1.1 THE E-VAN OFFERING BACKGROUND

Of the 25 Years that TMI has been in the business of connecting Employers
with Talent, our stakeholders were only those who had the capacity to pay for
our services. With the transformation of India into a services economy, and
the explosion of urban migration, we realised that most of the employment
opportunities are in the big town and cities. We also realised that every city
is full of numerous small traders, cottage manufacturers and varied business
outlets that are capable of hiring local talent in small numbers. Such outlets
are not as choosy as the big employers and also provide ultra-local
employment.
We also realised that the traditional agency model of sourcing is majorly
limited to prospective job seekers who have access to the internet. These
includes candidates who are registered on the major job portals, or/and can
be accessed through emails. However, there seemed to exist a very large
number of less privileged, non-smart phone carrying population of job
seekers from not so affluent families. We believe that both these sections
need to be serviced so that we are a step closer to realising our vision of
transforming talent to impact lives.

The E-Van offering is way of extending our services to those who were
hitherto un-serviced. The following sections articulates the problems faced
by SMEs.

1.2 UNEMPLOYMENT SCENARIO

Unemployment occurs when a person who is actively searching for employment is
unable to find work. The unemployment rate is calculated as a percentage by
dividing the number of unemployed individuals by all individuals currently in
the labour force.

As per a study, the country's overall unemployment rate was estimated to be 4.9
per cent in 2013-14.
To combat the situation of unemployment it is important to create a mechanism to
connect the job seekers to the job providers at the ultra-local level. A mechanism
that will be provided free of cost to major stakeholders and is transparent and
proactive, will be the best possible solution.
E-Van is one such initiative. The E-Van team helps identify prospective job providers
within the micro and small industries and also other potential employers willing to
employ talents.
To further the initiative, steps are taken for pan India roll out of Employability Vans
(e-Van), Employability Zones (EZs) and Employability Kiosks (e-Kiosks) to connect
these job providers to the job seekers. The various field level formats through which
