Definition;
An adverb is a word that modifies a verb, an adjective, or another
adverb by making its meaning more specific.
An adverb is a word gives more or additional information to a verb,
an adjective, or another adverb

POSITION OF ADVERBS
You may place an adverb that modifies a verb in different positions in
relation to the verb.

They should not be used with not or other negatives
For example;

In formal, written English, esp. in literary style, negative adverbials
can be placed at the beginning of the sentence and then the subject and
verb are turned around.
Hence, inversion is mainly used when the sentence begins with a
negative word.

When a sentence begins with a negative adverbials like never,
scarcely, hardly, barely, rarely & seldom, the auxiliary verb comes
before the subject..+ when
For example;
scarcely
hardly
rarely
seldom
never had I reached the bus terminal when the bus arrived.
Note: these time expressions are normally used with a perfect verb
form or modal auxiliary verbs. However, comparative form are also
common.

It can be used the same as scarcely, hardly, barely, rarely & seldom
For example;
No sooner had I closed my eyes than the doorbell rang.
No sooner had I arrived than trouble started.
Note: sooner is a comparative form of soon
