One of the biggest land mines to effective time management is recognizing you
don't have to agree to everything and with everyone. Use your priority criteria to identify requests
that simply aren't worth your time.
7. Everything is not perfect: Time management isn't an exact science. Do what you can and enjoy
whatever time you spend more pleasantly or productively.
8. Focus on Home Life: While you are enjoying your home life, try to avoid intruding into work life
by checking emergency e-mails or answering work- related phone calls. The best way to focus on
home life will be crumbled to pieces if you intrude into your work life while at home.
If there is a tilt in the balance there are chances of soaring stress
levels.
Employability

There is a misleading perception that a student pursuing his graduation makes him employable by the time
he is out of college. Graduates come out of college, polished in academic skills but as they enter into the
arena of job hunt they tend to forget that corporate world is a different ball game altogether.
While academic skills definitely count, various other skills such as spoken and written English, interpersonal
skills, the art of communication, situational behavior, and so on play a pivotal role in helping the student or
candidate fit into the desired job profile. Lack of these skills may hamper the candidate's prospects at the
interview stage itself.
So a powerful program to impart these skills while the student is pursuing his MBA is the need of the hour.
Most companies want readymade stuff before a degree like an MBA, but 80-95 per cent of MBA students
are fresh B.A/B.Com/B.Sc graduates.
Enough has been said and written on employability skills or the absence of these skills among the Indian
youth. In a survey by NASSCOM, only 10 per cent of fresh graduates in India are employable. Similar
surveys on MBA graduates and engineers place employable professionals at not more than 25 per cent. It is
great to note that India has one of the worlds largest most qualified pools of technical manpower. However,
when we look at the employability, we are far behind.
Unemployability is today a grave issue than unemployment. Todays youth needs to learn communication
skills, business ethics and basic managerial skills to increase his chances of employability. When we talk
about Employability it refers to a person's personal capability of gaining initial employment,
maintaining employment, and obtaining new employment if required.
In simple terms, employability is confluence of several skills, abilities, knowledge, competencies and
capabilities that enable individuals to get employment and be successful in their professional careers.
And when we talk about employability skills it is a set of achievements, understandings and personal
attributes that make individuals more likely to gain employment and to be successful in their chosen
occupations. These skills can be referred to as transferable skills (because skills developed in one area of
your life can be transferred to other areas) or personal skills. In the context of your career planning and
development, they are called career management skills. Thus, employability-skills are as important as
academic-skills for college.
Currently there is wide chasm between what the educational institutions are churning out and what the
industry expects. All businesses cry for employability skills as these enable growth and competitiveness.
These skills are essential for all employers cutting across all industries.
Industry is badly in need for a different mix of skills, abilities, capabilities and competencies in potential
hires depending on the business its in. It also looks for multi-skilled individuals.
In this context, let us look the missing requirements which limit a freshers chances of landing a job or the
skills that employers expect from graduates:

Attitude: which involves sincerity, ownership and motivation

Business Ethics/Honesty

Grooming/Confidence: showcases your self-presentation on applications and at interviews

Communication Skills: involves written communication that is, able to express yourself clearly in
writing and verbal communication that expresses your ideas clearly and confidently in speech

General Awareness: shows that you are not restricted to your domain only and are curious about your
surroundings.

Basic Managerial Skills: like leadership, teamwork, time Management etc. which involves your
ability to convince others, to discuss and reach agreement, working confidently within a group and
able to motivate and direct others

Basic Sales and Customer Service: (most entry level jobs require one of these)

Domain Knowledge: in-depth information and abilities relating to a particular job

Work Experience: without this you are a bird without wings or will be considered invalid

Apart from this other factors that help to make people employable include:

The ability to identify suitable job opportunities; external factors such as the job market and personal
circumstances.

Flexibility in adapting successfully to changing situations and environments

Planning and organising activities and carry them through effectively.

Investigating, analyzing and problem solving like gathering information systematically to establish
facts and principles.

Numeracy to carry out arithmetic operations/understand data.

Computing skills

Developing professionalism

The question now arises is whether these employability skills can be taught or is it coachable? Attitude and
ethics are the most difficult to correct. It has been found that attitude can be improved through a six-nine
month process involving motivation, extended practice and constant feedback. Grooming and confidence for
personality development are the easiest to correct. Steady practice in small batches of 15-25 students, with
people of similar ability carefully chosen and teamed up for four-five months can bring about tremendous
improvement.
The situation is grave, but it can be addressed through a solution that empowers the youth. A curriculum that
covers written and spoken English, business communication, resume writing and interview skills,
pronunciation, etiquette, leadership skills and more, should be introduced making it a comprehensive
training on employable skills.
And this skill development must start early even while the student is pursuing his graduation. This can be
corrected by offering industry projects during the course (internship, externships etc). The long-term
solution may be for colleges to recruit experienced students, especially for a post graduate course like MBA.
To conclude, both educational institutions and industry should work together for enhancing employability
skills as it is rightly said that you need to clap with both hands to get the results of sustainable
transformation. Mere academic abilities alone wont suffice. By improving one skill, you may also improve
in a number of others.

APJ Abdul Kalam, Former President of India said, "It is not unemployment that is the major
problem; it is the question of unemployability that is the major crisis in this competitive arena"
Interview

Facing a job interview is never being an easy job whether you are appearing it for first time or second time.
At every interview you are meeting new people, selling yourself and your skills, and often getting the third
degree about what you know or don't know.
You are not selected or we will call you later or sorry you are not hired these are some words no job seeker
wants to hear them. Seeking a job can become a frustrating process if it faces rejection at interview.
Sometime it demoralizes the candidates confident.
A call for an Interview is the first step towards getting hired for a job. This means that: Your Resume has
created a favorable impression. Getting a interview call drag a job seekers attention towards his physical
presentation rather focusing on influential dos and donts which are very important for a candidate to
know before appearing for an interview.
Combination of perfect dress and a boastful introduction about your qualification will not intensify
your chances to get an offer letter. These things play as secondary factors for an interview.
What should I do to impress the interviewer to get a job letter at first attempt? So I would like to cheer job
seekers up with some job interview goof-ups which a candidate should avoid or should keep them in his
mind before appearing for an interview. To do the impossible, candidates should see and work on the
invisible side.

As we already said bragging about your academic pursuits will not help you to nail the job interview.
Keep your pitch simple and direct which means that your answers succinct, to the point, focused
and it should not be ramble. Dont make mistake of talking too little. If you simply nod your head,
the interviewer is likely to conclude that you have nothing to say or are not interested in the job.

Giving your qualifications isn't a recap of ancient history--the interviewer wants to know how your
education and experience apply to his company and the current opening. The interviewer's stock
question "Tell me about yourself" isn't a request for childhood memories or a rundown of academic
prizes won, but a call for a brief overview of what you bring to the table. Don't be bashful but don't
be boastful and again state what you can do for the company.

Your qualifications and work experience have been found to be appropriate for the job. The
employers are always interested in knowing how your skills, experience and expertise will add value
to the job in question. Dont oversell your skills that may cause you to struggle more on job floor, as
you are unable to cope up with the standard you have mentioned at the time of your interview. Your
answers should be built around their expectations.

Now is the time to present the best of your Body Mind and Soul that is Appearance. Body
language should be inculcated and practiced. Your facial expression, appearance, gestures, how
you walk, talk, stand, sit, etc. all form part of your body language. Try to be a professional not
personal and dont let business decorum disappear even if the interview is in a casual setting.

Remember: until you have an offer letter in hand, everything you do should build a favorable
impression as the best candidate for the job. Dont talk about money or other benefits until you
have offer letter in your hand. Sometime over confident candidates in their first meeting start
enquire about the companys policies, office timings, conveyance etc which leaves a very tardy
image of a candidate with the interviewer. It may end up your journey before it starts. Its better to
know about companys polices and work culture but timing of such queries should be at right.

There are few more significant basic tips which need to follow to make a blunder-proof interview that can
increase your chance to easily unlock your professional career box:

Read the job description carefully.

Proper homework should be done means prepare yourself for an interview by gathering as much as
information about the company where you are going to apply.

Do not forget to confirm the date and venue before you head for the interview.

Put together in advance a copy of your Resume/The Application Form and the original Interview
Letter along with all your Testimonials.

Dress up - No Jeans, Floaters or Funky Shirts. The tie for gents and accessories for the lady should
not be loud. Keep them understated.

Be On Time at interview venue.

Say calm when interviewer speaking but nod your head to show that your listening.

Do not get overexcited even while describing your achievements and strengths.

Listen to the queries attentively, constantly maintaining polite eye contact with the interviewers.

Follow up be sure to follow up with thank-you letters to everyone you met during the interview.

An interview is a strange conservation because its not conservation; its something thats between levels.
Its a staged conservation about prearranged topics between two people who have never met, which is a
sketch in itself.
Career

After going through the mandatory exercise of completing our education and acquiring those prestigious
degrees we all gear up to look for a new job or embark on a journey to build our respective careers. But the
fact remains that we are still a juvenile when it comes to making the right head start to our career.
As MBA aspirants prepare themselves to prosper in their respective fields marketing, finance and HR, they
should keep in mind that the world is round and one mistake can easily act as a ripple-effect amongst large
number of people. These include the prospective employers and placement agencies that can get you the job.
Every organization has its own defined work culture. If you want your career to flourish, ensure that you
follow the work etiquette and refrain from putting brakes on your ambitions resulting in professional
disasters.
Here are some of the habits and attitudes that are a strict no and needs to be put on check in any
organization:
1. Punctuality is appreciated: Reaching the office in time should be your foremost priority. If you
show a lackadaisical attitude towards your job it will reflect on your work. Timing is very essential.
My car got stuck in the traffic jam is an outdated excuse and mind it no one is going to buy it.
Punctuality should not only reflect in reaching the office in time but in your work also. Your
assignment should be finished before the deadline so that you are left with enough time to polish it.
Unlike your boards, a compartment even once does matter. If you disappoint your seniors, getting

another chance is pretty tough. If your office does not adhere to 9-5 schedule ensure that you come
on time and leave dot on time, ensuring your availability to others during the working hours.
2. Nothing comes easy: As soon as you grab a job stop jumping guns. Instant gratification may be your
buzzword but sorry its not going to work in office. You cant accumulate five years of experience at
one go nor you can draw those lucrative handsome salaries which is humanly impossible. You will
get money depending on your worth. Another grave mistake which many commit is mixing career
and money. Your priority initially should be to learn and not earn. Let money take a backseat. Once
you are firmly established on your feet, money will follow you.
3. Look outside your job profile: Dont commit the mistake of restricting yourself to your job profile,
which many people do. Doing this you will lose out the opportunities which will make your career.
Take up the tasks beyond your routine work that can showcase your untapped talents. This shows
your willingness to do something new. For those just starting out with their career you may get
saddled with jobs that others dont want or long working hours nobody else is willing to put in. If
you grumble at the workload you may risk the chances of impressing your superiors.
4. You cant alone make it a success: Your office is not a one-man show so remove this fallacy of
treating everyone as the employee of the company. In an office, you need to work as a team. If you
do well, dont hesitate to give credit to your juniors. Even if you dont get along with someone, be
polite. Theres no place for anger or tantrums at the workplace. Keep a check on your temper as your
electronic mails are being sent through your employers service. So, bad mouthing or back biting
about someone through mail or chats could lead to an embarrassing debacle.
5. Hone your networking skills: This is the most essential tool of any job. The more you develop your
networking skills more are the chances of your success. Your network of peers can come to your
rescue when you need them badly to give you the much needed advice. This will keep you updated
of the latest issues in your field. Stay in touch with college mates, mingle during conferences and
functions and join a professional networking site.
6. Knowing everything: The business landscape is changing constantly and nobody is perfect here.
You need to stay at par with your colleagues and others vying for your job. Dont bask in the glory of
your past accomplishments. Learn constantly, especially from your mistakes. If you want to be a
winner you need to take unceasing interest in learning new ideas and approaches in any stage of your
life. If your seniors or subordinates correct you, dont brood or complain. You will not only
exasperate your boss, but end up repeating your mistake which will prove ghastly in the longer run.
7. Believing that you are indispensable: Brainwash yourself that you are the only one left on this
earth to take up the job as there is no dearth of talent. There are many people who can do the same
job. Before you take up the plunge to get promoted ask yourself frankly whether you are really
prepared for it. A promotion not only brings professional changes but personal changes as well.
Dont overestimate yourself. Make sure you are ready to shoulder these responsibilities. Dont vouch
to get something done without being sure whether it is achievable.
8. Dont imitate anyone: Copycat role wont help you in the long run. Always maintain your
individuality and be original in your approach. Voice your opinions and ideas during meetings and
group gatherings with your team. This will ensure to set high standards for yourself and set you apart
from others.
9. Have a positive attitude: This is essential for anyone whether he is starting his career or looking for
a job. Without positive thoughts you will sulk in your very own job and the future prospects for
progress will seem bleak.

10. Do self - appraisal: Its not necessary that your boss or your seniors and subordinates will always
promote you. Self-appraisal should be your motto. Even you are not getting the much needed hype
put yourself in a regular assessment to know your strong areas and work upon the weak ones.
The word career is a divisive word that divides the normal life from business or professional life. Initially,
you may be successful in getting a dream job but you cannot vouch for its real longevity. Following these
basic behavioural patterns and habits will ensure long innings at any workplace.
The biggest mistake that you can make is to believe that you are working for somebody else. Job
security is gone. The driving force of a career must come from the individual. Remember, jobs are
owned by the company, you own your career!
