YOUTH LEADERS DEVELOPMENT

At the Rotary Club of Holy Spirit D3780 INTERACT IS
THE BEGINNING.
Soon after the Interact Club of Holy Spirit National
High School was formed in 2009, its officers and members immediately underwent training and immersion in
providing hands-on service through school projects and
those initiated by RC Holy Spirit. After graduating from
high school in 2010, the former Interactors organized
the Rotaract Club of Holy Spirit so that they could
continue providing service above self, a mind-set and
passion they had developed during Interact days.
Since then, the development chain for youth service
partners of Holy Spirit has been defined, from Interact
to Rotaract and hopefully soon, to Associate Member
and eventually active member of Rotary.

Even as they participate in youth trainings, fellowship

events and talent contests organized by the district and
by the club, the Interactors and Rotaractors of Holy
Spirit consistently demonstrate in the many community
service projects completed jointly with the Rotary club,
what they always do best: RENDER SERVICE ABOVE
SELF FOR THE COMMUNITY.
The Rotaractors and Interactors have participated in
this years major, high-visibility community service projects of RC Holy Spirit including anti-dengue awareness
& spraying campaigns, drug-abuse/HIV-AIDS prevention forum, anti-rabies dog vaccinations, blood-letting,
regular Oriental medical missions, large-scale annual
medical-dental-diagnostic missions with SM Foundation, local dental missions, gift-giving & feeding programs, disaster relief distribution, and national chess
tournaments to develop sportsmanship & enhance Rotary image.

D3780 are inextricably bound by passion for service.

This candid photograph was taken on Valentines Day, February 14, 2015. On that day,
nearly one hundred volunteer doctors, dentists, nurses, pharmacists, therapists, x-ray &
ECG technicians, aides, youth volunteers and security personnel who had been requested by RC Holy Spirit to join, shared their Valentine's Day with over 1,500 less fortunate members of the Barangay Holy Spirit community in Quezon City.
An annual project of RC Holy Spirit, its been a Rotary cooperative venture. The project
last February 2015 involved RC Camp Panopio D3780, RC Cubao West D3780 and RC
Marikina North D3800, with RC Holy Spirit D3780, Rotaract Club of Holy Spirit, and Interact Club of Holy Spirit National High School at the forefront.
The SM Foundation Inc. served as major sponsor.

of Rotaract Club of Holy Spirit and Interact Club of Holy
Spirit National High School held their joint Team-build,
Learning and Planning Session last 12-13 June 2015 in
San Refael, Bulacan.
The 42 youth leaders who are already inextricably bound
by commitment to Service Above Self, by common roots
in the Holy Spirit community, and by the pervasive influence of the Holy Spirit brand-name, all enjoyed this
unique, memorable Rotary opportunity for fun and leadership development provided by RC Holy Spirit, one of only
11 Rotary clubs in the district which have sponsored both
Interact and Rotary clubs.

One level up in youth service: RC Holy Spirit and Interactors of

Holy Spirit help in the organization of a new Interact club in D3780

As of June 2015, there are 34 active Interact clubs in District 3780. Soon, this
number will become 35 as a new Interact club comes on stream the Interact Club
of Judge Feliciano Belmonte Sr High School in Barangay Holy Spirit.
Earlier, PP Marcia Salvador introduced WCP Doris Sanchez of RC Bagong Sandigan to the school principal Mrs Zayda Padullo, who had been wanting to have an
Interact club organized in her school. Mrs Padullo was school principal when the
Interact Club of Holy Spirit National High School was organized in 2009 by RC Holy
Spirit. After that meeting, RC Bagong Sandigan started to help the school beginning with their Brigada Eskwela.

On June 19, 2015, PP Marcia conducted an orientation briefing for the new Interactors, numbering close to a hundred. She was assisted by veteran Holy Spirit Interactors (now Rotaractors) Rona Iglesia and Regina Madriaga who shared their
experiences in service-above-self projects, leadership training events, and fine fellowship activities.
The orientation briefing was attended by Mrs Padullo, by the Interact advisers of
the school, and by the sponsoring Rotarians headed by WCP Doris and her team
from RC Bagong Sandigan.

One level up in community service and international relations: TRF

approves $57,110 Global Grant Project submitted by RC Holy Spirit
D3780 and District 3710 Korea to upgrade human milk bank of Philippine Childrens Medical Center
Last 28 May 2015, RCHS received the following advise from
the Grants Officer of The Rotary Foundation:
Congratulations! Your global grant application for funding to
provide new pasteurizer to Philippine Children's Medical
Center in Quezon City, Philippines, submitted by RC Holy
Spirit/District 3780 and District 3710, has been approved by
The Rotary Foundation. The award is in the amount of
US$57,110.
The process prior to TRF approval took nearly a year. Officers of RC Holy Spirit first met with officials of the Human
Milk Bank of the Philippine Childrens Medical Center
(PCMC) last 6 June 2014 to understand their needs. The
need for a modern pasteurizer funded by a Global Grant was
then discussed by President Dr Bong with the District Governor of D3780 Korea when Dr Bong headed a team for the
signing of the clubs sisterhood agreement with RC Sae
Gwangju D3710. The outgoing DG of D3710 then signified
support for the proposed Global Grant project. Click to read
THE DOVE of 24 June 2014.

PP Ped Condeno, Ric Salvador and Percy Zabala first met with Director-Emeritus
Dr Gloria Baens Ramirez and the medical staff of PCMC Milk Bank last 6 June
2014.

It was only in early 2015 that the new DG of D3710 confirmed agreement to be the primary international sponsor for
the humanitarian project.
RC Holy Spirit now stands as the second club in D3780, after RC Timog QC, that has obtained TRF approval for a
Global Grant funded project in the Philippines.
And as PP Ped sees it, this global grant project elevates the
capability of RC Holy Spirit to render Service Above Self one
level higher.

Club leaders BCP Marites Nepomuceno, PP Ped Condeno, IPP Dr Bong, PE Angel
Castro and Chair Ric Salvador discuss the final draft of various documents required by TRF in the application for global grant last 26 March 2015.

After 100 days of milk feeding, nutritional status of 50 severely

wasted pupils have improved dramatically
On October 13, 2014, RC Holy Spirit rolled out this years
100-day feeding program for fifty (50) malnourished
Grade I pupils of its adopted elementary school, Dona
Juana Elementary School in Barangay Holy Spirit. The
Nutritional Status of forty-nine (49) of the pupils were assessed as severely wasted while the other one was
wasted.
By March 6, 2015 the program, which involved daily feeding of fresh carabaos milk and bread, has produced remarkable results. The assessments have been performed
by the teacher-in-charge after measurement of improvements in weight and height of the 50 pupils.
Implementation of the milk feeding program has been
made possible through financial donations of club members, their family and friends, and generous support of
the United Korea Community Association (UKCA) QC
through its President, Mr Kim Tae Cher. Including commemorative events like special meals and gift-giving during birthdays celebrated with the kids, total investment in
the program would be nearly P100,000.

Rotary, barangay council and subdivision homeowners association work together to stem rising number of dengue cases in the
community

Two hot spots in Barangay Holy Spirit were identified by

Kagawad Lydia Ballesteros, Health & Sanitation Committee Chair of the barangay. Three persons, including
a 4-year old boy fell victims to the dreaded dengue fever one after the other. The boy is still confined at the
East Avenue Medical Center.
Kgd Lydia approached RCHS for emergency assistance on July 11, 2014. Immediately the following day,
the club responded by providing organic insecticide
which was used by barangay personnel in spraying two
densely-populated puroks with approximately 100
families of informal settlers. The solution, donated by

PP Chin Chin Jurado, uses biodegradable extract from

the leaves of the Neem tree and other natural plant derivatives and is effective as disinfectant, deodorizer and
repellent. As the team went around, PP Marcia and Kgd
Lydia reminded residents to keep their surroundings
always clean and remove stagnant water as preventive
measures against diseases.
PP Marcia Salvador coordinated with Kgd Lydia as well
as with the security and maintenance personnel of the
Don Antonio Heights Homeowners Association during
the spraying activity. Ric Salvador was also present.

Barangay Kagawad Lydia Bellesteros, local purok officials, Holy Spirit PP Marcia Salvador and the barangay crew are flanked by utility
men and security guards of the Don Antonio Heights Homeowners Association. PP Marcia is also an officer of DAHHA.
