Karehana Park only 22 chances left to make your mark on the park!
Our major project for 2013-2015 is almost complete. Project manager Roger Johnston tells
us that 50 engraved pavers were needed to be sold to pay for the final section. From the
time of our mid-month newsletter 28 of those have sold already! That means the sale of
252 pavers have paid for the park development to date. When the final 22 have been sold
that will total 274.
This is absolutely your last chance to create a special family place for your children and
grandchildren to share memories. Email karehanapark@gmail.com to get your application

Plimmerton kindergartens Mid-winter dip spectacular success

A fantastic turn-out of athletes braved the brisk briny, which (we were assured by a nonparticipant) was a balmy 14 degrees. Fancy dress prizes for swimmers were awarded by
the mayor, our local MP joined the bathers in onesies, speedos and fantastic get-ups, and
kids were bedecked as every film and TV character. Ten minutes after the plunge some
hardy souls were still wallowing in the wavelets. We assume they were alive as the fire
brigade had left the water and were huddled around the back of the fire truck sipping hot
tea (so they said). Wonderful community event as ever, congratulations to the organisers,
all benefiting our local children.

Thursdays 9.30-10.30am and fortnightly, Tuesdays 6-6.30pm during term time. Toys,
games, puzzles, and outdoor toys for ages 6 months to five years. Membership and rental
fees apply. Come in and check it out!

We have always said that if you socialise, work, visit or just enjoy being in Plimmerton
then you are one of us. We welcome a lot of new members who have joined Plimmerton
Residents Association in recent weeks, many of whom live in the hillside areas of
Plimmerton! If you feel you have a stake here and can make a contribution to our
community good stuff. Email plimmertonra@gmail.com to be sure that you get
community information and to join the PRA. We have some specific Camborne projects
planned, including development of a community park area in Taupo Crescent, and we
welcome all hands to the pump.

Community planting along the rail corridor helpers thanks!

Conservation Volunteers and PCC say thanks everyone who helped with the rail side
planting which is designed to deter brainless tagging. The plants seem to be flourishing
and hopefully will sprout up and cover the wall. The vegetation is lizard and bird friendly.
Thanks to those who organised the event and to everyone who pitched in to help.

Canine Friends sharing friendly dogs with people in rest homes and
hospitals

If you have a friendly, gentle dog you think others would enjoy go to
www.caninefriends.org for an application form.

Canine Friends have just published a book, 25 years of pet therapy in New Zealand
which is just $20 and chock full of pictures of gorgeous pet therapy dogs and their
owners, some of whom you will recognise. Available from the web site.

You are invited to attend PRA meetings

Plimmerton School staffroom, last Monday evening of each month, 7.30pm.
Theres always a full agenda so if you want to present ideas or offer suggestions then
please let us know in advance so you can be allocated time. New (and old) faces welcome.
Next meeting Monday 27 July.

Culture vulture support

who are providing great mid-winter entertainment with their comedy play

The stunning work of local photographers can be seen online and at Palmers (till July 5),
Lighthouse Cinema (till July 19) and the Emerging Light Gallery (till 26 July).

Parking at Plimmerton domain for large vehicles

We are again asked to remind people with camper vans, buses and caravans to park these
large vehicles in the domain. We have 42 new car parks there and lots of room for your
oversized conveyances. We are being asked not to park these large vehicles in car parks
along the waterfront and streets as they block visibility for drivers and pedestrians
stepping out on to busy roads. Thanks!
