Eighteenth Senate Minutes

16 January 2009
1:30 PM, Firstenburg Conference Room

1. Call to Order. Meeting was called to order 1:34 pm by Senator Pro Tem Emily
Brown.
2. Roll Call. Senator Harman and V.P. Wooster were not present. (Harman arrived
at the meeting at 1:36 pm)
3. Additions or corrections to agenda. Added Melissa Boles, Elections Board, to
agenda line item 10. Seconded by Senator Chu.
4. Approved Agenda. The agenda was approved.
5. Approve Minutes. Minutes were approved.
Reports.
6. Executives:
a. President Announcements – Peter has worked on the electronic signs, a
meeting with Dave, the Rec. Center project is on hold. Jackie Cruz is the
new event assistant, Executive staff training, all-student government
meeting, and has done lots of work with the SGC, the Bookie Board
applications will be out at the end of the month, Regents are coming the
29th and 30th of January, Chancellor’s Advisory Meetings with Hal about
the Economic situation, and he has a meeting next week with the CSAB.
b. Vice-President Announcements – V.P. Wooster read all Senate meeting
minutes and reports, prepared senate pay, attended the rec. center meeting,
the electronic sign meeting and planned the SGC Meeting. She also
attended the SGC Vancouver meeting, planned the All Student
Government Meeting, Distributed Rec. Center Prizes, worked on the VP
passdown binder and entered her entire schedule into outlook for her
absence.
c. Executive Staff –
i. Activities Director: Eric has done general office duties, prepared
finals gift bags, produced AB applications, did a lot of planning for
the Spring semester, event assistant training, budget review, supply
purchasing, and Entertainer/performer research.
ii. Public Relations:
iii. IT: N/A
iv. Legislative Affairs:
v. Director of Clubs: Blake worked on a club fair for Tuesday,
January 27, 2009 from 12-2. He is working on forums focused on
fund-raising, motivation, and professionalism. He is working on
Portal stuff, orientations, and brainstorming for a new position.
7. Committees Announcement:
i. External affairs – Senator Harman reported that they met 1/14/09
and talked about a new direction for the club.
1. *Senator Harman was excused from the meeting at 2:07
pm.
ii. Programming – Senator Meyers reported that they have not met
this semester, but have been in contact with Dave Stevenson
iii. Finance – Met last semester and reported $4,322.99 for each
meeting left.
iv. Rules and Regulations – met today and went over a few new ideas
for the next semester including senate committee meeting
absences, new Robert’s Rule of Order book, and secret voting
ideas for the upcoming semester.
v. Budget- has not met yet but will be doing so in the next 2 weeks.
8. Old Business.
9. New Business.
a. Bill 18.018. Moved to second reading by Senator Atkinson, seconded by
senator Sanders.
b. What is a pipe and drape?
c. How will artists be funded/contacted?
i. Sara, “the purpose is to create funding for the galleries on campus.
Hope to be a yearly event.”
d. Called to Question by Senator Chu. Seconded by Senator Sanders.
e. Bill passed.
10. Event Assistant Confirmation
a. Questions: How do you see expanding this position?
i. Gaining more leadership, communication among activities groups,
and helping other positions.
b. Call to Question by Senator Kleinschmidt. Seconded by Senator Morgan.
c. Cruz confirmed by the Senate.
d. Cruz formally resigned from the senate.
11. Announcements.
a. Melissa Boles- Elections Board
i. And elections forum to be held, Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at
1:00pm in the Student Commons.
ii. Asking for all Senators to attend a Question and Answer portion.
iii. Flyers are up around campus.
b. Recognition
i. Senator Sanders recognized Aday on taking the minutes.
ii. Atkinson recognized Cruz on new position.
iii. Chu recognized Sommer Knight on all her hard work.
iv. Meyers recognized Brown for a well chaired meeting.
c. For the Good of the Order
i. Michelle announced Koug Radio will be on the air in a few days
and is creating a come back.
1. Also met with the VanCougar and their aim this semester is
student life.
12. Adjourned. The meeting was adjourned at 2:34 pm by Senator Pro Tem Emily
Brown.
