Highest Expression of Love

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should
not perish but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
What makes most is love. Love is the most important part of our lives. Because God is love, the most
important lesson He wants us to learn is how to love.
I. The Giver of Love God The God of the Bible, the God who made the world, the God whom we
came, the God whom we go as our Judge, the God of Israel, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
It is not any other God. The Christian God. God the Father.

II. The Act of Love A. Loved


Different forms of love in Greek words or language:
1. Epithumia First; lowest kind of love; plain promiscuity; purely fleshly love we have to avoid
2. Eros Love of attraction; special love; primarily a love of the heart; mutual attraction between male
and female; most common form; involves __ love; you fall into it or fall out of it.
3. Philia We get words like Philadelphia; love of brothers; love of affection; more of love of the
mind; finding interest in common; like
4. Agape Love of action; centered in the will; nearest word is care; To care means two things: your
attention and your action
To act in agape love is to respond to someone elses need, pay attention to that need and do something

Since agape s centered in the will, it can be commanded.
In I Corinthians chapter 13, the word love means agape, love is kind...suffers long. Christian marriage
is centered in agape.
The word loved is John 3:16 is not primarily Gods attraction to us, nor Gods affection for us, but
Gods attention to our need, and His actions on our behalf God so agaped.
B. Gave giving His son in death
But God demonstrated His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

III. The Recipient of Love World; Human race, human society; not a geographical word which refers
to our planet, our globe, but a human word.

Word connotes a bad image; it is a sinful world; it is a fallen world, a rebellious world.
IV. The Love Given Only begotten Son; one and only Son; Jesus Christ the eternal Son of God

VI. Requirements of Love Believe; trust; faith
Believes in us, believes that, believing that Christ died for our sins is not saving faith. Believing in the
Christ who died for your sins is saving faith.
VII. The Results (Effects) of Love Not perish; destroy; ruin; disintegration; death; separation
Everlasting life fulfilling, satisfying quantity and quality kind of life; opposite of death
VIII. Application of Love The best way to spell love is T-I-M-E
Whenever you give your time, you are making a sacrifice. Sacrifice is the essence of love.
Be full of love for others, following the example of Christ who loved you and gave Himself to God as a
sacrifice to take away your sins.

Love means giving up yielding my preferences, comforts, goals, security, money, energy or time for
the benefit of someone else.
You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving.
