The Little Angel - Cartoon Production

This animated classic tells about an independent little angel, Michaela, who

Knowing About Asthma
Asthma is a common disease and is found all over the world including our country. In Malaysia,
about 10-13% of the population is affected. This means almost three-and-a-quarter million Malaysians are
suffering from asthma.
This disease affects both children and adults, although it could be more prevalent amongst children.
It is estimated that 1 in 10 children suffers from asthma with effects bad enough to reduce the quality of
their lives. These include missing school, avoiding sports activities and experiencing sleep disturbances.
One of the biggest problems with handling asthmatic patients is clearing the taboos in caring for
the patients. Many caregivers are uncertain about the correct diet for the asthmatic child. They are also
not sure about what activities the child can carry out and hence, bar them from most physical activities.
The medications used in asthma care are controller medications and reliever medications. However,
many parents are not keen on using too much steroids as these can give rise to side effects that include
weight gain, high blood pressure and thinning bones. Nevertheless, doctors are now advocating the use of
inhaled steroids which do not get into the bloodstream to cause the side effects of steroids that are taken
orally.

Successful Chilli Farmers

Kelantan food is better known to be sweet rather than spicy. It then comes as a surprise to know
that smallholding farmers in Kelantan produce high quality red chillies in abundance.
The farmers of Bukit Awang grow red chillies that are good enough to be supplied in bulk to food
giant, Nestle, to be processed into their famous chilli sauce. Nestle believes in giving back to society and
hence, prefers to get their supply from farmers and not from large companies.

The chillies must meet stringent requirements. The criteria we look for are taste, colour and
texture, said Nestles manager of agricultural services. The company helps local farmers use new
technologies and better farm management practices to maintain consistent supply and quality.
The success of the chilli cultivation project is a joint venture project among a few consortiums Nestle, the Bukit Awang Farmers Association, farmers in Gong Kulim and the Kelantan Department of
Agriculture. The venture started 10 years ago and today, 500 metric tonnes of chillies are produced
annually.
Nevertheless, the farmers do sometimes face problems. Unknown diseases and extreme weather
are two of these problems. Diseases can wipe out whole crops while drought and flood can destroy eight
months hard work.
